A Green Computer System In Your Hotel - 1 views

  • With a high speed internet connection and up to ten monitors and keyboards per CPU, you can enter the internet society world. This could beat offering a wireless internet service as far as computer and internet security goes, as well as keeping the connection speed strong. It's a green system because of the resources saved by not producing as many CPUs and because of the energy conservation you experience by running fewer computers.
  • If you have a high speed internet connection, you can provide internet service to your guests and clients with this internet portal and workstation system. Put the power of a desktop PC at your guests fingertips.
  • This new computer networking solution is being marketed as a green action. There is clearly a green component involved. With only one CPU instead of ten, you save on plastics and electronics, thereby saving resources. And you save energy in the process too -- energy conservation from beginning to end is a component of sustainability.

  • One problem this helps to solve is the challenge of providing a reliable wifi connection to your guest rooms. Sometimes the signal is too poor to be of any service to guests on their personal laptop computers. Sometimes the connection gets overloaded with users so it's ineffective for everyone. If some of your guests are using your computer system, the internet load is taken off the wifi connection so people using it have better service.
  •
As this article mentioned, we are striving for the goals that makes the Internet available to our guests and environmentally sensitive. Because it does not produce many CPUs and can run fewer computers for conserving the energy. It can save resources. This article introduces a green system. With only one CPU instead of ten, you save a lot of resources and energy. In my opinion, I like this idea. It can provide more convenient and better service to customers and save resources and energy. In addition, if we can provide a reliable WIFI connection to our guest rooms, people can be more comfortable to use it.

Bartech NeoTray Provides Safe and Convenient Point-of-Sale for Generating Post-COVID Guestroom Revenue - 1 views

  • Las Vegas - Bartech, the leader in automatic minibar solutions for the global hospitality industry, is fulfilling a growing need in the post-COVID 19 hotel environment through its proprietary NeoTray solution, which allows non-refrigerated items to be securely offered to hotel guests through an automated point-of-sale within the safety of the guestroom. As hotels worldwide seek out ways to continue to provide for guests' needs in the new socially distanced travel experience, Bartech's NeoTray provides a solution for presenting non-traditional items for purchase, such as PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) like masks and hand sanitizer to help ensure guest health and safety.
  • Bartech's NeoTray is an ideal solution to this new guestroom-centric travel experience, allowing the property to generate much-needed in-room revenue, while offering a convenient and valuable guest service. With a clear, protective sealed lid, the NeoTray allows products to be attractively and conveniently displayed to encourage purchase, optimizing the potential for in-room revenue. The unit can also be sanitized and visibly sealed with a sticker to provide added guest assurance and confidence in the property's commitment to their wellbeing.
  • The NeoTray utilizes Bartech's industry-leading automatic minibar technology, enabling wireless communication via Wi-Fi or the built in ZigBee antenna. This wireless operation allows usage data to be sent directly from the unit to the hotel's Property Management System (PMS), providing a digital record of any openings of the sealed unit. In this way, only the units that have been opened need to be serviced and cleaned between guest stays, minimizing staff visits to the guestroom. This promotes less physical contact between guests and staff, while minimizing labor costs and further ensuring guest safety. All charges are posted in real time to the guest folio within the PMS, ensuring accurate charges at checkout.

Event App Security: Access & Data Privacy Best Practices - EventMobi - 1 views

  • Due to heightened sensitivity around data breaches and privacy, event planners are having to pay special attention to how their technology vendors—like event app providers such as EventMobi—are using and storing their event data.
  • Provide passcodes for private events. Requiring participants have a passcode to log into an event app allows planners to limit access to only those people they share the passcode with, such as a list of registrants.
  • Restricting app access to registered participants only (based on their email address) ensures the greatest control over event details and participant listings by locking out anyone not registered to attend.
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • Aside from ensuring your event app provider is security-conscious, it’s important to consider implementing processes that mitigate risk around how other vendors and/or your employees access or use event participant data.
  •
This article tells about how important the security features are for the event registration software and apps. The authors tells what security ensuring procedures have to be implemented in the apps, what kinds of information should the attendees agree to before signing up and the regulations that have to followed by the event planners using the event apps.
  •
This article is a piece of nice introduction on how to protect event information security with apps. It gives us an insight of how event planners can set the registration system and limit access of the participants to protect privacy. Besides the settings and consideration of the system (app) itself (like the provider of the app and their policies) and the privacy policies, this article also mentions other considerations like Wi-Fi security, employee training and limited information access.

