Amadeus steps up efforts to enable personalized travel experiences - Runway GirlRunway Girl - 0 views

  • Amadeus also found that 26% of travelers are more likely to respond to messages tailored to their personal interests, and 22% are more likely to respond to promotions that are specific to their location.
  • Merchandising is about providing customers with a shopping experience that presents products in the best possible light, at the best possible time, and allows them to tailor their travel experience. In the past, GDSs have faced criticism from airlines and other industry stakeholders for not always being able to accommodate this philosophy
  • Fast forward to today, and Amadeus is working hard to change this perception by providing tools to travel agents that allow the passenger experience to be personalized. In addition to making ancillary services available to travel agents at the point-of-sale, they can now access and book even more enriched content through ‘airline fare families’.
  •
Amadeus is working with travel agents to ensure their clients get the most personalized experience possible while booking their vacations especially, airfare. After a study done by Amadeus with Frost & Sullivan, the found that many travelers would respond to messages that they can relate with their interests. Also, they found out that travelers would respond to offers related to their locations. The article summarizes that GDS were not providing the most conclusive and personal content to travel agencies. Amadeus has developed 'fare families' for airlines. These fare families are able to combine options and services that appeal to consumers and give travel agents the ability prepare targeted offers with the GDS in place. Additionally, using consumer relationship management data, like spending patterns and social media, will lead to better customer response. Travel agents rely a great deal on global distribution systems. Amadeus is going in the right direction in giving travel agents the proper tools to succeed in a market that is increasingly booking directly with suppliers. This new personalized offers that Amadeus is bringing to the table may actually give travel agents an advantage over the competition.

Revel Systems Unveils IPad Point-of-Sale Solution For Food Trucks With Twitter Integration :: Restaurant News Resource - 0 views

  • Revel Systems announced the release of an iPad-based restaurant POS system specially designed for food trucks on the go, complete with Twitter integration
  • The food-truck solution is the latest flavor in Revel Systems' revolutionary point-of-sale software line-up, which includes versions for quick-service restaurants (QSR), counter service restaurants and retail.
  • The food truck edition of the POS terminal with the Revel Router is currently available is for $1,999, plus a small monthly software as a service fee.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • The food-truck solution includes Revel Systems' new Revel Router—a "made-for-iPad" device developed by Revel Systems in conjunction with Apple that allows customers to run their iPad POS systems without additional Internet connection hardware or wiring.
  • Instead, Revel Router accesses an Internet connection directly via the user's Verizon 3G- or 4G-enabled Apple iPad, eliminating the need for an Ethernet router or a MiFi 3G hotspot.
  • "Being able to Tweet within the point-of-sale system on the iPad has generated a tremendously enthusiastic response from our food truck restaurant POS solution beta testers, who until now have had to put up with bulky connectivity hardware such as routers and cabling. It's a simple way for them to attract more customers."
  •
Food Trucks no longer have to worry about internet connections, cables and loss of power. This system is on the go and perfect for them and even has a way for them to reach out to customers when they are in a slow time. If food trucks are having a slow day they can just tweet to all of their followers special deals or locations even to attract more business.
  •
Having the iPad POS system in the food trucks is a great idea because the owners no longer have to worry about lots of hardware in the truck just to be able to take payment from customers.
  •
Technology continues to advance in every aspect of the hospitality field even for food trucks businesses. The Revel System has released a new iPad-based restaurant POS system. This system is very convenient for food truck employees. There is no longer need to worry about the hustle and bustle of loose cables and poor router connection. As social media plays an important role in today's day and age the new POS system is equip with Twitter. Food trucks owners can send a tweet out about promotions, discounts, and their current location. This is very much an innovation for food truck businesses.

