Der Giftpilz, the German word for toadstool, was a publication of Julius Streicher's publishing house. It was aimed particularly at kids, and was sometimes used in the schools. In each case, the caption under the picture is translated to the right. In several cases, there is a link to a translation of the story that accompanied the picture.
Parallel Archive (PA), an "invented" archive repository accessible for everybody wishing to upload primary sources, is developed by the Open Society Archives (OSA) at Central European University in Budapest, Hungary. PA is, "at once a personal scholarly workspace, a collaborative research environment, and a digital repository".
Has primary sources uploaded by people who have registered with the site in many European languages, including English.
Come to think of it, is English a European language anymore? Interesting...

This site accompanies a book I bought recently and would highly recommend as a useful guide for high school history students. it contains research and writing style guides and heaps of online resources (which I'm going to add to the group anyway). it's written for introductory undergraduate students yet would be useful for senior high school history students and is written and organised clearly and effectively.
Good example of using an LMS (Learning Management System [cool jargon to know!]) for a class. My school uses Moodle and BlackBoard is popular at Australian universities. I organise mine by lesson and direct the students to go through the materials before the lesson, usually podcasts, PowerPoints, links to a source site, etc, depending on what materials I'm using for the lesson. After the lesson I put the podcast of it up there for the students to use for revision, along with the notes they've taken during that lesson. Much more effective than a textbook, I reckon!
An excellent resource for teaching the history of the Indian Ocean Basin. It has some great flash-based maps where you can click on funky-looking icons and get some detailed historical information. Very Gen-Y friendly and there seemed to be some qualIty history in there.
The whole sIte too is based on a historiographic approach of understanding (and teaching) history as organised around oceans rather than continents or civilisations or periods. An interesting approach I think, especially for showing historical connections between otherwise distinct peoples.
Still into the wikis. This collection doesn't show evidence of much development yet, however it could grow into a quality collection in future. Some of the topics are a little obscure. 'A History of Nejd'. Not quite sure on that one.
It's not strictly speaking history-related however most of us also teach social studies or something similar and It was just too cool to pass up. An excellent way of demonstrating to students the issues regarding the current Western economic model and the Chimerica conundrum. Scary.
An interesting blog from Canada seeking to collect a, um, collection (it's the first day of the holidays and my frontal lobe still has not recovered from the marking season. Sorry...) of articles by historians which are relevant to the broader community. His argument that history has become too specialised and irrelevant is compelling. it gels with much of what I experienced at university, anyway. As I've said before, I use a blog reader (e.g. Google Reader, Bloglines) to collect these types of sites into one place. I get many of the sites I post to the group that way.
Has links to some example course documents from universities and a high school in America and Australia. I'm always interested in checking out how other people organise their courses; I'm redoing our Modern History Program at the moment. I prefer the chronological rather than thematic approach, although it seems it's going out of fashion these days.
Vincent Van Gogh's 902 letters from and to him, now available online freely. The letters are translated into English and richly annotated and illustrated with new transcriptions and translations edited by Leo Jansen, Hans Luijten and Nienke Bakker for the Vincent Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and the Huyghens Institute - KNAW.
Has headlines and links to sites on newsworthy historical topics. it doesn't look searchable though, which means the content might be a bit hit-and-miss.
Looks a bit more like a WebQuest type of site rather than a source collection, however has a timeline and some images. Seeings there is so little on the topic of New World colonisation generally I decided to add it.
I hadn't realised how much full text stuff is available from ERIC otherwise I would have added it sooner. Just do a full-text advanced search for 'history' and Bob's your uncle. it's always good to know what the smart people are saying we should be doing. I don't know about you though, but sometimes those smart people strike me as a little stupid...
Has plenty of links to sites with historical images; very useful when creating resources for classes. I'm into Wikimedia stuff tonight. Sorry if you hate it.
Ok, so this isn't a terribly serious nor detailed account of WWII. But it may help some of those students on the edge of oblivion if you know what I mean. :D
