Tate Britain | Your Collection - 1 views

  •
Tate Britain displays British art from 1500 to today. Yes, it's a museum, but it's also like a big living room. All those works of art are yours. Tate has devised a new way of looking at the Displays with a range of themed 'Collections'. These suggest a number of personal journeys you could take, reflecting different moods and enthusiasms and revealing the extraordinary breadth of work on show.

"What can all of this tell us? Museums are creating YouTube videos but only a small number of users watch them and an even smaller number interact with them. YouTube's front page shows us their most popular videos. Users are catching up on TV programmes, getting their celebrity fixes and watching those random funnies."

Everyone's a critic now | Culture | The Observer - 0 views

Eine Reflektion über Populärkultur und die Rolle der Kritik in Zeiten sozialer Medien...: "The point is that authority has migrated from critics to ordinary folks, and there is nothing - not collusion or singleness of purpose or torrents of publicity - that the traditional critics can do about it. They have seen their monopoly usurped by what amounts to a vast technological word-of-mouth of hundreds of millions of people."

Storytelling: digital technology allows us to tell tales in innovative new wa... - 0 views

Storytelling: digital technology allows us to tell tales in innovative new ways. As the tools available to publishers grow more sophisticated, it's up to us to experiment and see what sticks. [...]Stories are memory aids, instruction manuals and moral compasses. When enlisted by charismatic leaders and turned into manifestos, dogmas and social policy, they've been the foundations for religions and political systems. When a storyteller has held an audience captive around a campfire, a cinema screen or on the page of a bestseller, they've reinforced local and universal norms about where we've been and where we're going. And when they've been shared in the corner shop, at the pub or over dinner they've helped us define who we are and how we fit in. Human experience is a series of never-ending, overlapping stories bumping into one another in expected and unexpected ways.[...]

Why a museum is the UK's top brand on Twitter |Social media agency London | FreshNetwor... - 0 views

  •
"Last week we looked a ranking of the top ten brands on Facebook globally, based on the number of people who 'like' them. There were no real surprises - Starbucks came top and the rest of the top ten was filled with well-known consumer and fashion brands. When considering brands on Twitter this story is sometimes different and it is not always the obvious brands that are most followed."

Should museums be using social media more creatively? | Tate Blog - 0 views

  •
"It's one thing to manage your profiles on the proliferating social networking and sharing sites as an individual, but as an institution it's quite another. So, we ask ourselves this question at Tate social media HQ all the time. We'd like to know how you see it."

The Pitt Rivers Museum's 'Tibet Album' site, which brings together 6,000 historic photographs from Tibet, was partially intended as a resource for Tibetans (how do you reach a diaspora population? the Web!) and certainly does function that way--we've had lots of feedback.

How not to use Twitter: HabitatUK as a case study - 0 views

  •
Habitat is a trendy furniture store, set up by Terence Conran in the 1970s, for those who've never been to the UK its like a slightly more upmarket version of Ikea. @HabitatUK turned up on Twitter a couple of days ago, and decided to use trending topic #hashtags at the start of their tweets to get noticed. They used ones that had absolutely nothing to do with furniture, decorating, or shopping, but obviously the top hashtags for Thursday evening AEST such as #iPhone #mms #Apple and even Australia's Masterchef contestant who got voted off #Poh.