Entrepreneur Uses Technology to Make Wedding Planning More Transparent - 3 views

  • Tina Hoang-To got the idea to build Wedding Spot after planning her own wedding in late 2012. She felt overwhelmed by the stacks of wedding packets quickly taking over her coffee table, and the thought of researching hundreds of wedding venues was exhausting.
  • a big opportunity to create a company that could help brides plan their dream weddings without going through all the stress
  • Consumer behavior has evolved drastically since the introduction of the Internet
  • ...7 more annotations...
  • Working directly with venues, Wedding Spot gathers all the information required to allow newly engaged couples to easily search for venues based on budget, location, style and guest count. Users can "build out" their ideal wedding day by selecting specific services and options to get an instant price quote and then book a site tour with one click of a button
  • On average, our venues are booking one wedding for every three appointments that we set up, which is a striking contrast to the low-single-digit conversion rates for the wedding industry
  • many sites with a ton of information about wedding venues, but none of them answered the most important question — what would it cost to have a wedding there? Couples would have to email, call or even visit venues just to get a basic wedding information packet with rental fees
  • successful because we were founded at a time when consumers are used to searching for things online and venues are definitely more open to providing transparency in pricing
  • demo our product to venues using an online meeting tool, and our small sales team has been able to onboard hundreds of venues a month
  • online meeting and collaboration software
  • With each venue, we need to walk them through a quick demo of Wedding Spot and then start the process of gathering all the information we need to build out their venue-listing profile on our site
  •
I found this interesting interview of Tina Hoang-To by Jeanette Mulvey. Tina describes what led to the creation of Wedding Spot (the stress of her own wedding) and the growth her company is continually experiencing.  Wedding Spot allows couples to browse, price and compare wedding venues around their preferred location, eliminating the stress of having to visit a high number of different places in order to get of quote. As she described it, I realized it was very similar to what Yelp does for restaurants and bars.  I am not currently planning a wedding but I went browsing through the website and in my opinion this can prove to be an invaluable tool for brides and grooms to be as it saves them time and reduces their stress. It also has a feature that allows users to set a budget.  As more venues join Wedding Spot, I am sure it is only a matter of time before it is a necessary first step to planning a wedding and choosing a venue.

Cybersecurity Tactics for a Hotel Industry that's Under Siege - 0 views

  • Credit card fraud and identity theft should remain high on the hotel and lodging industry’s radar. Just ask Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide (including their Westin, Sheraton and W Hotel brands), Hilton, Hyatt and the Trump Hotel Collection, all of which were victims of highly publicized, major breaches in the hospitality industry last year.
  • Hotels need a ‘toolbelt’ of various security technologies that can be used to prevent malicious attacks. A managed firewall is essential, blocking dangerous traffic from coming onto the network and preventing sensitive data from being exfiltrated, or sent, to the hackers.
  • In the breaches mentioned above, point-of-sale (POS) systems were attacked and malware launched to acquire cardholder names, credit card numbers and expiration dates.
  • ...7 more annotations...
  • It can be difficult and expensive to hire and retain an IT security team
  • One way to implement these advanced toolsets includes outsourcing to a managed security firm specializing in this type of service
  • POS systems are a weak security point for many networks because they are constantly in use — and aren’t always patched, updated or protected from vulnerabilities as frequently as required.
  • personal details for hotel guests are frequently stored in a variety of locations, including billing, facilities, restaurants, etc.
  • otels are made even more vulnerable thanks to POS system provider breaches
  •   Phishing remains a particularly popular tactic used by hackers everywhere, including those that are targeting the hotel industry to trick both prospective guests, who give up credit card and personal details, and insiders, who then give up valuable login credentials.
  • File Integrity Monitoring (FIM), Unified Threat Management (UTM), and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) should also be considered
  •
This article talks about how there is a serious concern in the hotel industry when it comes to credit card and identity theft. They talk about how all the major brands in the hotel industry were all victims of highly publicized, major breaches in the last year alone. Also, including airline and banks, hotels maintain a wealthy amount of database of personal and financial data. For example, with new technology systems being created, POS systems are a weak security point for many networks because they are constantly in use and are not always updated or even protected from vulnerabilities. The article talks about personal details for hotel guests are frequently stored in a variety of locations including restaurants, facilities, and government buildings, so hackers have a greater possibility to access your personal information. The bigger hotels are in more danger because of the volume of guests that come in and out of the location. Smaller hotels should be concerned not just about their security but also by ransomware, an increasingly favorable tactic to extort hoteliers by hackers who encrypt the hotels data making it inaccessible until ransom is paid for. I believe hotels need a toolbelt of various securtiy technologies that can be used to prevent future malicious attacks. I think by managing and implementing a firewall is essential which helps get rid of dangerous traffic from coming onto the network and preventing sensitive data from being hacked.

