Although geared toward k-12, this has some good advice for teachers such as not co-opting the social media most used for personal connections and fun (FB), no app is going to do everything, sharing ones passion and exploration with students is a good thing, and bringing in social learning is key - let the students explore and help each other. The technology and apps should support them to do this, not drive the content.

IFTTT- does simultaneous updating of all accounts; so? 2. Sunrise calendar--free app that combines google calendar with linkedin, Facebook, and other profile calendars to provide a comprehensive view of your day? 3. Google+ Hangtous and Doodle--yes, these are good. 4. Prezi (customizable templates) and Keepvid (for downloading videos beforehand and showing as desired)--yes, okay 5. Easel.ly--infographic templates--yes, okay 6. Evernote--yes to project file develoment and organization 7. LastPass--not as keen as I once was with this app 8. Pocket--saving media for later reading--Diigo goes same thing

Excerpt: "Facebook app made a huge difference for their mobilization efforts. The app allowed the campaign to ask supporters to contact specific people on their friend list based on geography via Facebook. Toby and Marie estimated that millions of additional people were reached this way that weren't reachable via any other channel. Best performing appeals often had the highest unsubscribe rates. Turns out, evoking passion in supporters worked both ways, but ultimately the campaign decided the positive fundraising results were worth the increased unsubscribes. Even when considering retention, the conversion stats outweighed the downside of losing people."

I dived headfirst into the tech world, got a smartphone and started downloading apps on every topic that interested me: health and wellness, fitness, recipes, news and, yes, shopping. Soon Justin and I were exchanging emails about apps, articles and websites. It felt great; my son-buddy was coming back into the fold. There was a lot I didn't understand, but I embraced the "fake it until you make it" approach. Before long he was sending me links he thought would appeal to me. Some I really liked, but others were hard to comprehend. They offered products and services that boomers would supposedly appreciate - but I couldn't figure out how to navigate the site, or I didn't understand what was so "amazing" about the "revolutionary" product."

Attempt to interest girls in tech careers by Silicon Valley. Interesting in that this is a business decision, not just an altruistic one. Women are not a big factor in the app design field, and it is felt they would design different apps than are currently being produced.

Very interesting article from the NYTimes on how mindfulness has taken hold in Silicon Valley encouraging tech workers and beyond to take time out, meditate even for a minute, and creating new apps to help you do it. Google has a course on mindfulness that sells out whenever offered. Rebranding mindfulness from groovey discipline to way to clear your head to increase productivity, prioritize to do lists, unclutter your work life.

I like this one too for examples.
