For Walker Open Field, we wanted a way to collect community submitted events and display them on our site. We have our own calendar and we discussed whether adding the events to our internal Calendar CMS was the best way, or if using an outside calendar solution was the direction to go. In the end, we decided to do both, using Google Calendar for community events and our own calendar CMS for Walker-programmed events.

Warum nicht den Besuchern am Ein-/Ausgang zeigen, dass sie das Museum "antweeten" können, dass sie dem Museum ein Foto auf die Pinnwand schicken können, dass sie mit dem Blog aktuelle Geschichten zu kommenden Sonderausstellungen bekommen können,... Ohne entsprechenden Hinweis mit Aufsteller, Rollup, Bildschirm, Kärtchen oder Banner würde das Offline-Publikum nicht unbedingt nach einem speziellen Museum suchen (dazu muss gesagt werden, dass mittlerweile ein Großteil der Museen2.0 auf ihrer Website die Social Web-Präsenzen per Icons verlinken).

The following manuscript, consisting of 281 handwritten pages of unlined drawing paper, was discovered in the studio of Impressionist painter Edgar Degas (1834-1917) shortly after his death. Recorded as Lot 49 in the legendary 1918 auction of Degas's collection, the manuscript was purchased by economist John Maynard Keynes, who attended the sale as a buyer for the London National Gallery. The pages apparently remained in Keynes's possession until his death in 1946.

I've been building a site in my spare time for a friend - it is called The Last Survivors, and focuses on two particular species that are facing extinction. One of the requirements was for the editors of the site to be able to add results from their surveys of these species quickly to a Google Map for embedding in the website. Nothing particularly new in the build there, but I wanted to make sure that the workflow was as seamless as possible and at the same time keep the dev work to a minimum.

Recently I've been thinking of more and more ways that museums and libraries can expose their collections via other methods besides typing a search term into a search box - yawn… Like most Australians I've been playing around with the street view data Google have added in for Australia cities and it got me thinking, how could this be used by museums and libraries.

"We need a blog!".  The boss needs to be able to cover their trail, so they require a strategy to go along with it.  The team creates a strategy full of love and happiness, the boss has no clue what it means and three (3) days later…violla!  The blog is in place.

RS combines research tools with social networking applications such as forums, wikis and blogs. The research tools are launched from a custom toolbar embedded into the collaboration application itself and therefore they are easily incorporated into a project's workflow . Essentially these research tool 'plug-ins' provide an additional layer of functionality so that data and digital assets can be searched and edited while engaging in more informal collaboration and communication activity. Conversely, it is the collaboration activity that creates opportunities for more formal data recording.

Every day millions of Britons engage with the arts and cultural sector through digital media.1 This engagement comes in many forms and is in a constant state of evolution, driven by technological change. Five years ago, mobile phones were for texts and calls and Facebook barely existed. Today, a quarter of us have a smartphone through which we can listen to a song, or watch a trailer for an artistic performance.2 Over 40,000 people track the Royal Opera House, and over 58,000 the British Museum, through Facebook; while FACT in Liverpool has 7,000 Twitter followers.However, this research represents the first time that this online engagement with arts and culture in England has been captured and quantified