This article talks about the weakness and vulnerability of POS systems involving safety. It mentions the security breach that few companies, such as Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide (including their Westin, Sheraton and W Hotel brands), Hilton, Hyatt and the Trump Hotel, faced last year (2016) involving credit card fraud and identity theft through their POS systems. It mentions how point-of-sale (POS) systems are not complete safe and how vulnerable they are because they are constantly in use and aren't always patched, updated, or protected from vulnerabilities as frequently as required. It suggests that enterprises should outsource their cyber security management to minimize costs, considering that is extremely expensive to hire and retain IT security team.
  •
MOD 10: This article discusses the main tactics of cyber hackers that target hotels. Point of sale (POS) systems are easy targets for hackers due to their constant use during operation hours and because of that their security measures aren't always up to date. Hotels have large data banks since they're storing consumer profile information such as home addresses, phone numbers and credit card numbers. There's a large risk when it comes to security breaches within franchises because they have access to their parent company's regional, national and global systems. If their systems are hacked and breached, then that puts the whole system of the brand at risk. Security breaches within a system can also damage a brands reputation with the public. According to the article, "Recent major breaches at Fortune 500 companies and household names across the retail, restaurant and hotel sectors demonstrate that anti-virus, anti-malware and firewalls alone are not enough to secure businesses from the ever-evolving threat landscape." Smaller properties are even at a greater risk because not only do they have to monitor their compliance with PCI but also monitoring their security systems for their database and PMS system. Some of the recommended software's that should be used by hotels looking to be proactive with their company's cyber security is File Integrity Monitoring(FIM), Unified Threat Management(UTM), and Security Information and Event Management(SIEM).
  •
This article explores the different tactics hotels should use after a cyber attack. The article mentions several different type of attacks such as Phishing when hackers trick customers into giving up their login credentials. Ransomware, when hackers encrypt data making it unusable and inaccessible for the hotel. Not one solution but rather companies should be equipped with a series of technologies from firewalls to file monitoring programs. Some of these technologies, like SIEM requires an intelligent IT team to have the capabilities of analyzing and monitoring the reports produced. This may be more difficult for smaller businesses to implement and maintain.

