A useful overview of the importance of research in high school history and how it is generally structured in Queensland. Relates particularly to the QLD syllabus but other jurisdictions may find it interesting. Research is particularly emphasised in our current curricula here at the moment. Thanks Lisa!

Home - Journalist's Resource Journalist's Resource: Research for Reporting, from Harvar... - 1 views

  •
"Based at Harvard's Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy, the Journalist's Resource project examines news topics through a research lens. We surface scholarly materials that may be relevant to media practitioners, bloggers, educators, students and general readers. Our philosophy is that peer-reviewed research studies can, at the very least, help anchor journalists as they navigate difficult terrain and competing claims. In 2013 the American Library Association named us one of the best free reference Web sites."

A Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations Turabian Quick Guide Kate L. Turabian's Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations presents two basic documentation systems: notes-bibliography style (or simply bibliography style) and author-date style (sometimes called reference list style). These styles are essentially the same as those presented in The Chicago Manual of Style, sixteenth edition, with slight modifications for the needs of student writers. Bibliography style is used widely in literature, history, and the arts. This style presents bibliographic information in footnotes or endnotes and, usually, a bibliography.

Harvard Daguerreotypes: Intro #2 - 0 views

  •
It's hard to tag something like this well - sorry about that. Will be a diverse collection of images of US life from the mid-19th century.
  •
Since the invention of photography in 1839, libraries, museums, research institutes, and academic departments at Harvard and Radcliffe have created and collected photographs for use in research and instruction. Among these millions of images are more than 3,500 daguerreotypes, the first publicly-announced photographic process

The History Engine: Doing History with Digital Tools | Academic Commons - 0 views

'One of the primary goals of the History Engine project has been to design a research and writing exercise modest enough in its analytical scope and its length that it allows students to "do history" long before a senior seminar or capstone course. (Another important goal, discussed below, is to capture this research to amass a large history archive.) The History Engine is an online archive consisting of thousands of "episodes" written and contributed by undergraduates.'

The Holocaust by bullets - Shoah Memorial - Paris - 10 views

  •
Between 1941 and 1944, almost one and a half million Ukrainian Jews were assassinated when Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union. The immense majority was killed by Einsatzgruppen firing squads (mobile execution units in the East), Waffen SS units, the German police and local collaborators. Only a small minority was assassinated after having been deported to extermination camps. Since 2004, Father Patrick Desbois and the Yahad-In Unum research team regularly travel across the regions of Ukraine, intent on identifying and assessing every site in eastern and western Ukraine in which Jews were exterminated by mobile Nazi units during World War II.The exhibition at the Shoah Memorial, from the 20th of June, 2007 to the 6th of January, 2008, presents their ongoing research. By reconstituting the assassins' procedural methods, it provides one with a better understanding of how the genocide of Eastern European Jews was actually put into practice. It has finally become possible to preserve and respect the victims' burial places

Welcome to the Web site for A Student's Online Guide to History Reference Sources. Adapted from the appendixes in A Student's Guide to History, Eleventh Edition, this site guides you to some of the best tools available for the most common research areas.
  •
This site accompanies a book I bought recently and would highly recommend as a useful guide for high school history students. It contains research and writing style guides and heaps of online resources (which I'm going to add to the group anyway). It's written for introductory undergraduate students yet would be useful for senior high school history students and is written and organised clearly and effectively.

Character Strengths and Virtues (book) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The authors of the CSV mention the importance and power of strong, clear principles to any person The Character Strengths and Virtues (CSV) handbook of human strengths and virtues, by Christopher Peterson and Martin Seligman, represents the first attempt on the part of the research community to identify and classify the positive psychological traits of human beings.[1] In the same way that the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders is used to assess and facilitate research on mental disorders, the CSV is intended to provide a theoretical framework to assist in developing practical applications for positive psychology.[1] The CSV identifies six classes of virtue (i.e. "core virtues"), made up of twenty-four measurable character strengths. Digitised pamphlets from the period of the French Revolution. From what I can tell they're all in French. C'est la vie (I probably misspelt that).
