Due to the pandemic, there is an increase of need to help guests feel safe and to cater to the new habits of guests. The article from hospitality.net notes that during reopening, guests will be congregating less in hotel lobbies, bars, restaurants, etc., as these venues are also reducing their capacity.
  •
The bartech e-bar is convenient as hotels can seamlessly control these functions, and now it makes more sense than ever due to reduced capacity at hotels bars, that implementing a bartech mini bar will enhance customer satisfaction. There is a downloadable application to control the functions of the e-bar. Since guests are spending more time in the room and less in the hotel bar, the e-bar is a convenient way for hotels to increase their profits during this difficult time. It can also monitor when and what the guest is taking, and store this data for reference. In another way, it can monitor its touching by guests usage which eliminates the need for hotel staff to enter the room and check the bar--which reduces the touching and entering of people into rooms.
  •
Besides ensuring guests of new safety protocols, the electronic mini bar reduces touch and saves costs to hotels because hotels can remotely change settings on the bar, for example, by locking, unlocking, remotely shutting off or reducing temperatures during non-occupancy. The article then suggests that a "well-run mini-bar" is a profit center to any hotel and to implement an e-bar makes sense for guest satisfaction and also to save costs, especially during this time.

  • Magnetic strip key card systems are widely used in the hotel industry and in workplace security. This card looks like a credit card with a thin metallic strip on the back.
  • This type of card is much more difficult to forge than holecards and bar codes, providing an added layer of security.
  • RFID key card systems are a more recent form of technology than holecards, bar code cards or magnetic strip cards. RFID cards have a radio sensor chip embedded inside the card.

Bar code cards is exactly that a card with a Bar code, like you see at the supermarket, which is placed under an electronic reader. This type of key has been fazed out due to easily being fooled. The magnetic strip key card are widely used in the hotel industry. They look like a credit card with a metallic strip on the back. It has extra protection unlike other types of keys. The newest system is the RFID key card system, which has a radio sensor chip embedded inside. It works with a programmed reader and when the key is brought in close range the door unlocks and opens. Marilyn, This is an interesting article because I never knew the progression of hotel key cards. I do not think anyone did and we just assume they started somewhere simple and got to where they are at now. Key Cards with RFID seem as though they are the best type of key but also very expensive for the hotels, especially if it is a large property. We only see the one kind of key card now in hotels and to me it seems secure but who knows what information is actually stored on that card. Great article !

Beacons to supercharge bar & restaurant marketing strategy | Beaconstac - 2 views

  • Location-based marketing that promised to leverage online platforms to promote physical restaurants and bars, began with “check-ins”.
  • 2014 saw beacons taking baby steps into the hospitality industry.
  • But in 2017, with the explosion of supply of beacons, the price has significantly lowered and functionality has gone up to the point where they are within reach for even small restaurants.
  • ...28 more annotations...
  • When a Bluetooth-enabled device such as a smartphone or tablet comes in the range of a beacon, the two devices can communicate.
  • Once in the proximity of a beacon, these smartphones receive push notifications about deals, offers and more.
  • people barely register the brands they’ve seen, much less engage with them. But that’s changing with beacons!
  • restaurants use this technology in a different way to engage guests and increase repeat visits
  • The obvious benefit to using this technology is its ability to push out coupons, deals and marketing messages.
  • This value addition is critical for you when you’re looking to rise above the competition in a highly crowded space.

  • 2. Delivering tailored menu to loyal customers
  • Every restaurant owner including you loves a loyal customer and beacons make it easier to reward them.
  • 3. Let your customers know how crowded the restaurant is before they arrive
  • Keeping customers informed about how busy your restaurant is at a particular time is one way of cutting down on the time they need to wait.
  • 4. Custom pricing for different customers
  • When it comes to winning over a customer, it’s not a bad idea to play with dynamic pricing.
  • 5. Get a better insight into your restaurant and bar traffic
  • It’s always an advantage to optimize with data.
  • 6. Allow guests to make mobile payments
  • Beacons can allow them to pay their bill right from their phones by directing them to a secure restaurant-branded microsite that collects their payment method.
  • You could create a special menu or a secret dish for your loyal customer based on his previous orders and selections.
  • Deploying beacons around your restaurant will, in turn, provide real-time information on how many people are actually dining inside at a given point in time
  • With the footfall data from beacons, you can efficiently manage your staff and services. Maybe you do not really need 5 bar staff on the second floor on a Tuesday, or you need an extra attendee around the tables nearer to the entry gate.
  • If your restaurant has an app, you can use beacons to trigger a contactless ordering experience.