How to Invest in Hotel Real Estate - CrowdStreet - 0 views

  • Commercial real estate investments are subject to shifts in supply and demand that can have a notable impact on net operating income, profitability and yield
  • hotels have the ability to mark rents to market on a daily basis. The upside of that flexibility is that hotels can quickly react to heightened demand and improving economic conditions and raise room rates as much and as fast as the market will bear.
  • The flip side of this fluidity is that hotels are more susceptible to operating fluctuations when compared to other asset classes.
  • ...21 more annotations...
  • Hotels are defined primarily by the services and amenities that they offer.
  • Full-Service
  • Limited-Service
  • Budget
  • Extended Stay
  • OTAs have had a major impact on how hotels are booked since their inception some twenty years ago
  • ADR = Room Revenue / Rooms Sold
  • RevPar = Occupancy Rate x ADR
  • The two core customer groups that fuel demand for hotel rooms are tourism and business travelers
  • Hotels have unique industry standard metrics to track performance and growth, which include average daily rates (ADR) and revenue per available room (RevPar)
  • Demand drivers can change as a metro grows.
  • The hotel industry has seen substantial change both in terms of how hotels are developed and used as well as how they are marketed. Most changes in use are rooted in the adoption of technology.
  • Hotels also can benefit from locations adjacent to or near convention centers.
  • illenials are driving changes in use of practically everything they touch and hotels are no exception. Through their desire for affordable yet “cool” hotels in urban locations, hotel brands have been rapidly evolving to deliver concepts that cater to their tastes
  • While some pundits argue that the Millenial hotel is a fad, it is nonetheless changing the industry landscape and bringing a new breed of hotel to a magnitude of urban destinations.
  • nother way in which technology is changing the use of hotels is by enabling guests to redefine the period of the traditional night stay.
  • These apps are yet another example of how technology can be used to generate efficiencies – in this case to fill intraday hotel vacancies that would otherwise go unused.
  • Anyone who has traveled for either business or pleasure can grasp the basic building blocks of a successful hotel investment, which include: product offering, service, location, and competitiveness.
  • It also doesn’t require an industry veteran to appreciate that investing in a five-star hotel doesn’t necessarily correlate to earning five-star returns.
  • The takeaway is that hotels across all categories and price points have their own market segments, competitive sets and corresponding metrics. The key is to conduct a comparative analysis amongst similar hotels in order to determine whether or not the subject asset stands to win greater than, equal to or less than its fair share of its market demand.
  • There are a variety of entry points into hospitality real estate investments with a host of strategies
  •
This article is very interesting because it breaks down everything about investing in the hospitality industry. Hospitality is one of the few properties that shift in supple and demand can be felt immediately. The article explains that hotels have no lease agreement so they are able to market on a daily basis. This is why they are able to raise the prices on the rooms. I really like how the article describes the key metrics used to evaluate hotel performance. The article also explains recent changes in the hospitality industry that have brought to the market new types of hotels. It is important to note that the two core customer groups that fuel demand are tourism and business travelers.

Walt Disney World Reportedly Considering Security Bypass Line For Annual Passholders Like TSA PreCheck - 0 views

  • Now, it appears as if WDW is toying with the idea of bringing in a TSA PreCheck-style line for Annual Passholders.
  • Earlier this year, Walt Disney World changed up how security was done with the checkpoints moving away from the front of Magic Kingdom. Now, the Transportation & Ticket Center and surrounding resorts have security checkpoints done there, and it has opened up the area in front of the park.
  • . Not only would this speed up the process for them, but it would take more out of the security lines and speed up everything for everyone as well.
  •
This article talks about something similar that was discussed in our security and emerging technology module video. In the video it is discussed that hotels want to avoid having visible lines of security so guests do not feel threatened. In this article, it states that Disney Land and Walt Disney World have been budgeting more money for safety. But now Disney is trying to focus on how to make security more effecient, for example, they have recently changed their security checkpoints location in order to make it flow better for guests. Now checkpoints have even gone further away from Magic Kingdom and starting infront of the Ticket Center that is miles away from the park entrance. I guess this is creating a sense of safety for the guests as well as faster lines. Disney is even going so far as creating a PreCheck line like TSA for annual passholders that would create less security lines.

Huddle House restaurant chain announces breach of POS system | ZDNet - 0 views

  •
Criminals compromised a third-party point of sale (POS) vendor's data system and utilized the vendor's assistance tools to gain remote access-and the ability to deploy malware-to some Huddle House corporate and franchisee POS systems," Huddle House said in a security alert listed on its front page.
  • ...1 more comment...
  •
Because the company has not finished its investigation, it currently doesn't know which locations had their POS systems compromised by hackers. Huddle House has asked all customers who used their credit or debit cards at any of its 341 locations between August 1, 2017, and February 1, 2019 (the date of the breach disclosure) to review their transaction history for any suspicious transactions.
  •
Huddle House said the malware deployed on its POS system was designed to collect data such as cardholder name, credit/debit card number, expiration date, cardholder verification value, and service code.
  •
Recently Huddle House's POS system was hacked by someone and it revealed thousands of customers debit and/or credit cards information. Hackers were able to take advantage of the software in the POS system by adding malware to different corporate and franchisee locations. Huddle House released a statement to customers to be aware of their credit card/debit accounts to make sure there's no suspicious activity. It's too early to tell if this security breach will affect pre-existing and new customers. Huddle House will need to implement a security software patch, or consider changing its POS systems.

