This is an event organized by Learning by Design in Massachusetts, AK-12 architecture and design education program. The event is called Kids Build and the students are expected to build the whole city from ground to up. They engage family members and kids together to have them understand the importance of design. It is all realistic because they have to get building permit, get inspected, in short all the processes to build a structure. They are provided with materials and they are urged to get ideas from each other. You should see this video! :)

Kurt Browning is the one of the best skaters in the world. He has 3 times World Champion title!! Besides all of that you will see how he skates and how he is in the flow when he is skating. This is not s competition. This is a show program but you can see him enjoying while he is skating and forget about everything while doing every moves:) enjoy!!

Coursera is one of the best platforms for computer supported collaborative learning. There are numerous classes from the top universities in the world, and the expansion of these classes are run through discussions in class forums. Lots of people get together to create projects and share them with their peers.

Although online courses has some disadvantages, that platform is beyond online courses I think because it allow followers interaction instead of just slides or videos. Also I do not remember the exact details but when that platform was founded, the demand for one course was over the expected and the system was broken. Then, the same lesson began to be given as formal education and at all users who completed the course with 100 points are the ones who take the course online.

Coursera was suggested me to improve my academic speaking skills by my adviser so I have a coursera account :) There are presentations, online courses, online exams and homework etc. Also, you can get a certificate that is valid international after completing the course successfully. Unfortunately, I did not benefit from it because the price of the course was too high, therefore I gave up the course.

This is the website for The International Baccalaureate (IB) program that I mentioned in the class. It is a recognized leader in the field of international education, encouraging students to be active learners, well-rounded individuals and engaged world citizens. The organization offers to schools three programmes: the Diploma Programme, the Middle Years Programme and the Primary Years Programme. It is applied in some of the private colleges such as Eyuboğlu Schools that I have worked in, İstek Schools and Enka Schools from Istanbul.

Lee S. Shulman is an educational psychologist having notable contributions to the study of teaching, assessment of teaching, learning, science and mathematics. He is a retired professor from Stanford Graduate School of Education, past president of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, past president of the American Educational Research Association. Shulman is best known for popularizing the phrase "pedagogical content knowledge" (PCK). Shulman claimed that the emphases on teachers' subject knowledge and pedagogy were being treated as mutually exclusive. He thought that teacher education programs should combine these knowledge fields.

Punya Mishra is a professor of educational technology and director of the Master of Arts in Educational Technology program. He is nationally and internationally recognized for his work on the theoretical, cognitive and social aspects related to the design and use of computer-based learning environments. He has worked extensively in the area of technology integration in teacher education which led to the development (in collaboration with M. J. Koehler) of the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, which has been described as "the most significant advancement in the area of technology integration in the past 25 years." He has received over $4 million in grants, published over 45 articles and book chapters and edited two books. Dr. Mishra is an award-winning instructor who teaches courses at both the masters and doctoral levels in the areas of educational technology, design and creativity. He is a gifted, creative and engaging public speaker, having made multiple keynote and invited presentations for associations and conferences nationally and internationally.
My dream is to work with him and Ann Thompson and also taking TPACK badge.:)

David Perkins has conducted long-term programs of research and development in the areas of teaching and learning for understanding, creativity, problem-solving and reasoning in the arts, sciences, and everyday life. He has also studied the role of educational technologies in teaching and learning and has designed learning structures and strategies in organizations to facilitate personal and organizational understanding and intelligence. His inquiries reflect a conception of mind that emphasizes the interlocking relationships among thinking, learning, and understanding. The three depend deeply on one another. Meaningful learning aims at understanding and depends on thinking with and about what one is learning. Effective thinking in the subject matters and in general involves understanding the resources of the mind and learning to deploy them sensitively and systematically

Here I share a report on informal science learning. The report synthesizes research on science learning across three primary venues--everyday/family life, designed experiences in informal institutions, and out-of-school programs. The evidence presented suggests that learners' informal experiences with science, from museum visits to television shows to observations in nature, contribute strongly scientific knowledge and engagement. I agree with the fact that such informal experiences boost learning, especially science and additionally language learning.

Zoos can be interesting and valuable places to have stiuated learning experiences. I have seen situated learning videos of Australia zoo which has programs like being a zookeper for a day or adapting an animal.

That is such a great idea, it is like totally experiencing but I couldn't reach the website :( :( Maybe restaurants, cafes, museums can be some other locations to be used with students.

the page briefly and clearly defines what situated learning is, and shows how to create authentic learning contexts by using digital media. There are very short videos showing situated learning genres and some handouts which can be helpful in the class.

While I was reading about interactive case scenarios, I remembered some of my friends playing a game on the Internet called "fantasy role play". I am sure most of us have already heard about it because it is very popular among METU students. Actually the major aim of the game is to have some fun, but it can also be organized as a learning tool.

This is the article which defines critical characteristics of situated learning enviroment. The authors used a lot of literature in the analysis part of the study. The purpose of this study was firstly, to identify critical characteristics of a situated learning environment from the extensive literature base on the subject; secondly, to operationalise the critical characteristics of a situated learning environment by designing a multimedia program which incorporated the identified characteristics; and thirdly, to investigate students' perceptions of their experiences using an multimedia package based on a situated learning framework. I think it will helpful us while we are searching for more articles on situated learning, because it has an extensive reference list.

Designing the instruction to make use of authenticity is very important as we discussed in the posts. Thank you Hatice for sharing this : )

Hi, Duolingo is a good example of a intelligent language tutoring system and it is worth to check it out.

Thank you Yasin. I tried it in Spanish and liked it a lot. I will try it with my studs and see if it works on them.

I also liked and tried this to learn French a bit. I might have annoyed some people home by trying to pronounce some words hundreds times :)

You've surely heard the slogans: "Our educational games will give your brain a workout!" Or how about, "Give your students the cognitive muscles they need to build brain fitness." And then there's the program that "builds, enhances, and restores natural neural pathways to assist natural learning."

Fischer's ideas are really interesting. I was most confused about his idea of left-right brained.