Even though using beacon technology for proximity marketing is still in its infancy in the restaurant industry, this technology has already demonstrated some of its potential by virtue of increasing labor and overall operational efficiency while boosting customer satisfaction and loyalty. Beacons can help increase restaurant and bar sales, improve customer service, and provide more value for their customers, which should lead to customer loyalty. The possibility of applying beacon technology in the restaurants and bars opens a window of opportunity to engage diners and also enables restaurants to create more tailored experiences for them. Restaurants can use beacons to send alerts to people nearby about many table/seat availability and encourage them to make reservations or walk in. Or if the restaurant is very busy, restaurants can send the menu to their phones, so they can browse it while waiting for their tables. Restaurants and bars can build profiles of returning customers and provide offers based on past preferences. Thus, returning customers can benefit from improved and personalized customer service. During quiet hours or days, restaurants and bars can efficiently manage their staff and service, because of the data they have been collecting using beacons. Diners can even pay for their meal or drinks using their mobile device without having to wait for the waiter to come over and accept their method of payment.

This article discusses how restaurants use beacon-based proximity marketing to help create even more meaningful and engaging interactions with customers. Proximity marketing is most often used in retail stores to bring in customers to the store by offering promotions through push notifications. This article will highlight how restaurants use the same beacon technology as retail shops do, but to achieve different results. Restaurants can use beacons to save time for not only customers but managers and employees as well. Beacon technology provides management with data insights that allow them to deliver better experiences to their customers.

This articles talks about what beacon-based proximity marketing is and its usefulness in restaurants.
  •
Beacon technology has been around for a long time - prior to 2013 - but cost kept it unpopular. Initially only real big hospitality players had this tech. Now cost is no longer a limiting factor, but companies are limited to customers/potential customers who have a compatible app or the companies own app already on their phone, so they can push the proximity messages.