Marriott Bringing Beacons To 500 Hotels By The End Of 2016 | - 0 views

This article spoke about how Marriott had given proximity marketing an initial try in 2014, and how it was so successful, they decided to bring it to an extra 500 of their hotels in 2016. They originally started with this technology to see who they targeted most effectively. Once they saw how successful it became in driving sales, they started to improve their offerings, by adding promotions tailored to locations, from local food to spa services. Overall, Marriott believes its no longer about how loyal a consumer is to a brand, but how loyal a brand is to their consumers.

Due to the growth and advancement of technology, businesses have been able to grow in ways bigger than ever before. As we all know, e-commerce has become more popular today and is taking over many industries now. In this article, it discusses how this trend of e-commerce is extremely innovative and is proven to be a good alternative to the normal ways of business is usually conducted. Just to name a few things, conducting business via the internet saves tons of money. Customers are now able to shop and add items directly into a virtual cart instead of it been a paper trail of the items that are attempted to be purchased. Also, in addition what was mentioned above, e-commerce has opened up new and better channels for communication that can occur faster. Convenience is another key role that e-commerce plays in this. "No longer do people have to wait for stores to open". Patrons can now shop whenever they want to due to online shopping and have the items shipped directly to their home. Which leads me to say that this also is way that reduces cost and save money, especially for small businesses.Last but not least, without a doubt, it is pretty evident that e-commerce create different and many avenues of ways for money to be made. All in all, e-commerce is relevant in today's industry and many other businesses and these are the advantages that allow for it to thrive as it does.

My company works specifically in the short term rental space, and I wanted to comment on number 9 and offer some insight and results from properly managing your email list. First and foremost, having an email list increases return customers to your platform or rental site by over 300%. Most companies in this space have spent countless hours creating and defining specific messages to potential guests, which begin from the first time they visit the site, all the way until they checkout. Each time these touch points, through email or other communications, increase the likelihood of the guest to use the rental company, condo association, or hotel year in and year out. A new method of communication that is being used industry wide is through text messaging. I believe that this form of e-commerce will enable faster delivery of information to customers and allow managers to personalize experiences at the hotel or property. This follows along the lines of remote locks and other services that are technology based rather than requiring personnel to execute, greatly reducing overhead costs.

Proximity Marketing: Ultimate guide to proximity advertising in 2019 - 0 views

  •
This article talks about how to come up with the ultimate proximity advertising. Proximity marketing refers to communicating with customers at the right place, the right time, and with highly relevant and personalized messages, on their smartphones - be it greeting at the entry points, special offers in the store aisles, or getting feedback on a new product. Businesses, especially retail and real estate, have been focussing immensely on location for the last decade. This is because reaching out to customers without being sure of the location is just digital marketing, which is not very practical for local businesses. However, marketers and business owners now realize that the targeting needs to be more specific than just GPS and geofencing. location-based marketing, in simple terms, means communicating with potential customers within a range.

Luis, I like this read. It makes some great points of how the investment of a POS is profitable for the establishment. One thing I did not realize that it is great for is to better track sales and promotions. This is an area that could really assist on driving sales with an establishment. If they analyze the data collected, the owner can know if the promotion was worth their wild OR a waste of time. Did it drive business and bring in new and repeat guests? Did it attract loyal customers? Did it help make new customers loyal? This is all information that is collected and can be very useful when using the POS. Thank you for your share.
