Excellent collection of websites which have been reviewed by subject specialists for use in research. A bit like what we do! LOL (as my students say...).

All new history is revisionist history. This only gets dicey with the Holocaust since Survivors use the term "revisionist" for deniers or justifiers of the Holocaust. As this definition shows, communist historians can be revisionists and right-wing historians can be revisionist. All historians should aim to be revisionist if they are writing for academics (i.e. journals) and not the general public, if not there really is no reason to publish and no reason why the historian's work should be published since it is not new and not "revising" what we already know.

A beautifully rendered 3D model of Constantinople in the year 1200 AD. It is divided into regions of the city and gives you an excellent idea of what the city looked like at street level.

A large collection of images of medieval manuscripts however you can't zoom to a close focus and there aren't translations, except for a brief description of what each page on the manuscript contains.

Not easily browseable however you can search the collection, so I guess if you know what you're looking for it could be useful.

The LA84 Foundation has undertaken an ambitious project to convert portions of its traditional library collection to digital format. The growing digital collection now contains more than 300,000 pages, stored in over 75,000 PDF files.

I wonder what everyone else thinks of this type of criticism of education today. Are we watering-down the curriculum due to ideological pre-occupations?

This is a little unusual. It's a site which uses the town of Puglia as a case study for kinship relations and marriage. Anyway, weirdness aside it has primary sources and that's what we're about.

What an excellent resource! It has a funky interactive map with little information windows that pop up as you mouse over them, and then if you click it gives you more detailed information. Definitely useful for student research or a classroom activity. The maps are quite beautiful.

A primary source archive based around the materials that were in a museum in New York that burnt down in the nineteenth century. That sounds really wrong but it's what I got from the site. Focussed on the nineteenth century.

Interviews with 17 great history teachers. What an excellent idea! The most I have ever learnt about teaching was from watching exceptional teachers, so this should be useful.

What an excellent find! Ancient Roman recipes. I couldn't find any containing the infamous garum (fermented fish oil) but there was still some weird stuff. Guess every country has its weird food (kimchi for Koreans, Vegemite for us). Anyway thank God the Europeans discovered the Americas or we'd still be eating this stuff. Yuck.

Run by the University of North Carolina.

What a fascinating blog! It's a collection of extremely interesting maps. Definitely interesting for a discussion or stimulus item in class. I'll try to find his sources (assuming gender there again... sorry)