What is Point of Sale (POS) Systems? Definition of POS with Examples - 0 views

  • A point-of-sale (POS) transaction is what takes place between a merchant and a customer when a product or service is purchased, commonly using a point of sale system to complete the transaction.
  • In its most basic definition, a POS system is a combination of POS hardware and POS software to create a POS machine for processing a transaction and payment.
  • a POS terminal is the electronic equipment performing the sales transaction and processing the credit card payments. Used in most storefront businesses, a computer terminal combined with the POS software helps to manage everyday sales transactions and operations.
  • ...11 more annotations...
  • The hardware components bundle will typically include a POS terminal, receipt printer, credit card reader, cash drawer, barcode scanner, kitchen or bar printer (for restaurants), and possibly even an on-site computer server for older legacy systems
  • The primary reason you need a point of sale for a restaurant is to accept cash and credit card payments. In addition to receiving payments, you need to be able to track all your financial and tax data.
  • A restaurant management system is recommended if you’re a restaurateur and want to be competitive in the business. Many types of restaurants need to utilize a POS like full-service restaurants, quick-service restaurants, fast food, take-out only, cafe’s, pizza shop, etc
  • Recipe costing is just one example of features a restaurant computer system can provide. Some other features and services you’re going to need potentially are restaurant marketing, customer management, online ordering, loyalty program, server sales performance, new versus repeat customers, invoice purchasing, menu performance, employee management, and sales reporting.
  • The only negative to implementing a new restaurant management system is the training time and challenge of learning new software. But that’s only temporary,
  • The main features to look for in bar software is preauthorization (or “preauth”) of payments for tabs management, bar and liquor inventory and control, speed functions like reordering rounds, bar prep printing, fast checkout, and quality 24/7 support. For the reporting side, you’ll want to see your labor costs compared to sales, product reports, and all your sales and tax reports.Additional register features to consider for nightclub and bar point of sale software is employee management, inventory management, customer loyalty, recipes, tab management, quick reorder rounds, and quick customer checkout. Reporting is critical as well to keep track of your food and beverage taxes. Also, you’ll want to have online access to see your labor costs and sales reports
  • Retail businesses can have some particular requirements and features that other programs will not have. They can have retail shop features such as color and size matrixing, inventory tracking, employee commissions, gift registry, customer database, layaway, and purchase orders
  • If you’re not processing an enormous amount of volume and speed isn’t as critical (like in a restaurant or bar), then a mobile POS could be just the answer to save you some money
  • A cloud-based POS system is a point of sale platform that stores information on the cloud. Cloud-based systems typically don’t record much information on your terminal device. Instead, all data is stored in the cloud and synchronized across multiple terminals.
  • Nail and hair salon POS systems can sometimes crossover for other business types like barber shops, gyms, fitness clubs, beauty schools, massage parlors, pet grooming, tattoo parlors, to name a few. That is because these other business types will especially require an appointment calendar and may need retail functionality with inventory control, and not every software program has those features
  • In this POS guide, we discussed everything related to POS systems, including the meaning of POS, the definition of mPOS, what the difference is between a cash register and POS, how a point of sale system work, and the different types of systems with examples
  •
(1 of 3) POSUSA had originally published an article in 2017 about the definition of Point-of-Sale (POS) and a guide to understanding POS more in depth. This article was updated in May of 2021 to represent the ongoing challenges in the hospitality industry due to COVID-19. The article begins by defining a POS transaction as "what takes place between a merchant and a customer when a product or service is purchased, commonly using a point of sale system to complete the transaction." The original idea of a POS system was that of a cash register, but what is in the system make up today is far more complex. A POS system and a POS terminal are one in the same, as the terminal is the physical piece of equipment that processes the information for the POS. The system is composed of many different components as with any piece of technology. "The hardware components bundle will typically include a POS terminal, receipt printer, credit card reader, cash drawer, barcode scanner, kitchen or bar printer (for restaurants), and possibly even an on-site computer server for older legacy systems." These systems continue to make advancements that evolve with the times and can keep up efficiently with the business they are working with.
  •
(2 of 3) The article continues on to discuss the many different types of POS systems and how they can be used for different types of businesses. The restaurant POS system, for example, is the most complex POS system and is the most commonly seen system in the industry. Through the restaurant POS, a business can have a restaurant management system, which helps them run the business efficiently through features such as recipe costing, customer management, reporting, and many other features discussed. Bar, nightclub, retail, small business, salon, and spa POS systems all have very similar features, but are catered to each businesses specific operational need. Cloud-based and mobile POS systems are also discussed in the article as a way to store all POS information in the cloud. The advantages of mPOS were discussed in depth as this can be accessed through an application, making mobility much easier in our ever-advancing technological world.
  •
(3 of 3) The article also provided an introduction of how POS systems work, as a basic understanding is necessary when considering purchasing a system. Through understanding how the POS system works, we see that a POS transaction is "simply any transaction that occurs within a business." POS payment is "when a customer and merchant exchange products or services completing a POS transaction aka point of sale purchase," which can sometimes be referred to as point of purchase, or POP. Finally, the article discusses how POS systems have played a role during the pandemic. While online POS systems have been used for many years to keep businesses on their feet, during the current state of the world this has become even more necessary. The article discusses how important it is to keep the payment process simple, yet secure so that the business may rely on this as a way to make income and customers can enjoy a seamless experience. This article does a very good job of explaining in-depth what a POS system is and how it is relevant to every line of business in the hospitality industry. As online sales continue to grow and as the state of the world remains uncertain, POS system popularity will only continue to rise and advance to create the best possible experience for both the businesses and consumers involved.