This article i believe is a perfect example of how technology changes can be scary but sometimes they can take your business or industry to the next level. In the world we live in, that technology advances each and every day we need to come to grips that these type of additions are what can contribute to changing the way customers share their experiences for the better. The article states how other multi million dollar companies have contacted Disney about the technology proving the impact things like this can have with businesses across the world.

  • Oracle OPERA is a cloud-based property management system that integrates several functionalities into a single platform.
  • In addition to the core property management functionality, such as room assignments, check-in/check-out, and rate management, OPERA includes integrated channel and rate management with group travel functionality to handle more complex requests.
  • While OPERA can be used for a single property, it’s built with multi-property in mind.
  • Since OPERA is an integrated platform, hotels with more complex operations stand to benefit the most. For example, a hotel that uses Oracle POS (point of sale) and kitchen management can integrate full F&B operational functionality into the OPERA property management system. Such deep integration improves outcomes on the customer service front and gives hotel management stronger reports to monitor KPIs and profitability.

Artificial intelligence is evolving all by itself | Science | AAAS - 1 views

  •
According to the article Artificial intelligence is evolving all by itself, researchers have created software that borrows concepts from Darwinian evolution, including "survival of the fittest," to build AI programs that improve generation after generation without human input. In recent years, scientists have sped up the process by automating some steps. But these programs still rely on stitching together ready-made circuits designed by humans. That means the output is still limited by engineers' imaginations and their existing biases. The program discovers algorithms using a loose approximation of evolution. It starts by creating a population of 100 candidate algorithms by randomly combining mathematical operations. It then tests them on a simple task, such as an image recognition problem where it has to decide whether a picture shows a cat or a truck. This article was very informative and shows lots technological advances towards artificial intelligence.

Why Your Hotel Can't Afford Not to Embrace Mobile Technology - Jonas Chorum - 0 views

  • As technology continues to advance on daily basis, it is imperative that hotels remain on the forefront of this evolution to meet the ever-changing needs of both their guests and staff members.
  • One of the main reasons often comes down to cost and justifying an investment in new technology.
  • For hotels to remain competitive and continually attain positive guest ratings, the urgency to implement a mobile-friendly, cloud-based property management software solution has never been greater.
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • This generally leads to a ‘wait and see’ approach, which can often have major consequences that ends up resulting in a hotel quickly falling behind the industry standard.
  • as trends shift towards mobility, both from a guest and employee perspective, hotels may fall out of favor with guests who are looking for a more modern experience and may also have a hard time attracting new staff members.
  •
This article discusses how it is imperative that the hospitality industry avoids the "wait and see" approach to stay relevant. It is believed that guests are now looking for that more modern experience when staying at hotels and endure the thought of having access to anything and everything necessary at the tip of their fingers - house keepings, check-in, check-out, etc. It is said that if the hospitality industry does not keep up with the evolving technology is it set for a negative impact on business.

New Distribution Capability (NDC) in air travel: Airlines, GDS and the impact on the industry - 0 views

