Nine Reasons to Twitter in Schools - 0 views

  • 1. Together we’re better

  • Why should educators get involved with Twitter? Here are nine reasons.
  • 2. Global or local: you choose

  • 3. Self-awareness and reflective practice

  • 4. Ideas workshop and sounding board
    • António Teixeira

Discussão de ideias com 140 caracteres de comprimento?... Hum, não me parece...
  • 5. Newsroom and innovation showcase

  • 6. Professional development and critical friends
    • António Teixeira

Ainda bem que uso o Twitter, caso contrário o meu desenvolvimento profissional estava comprometido. LOL.
  • 7. Quality-assured searching
    • António Teixeira

Qualidade assegurada?
  • 8. Communicate, communicate, communicateExpressing yourself in 140 characters is a great discipline.

  • 9. Getting with the times has never been so easy!

  • By Laura Walker.

eLearn: Feature Article - E-learning 2.0 - 1 views

  • e-learning is evolving with the World Wide Web as a whole and it's changing to a degree significant enough to warrant a new name: E-learning 2.0.
  • When we think of learning content today, we probably think of a learning object. Originating in the world of computer-based delivery (CBT) systems, learning objects were depicted as being like lego blocks or atoms, little bits of content that could be put together or organized. Standards bodies have refined the concept of learning objects into a rigorous form and have provided specifications on how to sequence and organize these bits of content into courses and package them for delivery as though they were books or training manuals
  • In learning, these trends are manifest in what is sometimes called "learner-centered" or "student-centered" design. This is more than just adapting for different learning styles or allowing the user to change the font size and background color; it is the placing of the control of learning itself into the hands of the learner [5].
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • In the world of e-learning, the closest thing to a social network is a community of practice, articulated and promoted by people such as Etienne Wenger in the 1990s. According to Wenger, a community of practice is characterized by "a shared domain of interest" where "members interact and learn together" and "develop a shared repertoire of resources."

Future Of Education: The Best 2009 Articles And Reports From MasterNewMedia - 4 views

  • A new year has just begun, but while time passes by our educational system keeps standing still. Your kids are still learning the same way you did 20-30 years ago, because they are still in a classroom with books.
  • Online learning tools and technologies have surfaced in recent years but the impression you get is that e-learning is still confined to a little group of savvy educators who have understood how to leverage the power of the Internet for teaching and learning.
  • the educational paradigm has not fully embraced those fantastic discoveries to give birth to a new learning paradigm that gets rid of useless exams, tests and paper sheets to focus on those new learning skills required to live a successful and meaningful life.

Don't Tell Your Parents: Schools Embrace MySpace - 0 views

  • Some of these features might cause tutors to balk, but Elgg's creators say the collaborative, conversational exchanges in which today's students have become so fluent outside class are the best way to deliver learning inside it.

How the iPhone Could Reboot Education | Gadget Lab | Wired.com - 0 views

  • How do you educate a generation of students eternally distracted by the internet, cellphones and video games? Easy. You enable them by handing out free iPhones — and then integrating the gadget into your curriculum.
  • That’s the idea Abilene Christian University has to refresh classroom learning. Located in Texas, the private university just finished its first year of a pilot program, in which 1,000 freshman students had the choice between a free iPhone or an iPod Touch.
  • Think web apps to turn in homework, look up campus maps, watch lecture podcasts and check class schedules and grades. For classroom participation, there’s even polling software for Abilene students to digitally raise their hand.
  • ...4 more annotations...
  • Conversely, the problem with the internet is there’s too much information, and it’s difficult to determine which data is valuable.
  • The iPhone is aiding Abilene in giving students the information they need — when they want it, wherever they want it, said Bill Rankin, a professor of medieval studies who helped plan the initiative.
  • nstead of standing in front of a classroom and talking for an hour, Rankin instructs his students to use their iPhones to look up relevant information on the fly. Then, the students can discuss the information they’ve found, and Rankin leads the dialogue by helping assess which sources are accurate and useful.
  • “Polling opens up new realms for people for discussion,” said Tyler Sutphen, an ACU sophomore who has participated in the iPhone initiative for a year. “It’s a lot more interactive for those who aren’t as willing to jump up and throw out their answer in class. Instead, you push a button on the iPhone.”

What is Web 2.0 by Tim O'Reilly (artigo traduzido em francês) - 0 views

VoiceThreads: Extending the Classroom with Interactive Multimedia Albums | Edutopia - 0 views

  • VoiceThreads might best be described as interactive media albums. They are essentially online slide shows of images, documents, or videos that enable viewers to comment on any slide (or at any point in the video) by typing, recording an audio or video comment, or drawing on the image itself. Teachers have been early adopters of the easy-to-learn technology, which has led the company to launch Ed.VoiceThread.com, a secure site just for educators and their students, says VoiceThreads cofounder Ben Papell.

  • ...1 more annotation...