Libation automation: L.V. investors' Smartender mixes cocktails at touch of a button - ... - 2 views

  • Fieldman’s target customers include movie theaters, casinos, restaurant chains and stadiums, not local bars. He’s going after clients that can easily afford his product and might want it to serve a few thousand drinks a day, whether it’s helping order-slammed bartenders out front, making drinks in the kitchen for servers to pick up, or wheeling it poolside at a hotel.
  • The machine makes one drink at a time, whereas bartenders can line up several glasses at once to fill up, said Aria bartender Nick Houck, a member of Local 165’s executive board
  • Fieldman said the Smartender cannot replace all bartenders. However, he said it could “eliminate some labor costs in certain environments,” such as replacing a back-of-house service bartender or an extra bartender who’d be out front on busy nights to help fill orders.
  •
This article discusses the different environments in which a Smart Bar may be functional and efficient.  It intelligently discusses both sides, positive and negative of the Smart Bar and defends itself against trying to take away Bar tender positions.
  •
As with any new technology, I believe this product must find its niche. I don't believe that it will replace a face to face bartender in every situation. In areas where the customer needs to "grab a drink and go" (i.e. Theaters, Stadiums, Hotel Lobbies, etc) I think this is an excellent option. This system cannot completely replace a bartender, but it can make a drink quickly and accurately in situations where that is all that is required. This system cannot upsell, suggest particular menu items, create complex or frozen drinks, communicate with a lonely customer, etc. I believe that there is a tremendous market for a product like this, and, as a former bartender, I am jealous that I didn't come up with this idea myself.
  •
Fieldman's intentions for the target audience for this technology may be overstretching the capabilities. I do see the movie theaters as a great option for this product. Certain areas of casinos and stadiums as a possibility for locations, such as the poker room areas in casinos or boxes in stadiums would be good locations too. I would see volume of business being the biggest enemy of this technology.

Florida Theatre Lifts Curtain on New Point-of-Sale System - : - 0 views

  • With up to ten separate bars, Florida Theatre is challenged to keep up with orders and payments during its nightly events. As host to some of the biggest names in entertainment, the historic venue offers 200 entertainment events each year, catering to all age groups and tastes
  • Florida Theatre’s ten bars were still using standard cash drawers and external credit card machines. Not only was this process slow, but it also posed challenges to the four mobile bars that had to be set up for larger events.
  • They also needed a streamlined solution that required less equipment and built-in inventory tracking. With multiple bars operating at varying intervals, Florida Theatre’s management needed to be able to manage everything from one place, rather than having to aggregate data from up to ten different POS systems.

  • POS Prophet Systems installed a cloud-based POSExpress system at each stationary bar. Because the theater’s four mobile bars were packed up and stored after each major event, POS Prophet Systems also installed a smaller footprint of the hardware at each mobile bar. These mobile versions were built to safely withstand being moved throughout the theater as needed.
  • At the end of the evening, Florida Theatre’s management was excited to see that all of the drawers balanced perfectly and the evening was a huge success. The Florida Theatre now has a POS setup that seamlessly handles inventory management and accounting processes, while also providing information on sales and revenue for each bar. Reporting and inventory are centralized, allowing managers to oversee operations throughout the theater, even on the busiest nights.
  •
The Florida Theatre had been using standard cash drawers and credit card machines to process their guest payments. They had been having multiple issues as far as cash drawer balancing or credit cards not being read correctly. It was affecting their financial statements. They implemented a new POS system to modernize themselves. The POS prophet systems involved the theatre to have to use less equipment and help keep track of their inventory. The POS system overall was a success for the theatre and showed results of having all the cash drawers be balanced . The POS system handles the theatre's inventory and accounting.