  • New Distribution Capability (NDC) in air travel: Airlines, GDS and the impact on the industry By Altexsoft Team On Mar 3, 2019
  • Two fundamental needs connect all airlines: revenue and passenger satisfaction.
  • Considering that getting in touch with the end user is nearly impossible via the channels provided by global distribution systems (or GDSs), a new standard emerged to resolve the issue. The air travel industry confronted big changes when the New Distribution Capability (or NDC) debuted in 2012. Lufthansa, British Airways, American Airlines, and Iberia were the first to adopt NDC. And the technology continues to make its way in airline distribution, as well as other means of improving airline operations.
  • ...9 more annotations...
  • NDC stands for the New Distribution Capability, which is essentially an XML standard created by the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) to allow airline service providers to deliver rich content and ancillaries to their customers.
  • Personalised shopping experience and access to customer information. Currently, most of the customer personal data remain in the hands of middlemen, OTAs and GDSs. This means that airlines get just basic information about their clients, which doesn’t allow for personalising the shopping experience, the thing that has become a standard in modern travel eCommerce.
  • Content and pricing autonomy.
  • Currently, most airlines publish their tariffs via ATPCO, the tech provider and main source of pricing data.
  • Rich content offers, ancillaries, and discounts. Distributing the flight data via GDS’s EDIFACT (Electronic Data Interchange for Administration, Commerce, and Transport), airlines are unable to include ancillaries in their offers.
  • Product differentiation. The traditional GDS model only permits airlines to display prices and schedules.
  • Reduced reliance on legacy systems. Most airlines use legacy passenger service systems (PSS) that contain reservation info, fares, and schedule.
  • As a result, NDC was supposed to break the oligopoly of GDSs that formed over time.
  • According to the latest IATA NDC program update, the list of certified deployments reached 65 carriers. The number seems to have grown significantly since 2017 when IATA reported only 50 airlines adopting NDC. But, compared to the overall number of airlines connected to the major three GDSs, which is over 400, NDC adopters seem to be a minority.
  •
NDC or New Distribution Capability is a new subset within GDS systems to provide airlines with detailed information about customer in order to enhance the personalized service. NDC will be able to provide pricing independence and direction information to airlines about their passengers. The system is more flexible and accurate in order to improve the experience from what GDS would provide.
  •
This article tells us about a new communication protocol which is called NDC. NDC stands for the New Distribution Capability. You can also find some information about how airline distribution works in general.

Las Vegas casinos delayed their anticipated reopening by several days due to civil unrest and protesting. Digital marketing including a new ad campaign was ultimately pulled due to the heightened sensitivity surrounding recent events. Once the strip was eventually allowed to reopen, preliminary data was promising, but nowhere near pre-covid numbers, and capacity at resorts like MGM was being kept under 35% for the time being.

  • The new generation of web-based hotel PMS solutions addresses these issues. Their implementation requires no technical knowledge whatsoever and anyone with basic computer knowledge can handle them.
  • The best features of cloud solutions, therefore, include:
  • Zero CAPEX and no upfront investment
  • Easy to use plans that are pocket-friendly
  • Pay as you use plans that help hoteliers run technology only on OPEX
  • All the updates, upgrades, and maintenance are done automatically by the provider and there is no need to have an in-house team of IT experts to babysit your system.
  • Your hotel property management system needs to give you all the tools you need to manage data and operations without requiring any additional effort or investment on your part.

6 Geofencing Benefits for Your Business | By Paul Reyes-Fournier - Hospitality Net - 0 views

  • The basic idea behind geofencing is that you can customize your marketing message based on location.
  • Sending a message that tells people walking by that your business offers free Wi-Fi, especially if they are looking for Wi-Fi, drives people into your store. It shifts the message from being an advertisement into being a service. This also works for free samples and demonstrations of your product or service.
  • Geofencing is a new technology that enables businesses to directly market to consumers based on their location.
  •
I think Geofencing is extremely interesting. Although it's ultimately singling out a group of people and changing their marketing strategies to fit that group of people's interests, I think it reaches a larger audience this way by understanding what the people want to see rather than giving them advertisements they'll quickly scroll through.

What a perfect analogy - the MIS can be compared to the role of the heart in the body. While large corporations are able to afford this, what I would consider a luxury in my world, I think most Executives or Directors find themselves playing this role without the desire to, or the recognition - and of course not to the level a MIS can produce/process I am sure. The MIS holds so much weight, it really could make or break your fiscal year should the wrong decision be made. This article is great at summing up such an important and not really spoken about position.

Thank you for the great read. I enjoy how the article compares the MIS function to the heart in the body. With this direct comparison, we see how important MIS is to an organization. These systems ensure that data is properly collected and stored to be made available to any manager or executive level employee.

Agreeably, MIS is the heart to any successful business in today's era. MIS impact productivity and performance. Processing/filtering information which is transmitted into and out of one's business is key for reducing security breach.
