The US Commercial Service provides an excellent and free-for-use International Market Research search tool for 18 global industries. Global market research reports, country commercial guides, and best market reports can be accessed via search by industry, sector, region, country, keyword, or type of report. Older archived records can also be retrieved. The site offers search tips for finding market reports, as well as e-alerts.

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) publishes yearly reports on Canadians' research dollars at work. In addition to reporting on specific health care 'research successes' and developments, the site links to regional profiles (Atlantic Canada, Quebec, Ontario, The Prairies, and British Columbia). The 2006-2007 editions are now up.\n\nCIHR's 2-page Commercialization report (PDF) for 2006-2007 reveals Canada's Innovation Index for the year as well as the country's shift towards investing in new companies and capacities. CIHR's commercialization strategy includes research, talent, capital, and linkages.

The Small Business and Tourism Branch has produced, in collaboration with professors Eileen Fischer (York University) and Rebecca Reuber (University of Toronto), a report that provides a portrait of the state of entrepreneurship in Canada. It charts entrepreneurial activity in Canada over time and compares it with leading countries. Entrepreneurial performance indicators observed include: birth and death rates, survival rates, high-growth firms and gazelles, and research and development expenditures. Furthermore, the report provides a profile of the owners of Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) because important entrepreneurial activity takes place within these firms. Finally, the report identifies areas of strength, areas for improvement, and important areas that cannot currently be addressed.

According to an Angus Reid public opinion poll, Calgary is reported to have the best quality of life out of Canada's four largest cities. Acording to Jane Switzer, a report from The Globe and Mail, the "Angus Reid poll was commissioned for CityAge Media's The Innovation City summit." The summit will take place at the MaRS Centre, July 18 and 19th and will explore the new ideas, technologies and partnerships that will build the 21st century city, and why - and how - Metro Toronto and Canada will be a leader in this urban century.

Adam Radwanski, Tim Kiladze and Tara Perkins, reports of the Globe and Mail state "Don Drummond's report caused a stir with its cost cuts and gloomy forecasts. But one positive result was that it spurred a serious examination of how to reinvent the economy." Ilse Treurnict, CEO, MaRS Discovery District,  states that the "health care sector is growing."

"Dr. Cavoukian, Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario, Canada and IBM Chief Scientist and Fellow Jonas Release a report on how organizations should act now to address the privacy risks associated with Big Data, and the analytics technologies used to make sense of these vast data sets, before such risks become realities." The report was shared at the Future of Energy Summit that was held at the MaRS Centre.

Science journalism is in decline. Science reporting is being left to general assignment reporters, who may lack the expertise to present science in an informative and engaging fashion. The Science Media Centre of Canada is a proposed remedy and will host their launch event at the MaRS Centre on April 20th with Jay Ingram, co-host of Discovery Channel's Daily Planet.

MaRS CEO, Ilse Treurnicht, and Board Member, John Manley, are both interviewed for the Action Canada report. This report recommends a national strategy for "owning the podium" in entrepreneurship.

Tara Perkins, Globe and Mail reporter states "The Canadian Task Force on Social Finance says there is evidence that impact investing is growing as an asset class in this country.... more effort is require to make progress though." Ilse Treurnicht, the CEO of MaRS Discovery District is a member of the Task Force.

According to Tech Media Reports, "Sara Diamond, president of the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) says we should get on with the job of making this industry a veritable economic powerhouse. The future lies in "digital" pursuits." Mention of Net Change Week.