Alan Adojaan, who unveiled the robot, says that robot bar staff can help address staffing problems, and also put a halt to other factors, such as overly generous pouring of measures, or giving free drinks to friends, issues he says that may venue owners take as a "given."
  • "We are aiming for places that have a huge turnover of clients, such as sports events, festivals or nightclubs," he says
  • One of its Yanu robots is currently making alcohol-free cocktails at the Estonian pavilion at the World Expo event in Dubai.
  • To help affected human bar staff do just this it launched an initiative in the US in 2019, whereby for each sale of one of its units it would give a barman or woman $1,000 (£747) towards helping them retrain.
  • "Robots will not replace traditional [human-staffed] bars," says Jan Hiersemenzel, the head of marketing for Swiss firm F&P Robotics, which makes a robot bar server called barney bar
  • The bar staff themselves, he adds, often have the unenviable task of dealing with "obnoxious drunk people"
  • Harry Gordon Johnson once said: "The greatest accomplishment of a bartender lies in his ability to exactly suit his customer."
  • The company says that each unit can be filled with 70 litres of different types of spirits, and that it can serve up to 120 cocktails per hour.

iPad POS use rising among restaurants | Nation's Restaurant News - 1 views

  • Wishart said the most appealing aspect of the iPad is how it speeds up the ordering process in the restaurant. “The orders are in the kitchen or bar while the server is still at the table,” he said.
  • He said food and beverage notes can quickly be called up from the tablets’ built-in applications or third-party software by the wait staff to answer guest inquiries.
  • Wishart said he spent about $3,000 on the hardware — including around $500-plus for each of four iPads and another $900 or so for four wireless printers, two of which are in the kitchen, while the third and fourth are in the bar and dining room. That compares with the $12,000 to $20,000 upfront costs of some conventional POS systems, he said.

The article, iPad POS Use Rising Among Restaurants, reflects the evolution and implementation of both hardware and POS software within the restaurant industry. The iPad is revolutionizing POS systems, helping to increase the efficiency for the restaurants. According to Chris Wishart, restaurateur of the Trio Restaurant & Bar, "You don't have to worry about servers coming back into the kitchen 10 or 15 times a night asking questions". This allows for the quicker and more efficient placing of orders that contribute to higher customer satisfaction, which is to an extent difficult to measure. As well, Wishart comments about the hardware cost an estimated $3,000, in comparison to the typical upfront POS system costs of $12,000 to $20,000. Including, the use of the cloud base technology has eliminated the need for store software upkeep. The iPad is a versatile hardware that has allowed POS software companies to benefit mutually along with restaurants.

Like Stephanie Izard's Goatceries. So smart to engage in a new way
  • As best as you can, try to figure out who your audience is. I knew that I had to aim at folks who were looking at quarantine as a time to explore their passions. My classes are quite reasonably priced, but they, and the wines that accompany them, are definitely more expensive than many wine drinkers would be interested in, and I'm fine with that. I feel very confident that I can deliver a class experience that makes people feel very good about the $25-$35 they've spent on a 90 minute class.”

With restaurants having to go dark to most of their customers, it has become essential to reinvent and find a way to connect through online events. Using newer technologies like Zoom, Tock, and other social media platforms, closed restaurants and bars can find a way to connect and engage their customers, and sometimes even find a profit in it. In this article, we follow the path of a wine bar owner who closed his doors early on. He then moved to zoom classes for his servers, and decided to tailor them to his consumers. Now, he offers virtual tasting experiences that are followed up with the options to buy those wines directly from his bar. He also has done classes for 25-35 that engage his consumers in a positive experience. I've seen this happen a lot lately with successful pivots in restaurants. Girl and The Goat did this with goatceries, where she has created multi-day groceries that are partially prepared that guests can pick up and then follow her online cooking class directions. I've also seen this with Christina Tosi as she has started online baking classes through Instagram. If restaurants can continue this through the pandemic, it might offer another new option for revenue in the future.

Take 5: Barry Fieldman, Smart Bar USA - in the Mix Magazine - 0 views

  • Barry Fieldman Co-Managing Partner Smart Bar USA
  • The primary users of the SmarTender are cocktail servers and waiters/waitresses.
  • Today we have installations in movie theaters all over the U.S., including many Regal Cinemas. We have installed numerous units in hotel casino gaming properties (both American Indian gaming and non-American Indian gaming). The SmarTenders are deployed at service bars, pool cabanas, theaters and restaurants. We have also placed our SmarTenders in private suites at major stadiums including those for the Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins. Cruise lines are currently looking into using our machines as well. Portable SmarTenders are also currently utilized in banquet and catering halls.

