The final videos can all be found here.  I hesitate to embed any in the post because I know I would be prone to pick the "best" one.  Please click on the link and randomly select one to watch! There are two pages of videos-and hey-leave a comment or a thumbs up!  I have to say, that after watching the kids make these, the final products just don't reflect the amount of work that is needed.  What I mean is that you shouldn't watch them and say "My kids could do that in a couple of days."  It took 360 minutes of class time to produce those 1-2 minute videos!! One thing I wished we had done is to write transitions so that the different videos linked together better.  I inadvertently led them to make videos on topics that come across as standing alone in time instead of being influenced and apart of other events and movements. As teachers, we are always searching for ways to make our classrooms "come alive." Google Earth has done this for us. Inspired by Kelly Tenkely's recent flight adventures using Google Earth, I decided to begin looking for ways to incorporate the idea of a virtual flight into our learning adventures. To give a little background, we are studying the Middle Ages this school year and are currently focusing on the Diaspora of the Jews after the destruction of the Temple by the Romans around 70 AD.

The essay contest for 2009-10 is not up yet, but the topic is the effectiveness of nonviolent civic action. My students participated last year when the topic was crimes against humanity and it lead to really great discussions.

The Lincoln Archives Digital Project started in 2002 with a simple idea for a vast undertaking: to digitize all federal records that exist from the administration of Abraham Lincoln.  Over 6,000 documents are currently online and over half a million documents are scanned and in the process of being placed online.  People from around the world now have access to the documents of  Abraham Lincoln's administration, including Civil War records.