  • The software also prevents unauthorized use by automatically locking the system after each user’s order is complete.
  • Each user is provided an access code or employee swipe card, and all drinks prepared by that access code are stored and recorded in the on-board management screen.
  • The SmarTender will not replace a bartender who serves those customers seated at the bar; that is part of the relationship a proprietor has with a customer. There are many applications where a customer orders a drink and never sees it made by a bartender. In these cases, a service bar is utilized and a “service” bartender prepares drinks for servers. SmarTender can eliminate the need for that extra bartender, thereby affecting labor costs. The servers do not share their tips with a service bartender because there isn’t one – this makes the servers happy. The customer gets their drink faster (keeping the customer happy and more drinks sold) because the server is in control and not dependent on a service bartender.

This article is an interview with one of the managing partners of SmartBar. He speaks about some of the specific uses and that it was never intended to replace a Bartender, so to speak, more of replacing a service Bartender. Its worth the read.

Brigham and Women's Hospital Tests NFC RFID for Patient Bedsides - RFID Journal - 0 views

  • Harvard Medical School teaching affiliate Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) is testing a Near Field Communication (NFC) RFID system it developed that enables health-care staff members to manage the administration of medication at a patient's bedside.
  • consists of a Google Nexus 7 tablet and a software app that interprets RFID tag data regarding patients and the medications they receive. The system works with passive NFC RFID tags attached to medications, to patients' wristbands and to staff members' ID badges, thereby enabling a user to read the tags and link the patient, caretaker and medication in the app
  • Since 2005, BWH has managed its medication administration data via bar codes

  • However, Landman notes, the time spent scanning bar codes, as well as the difficulty in ensuring a strong Bluetooth connection, can often make data collection during these visits time-consuming. The bar codes themselves could be difficult to scan as well—in many cases, a bar code is printed on a crinkled wrapper that can be difficult to scan. What's more, he says, pushing the workstation-on-wheels from one room to another is cumbersome.
  • Landman's team built a prototype system, using a Nexus 7 tablet, which comes with a built-in NFC RFID reader. They loaded the tablet with the app, and then attached NFC RFID tags to some pharmaceuticals, staff badges and patient wristbands.

This program insures the safety and well keeping of the patients. I know it's not the latest in-room safe technology. But having just been in a hospital and having a dreadful experience I can honestly say that this technology would have helped.  During my hospital stay I was lost, mistaken for a man, not given an IV, and almost given the wrong prescription. Now I know it was 3 am, but if this program would have been installed I don't think I would have the same story to tell. The fact that the software tracks both the patients and the staff is what I find amazing. That was the biggest problem with my visit. No-one knew who was supposed to take care of me. This would have changed all of that.

Hotel Marketing with Proximity Marketing and Geofencing - 1 views

  • According to the Smith Travel Research Inc., US tourism is on the rise with a 4.1 percent increase in Q1 hotel bookings. In order to stay competitive in an industry as tough as hospitality, it is now as important as ever for hotels to accomplish an important goal: improve guest experience by making customers feel valued. The key to this is creating a personalized experience for each individual. One way to go about this is to learn more about customers by offering coupons, discounts, and other promotional material based on preference.
  • Improving Customer Experience
  • This situation is a win-win for both the customer and the hotel because: 1. The customer is happy because he or she received a personal invitation to the bar with a free drink coupon.2. The hotel bar manager is happy because he or she potentially received an interested patron who will most likely spend more money.

  • Corporate buyers will have the business intelligence to match travel expenditure to their budgets and give travelers greater flexibility of hotel choice based on Best Available Rates (BAR)
  • “Corporate travelers are noticing fluctuations in Best Available Rates (BAR) online and need to compare these public prices to their negotiated contracts to ensure they are getting the best deal
  • “Buyers need to shop rates that are comparable to their purchases, by setting simple filters that identify room types and meal plans, etc therefore making more accurate price comparisons. Crucially all filters are shopped regardless of the specific view defined. This allows the user to change the parameters after the shop without the need to shop again, making more detailed data available faster.”

As technology continues to advance, companies are looking into what works well for what kinda consumer. RateTiger is targeting corporate consumers, who want to be in control of room rates and have the ability to negotiate better deal based on services provided. RTC uses RPS, rate parameter shopping that searches thru hundreds of travel sites, hotel brand sites and GDS offeres corporate buyers, OTA's and travel companies the opportunities to build a rate around the best room rate for the perks and services, in comparison to what the public pays.

Excellent Article!...While corporate travelers are noticing fluctuations in "Best Available Rates (BAR)" I can only imagine that hotel owners and stakeholders are seeing a decrease of revenue caused by the ADR (Average Daily Rate). During the recession hotels had to re-shape their thinking and lower Corporate Room Rates to stay afloat; these changes caused the ADR to be lower than usual. As the economy improved, it has been harder for companies to re-negotiate corporate rates in an attempt to increase the ADR and profits for owners/stakeholders. http://www.bcdtravel.com/global/show_document.asp?id=aaaaaaaaaadsveg

This technology will provide business travelers the ability to compare hotel prices based on the type of rooms. This will help the customer in customizing their own needs during travel, while being price savvy. The traveler also has the ability to have default settings that will meet their own room specifications.

New Age CCTV Systems, Now With Brains - The Shout, Hotel News, Liquor News, Bar Club ... - 0 views

Security and POS wrapped up in one tight little bow. Vectron has came out with a new cctv system that integrates to the hotel or bars POS system. Now the security system time stamps all images linked up to transactions. GM's can set up alerts to be sent to their mobiles or emails. Why is this important? Incidents like employee theft, fraudulent credit card use, guest intoxication, credit card disputes and underage service can all be tracked, imaged and time stamped to serve as evidence. This can help in insurance claims, police reports, reporting credit card fraud or dismissal of employees. There are many times where customers dispute there bills after they have received services in Miami and linking the POS to the security system would be a tool in fighting for payments deserved. Too bad this is a Australian Device and not in America.

Digital Gifting Is Trending in the Hospitality Industry - 0 views

  • Mercator further projects the 2013 holiday volume of digital gifting will exceed $1 billion
  • Some related consumer m-commerce facts include: 59 percent are interested in using mobile as a form of payment 50 percent of U.S. consumers shop with mobile devices 61 percent are interested in checking balances 59 percent are interested in organizing and tracking gift cards and loyalty via mobile 76 percent want an alternative to carrying everything in their wallets 12 percent of mobile U.S. subscribers who receive a text message (SMS) advertisement  tend to respond quickly; practitioners claim that offers sent via SMS convert 10 times to 20 times higher than either email or direct mail deals.
  •
Summary: The variety of gifting options has grown from a simple plastic gift card to virtual cards delivered by email, text, debit/credit cards and more. The prediction for 2013 will exceed a billion dollars of digital gifting for the holiday season and continue to grow. Digital gift cards have made giving easy due to the convenience of redemption. Paper coupons have proven to be successful to draw in consumer activity, but the digital revolution in virtual gifting is expected to explode as people are so connected to their mobile devices. Even with the convenience and growing popularity of digital gifting comes barriers and security issues. Such issues include personal banking security and privacy. Some small to midsize businesses may not be able to participate in digital gifting due to cost barriers or lack of technology. Due to electronic process, paper receipts will be obsolete. Computers aren't perfect so how does one resolve dollar discrepancies. One benefit of virtual giving is the bar codes/QR codes. Companies are able to collect and retain additional information of givers and receivers by scanning the bar code/QR Code. Often people are reluctant to provide contact information, but in this case they aren't being asked, they have no choice. This is a benefit to the companies because they can make other promotional offers to engage and possibly retain both parties, thereby increasing sales. There are a variety of methods of virtual gifting and redemption. One example is Giftly. Giftly adds the value of the gift to the recipient's credit or debit card which can be used anywhere. This is super convenient for many people and they are able to choose whatever they wish rather than receive a gift chosen for them. This is certainly the digital age version of sending a check via mail to a loved one. Other corporate examples that have impacted the transition from plastic gift cards to virtual gifting are Burger King, Dunkin Donuts, Applebee's and Starbu
