The Library's collection of more than 500 broadsides is one of the largest recorded and the first to be digitized in its entirety. The examples digitized here span the years 1707 to 1891 and include accounts of executions for such crimes as arson, assault, counterfeiting, horse stealing, murder, rape, robbery, and treason. Many of the broadsides vividly describe the results of sentences handed down at London's central criminal court, the Old Bailey, the proceedings of which are now available online at http://www.oldbaileyonline.org.

Na noite de ontem (26/10/2011), o clipe-montagem System of a Dilma alcançou os trending topics do Twitter. O vídeo mistura o clipe Chop Suey da banda armeno-americana System of a Down e um discurso de Dilma e Lula às vésperas das eleições presidenciais de 2010. Não sei se a intenção dos autores: FAROFF e Xandelay @djfaroff @xandelay foi apenas humor ou se eles quiseram fazer uma homenagem, mas o fato é que o vídeo ficou muito bem feito e foram escolhidas frases bem bonitas do discurso. Posto abaixo o video-montagem, o clipe Chop Suey original e por fim um dos meus clipes preferidos dessa banda: BOOM! em que aparecem cenas dos protestos mundiais contra a guerra do Iraque.

I love these podcasted lectures. I usually get them down through iTunes U or iTunes podcasts (free!) and then put them up on moodle (similar to BlackBoard) for students to download and listen to/watch for their homework/research. Parents get really impressed too when their little angel is listening to a Berkeley Uni lecture on their iPod! [(^).(^)]

Congress thinks people should know what's going on. I know, I'm skeptical, too. But they asked the Library of Congress to create this site where students can find out how government works or doesn't. Track bills, check up on your Congressman, or visit the LEARN section midway down the homepage for links to sections on how laws are made, how the Supreme Court works and a host of primary source documents sorted by theme: The American Revolution and New Nation; National Expansion and Reform; and Civil War & Reconstruction.

Let's take a walk down the memory lane. Remember the first time you learned to ride a bicycle? Or the first time you cooked something by yourself? Well, it obviously wasn't easy, especially when there was nobody to guide you. Now, imagine if there was someone who had guided you or told you how do cook or ride a bicycle? It'd be much easier, right? Similarly, while growing up students go through so much confusion when it comes to which career path to choose. Not only do they have troubles with their careers and streams but also go through an emotional and physical rollercoaster ride. There are different opinions that every individual has, hence each person is unique with their own set of interests, capabilities, pros, and cons. Money is not what defines a successful man, it is also about one's skills and talent, ability and passion. This is where career counselling comes into the picture.

Almost every US History teacher tells students about Manifest Destiny, boiling down an explanation of the term to about eight words in a bullet point of a 18 slides presentation that students dutifully copy and recognize out of four other distractors in a multiple choice question. This is the article the phrase comes from - teachers should be forced to read it and explain why they think their teaching of the phrase does any justice to history at all

Would be an excellent student activity if you lived in a country with a significant and extant material history. You register with this network and nominate run-down buildings that you and your students can then restore, under the guidance of these volunteers. I guess there are some ethical problems there, but it would still be a wonderful experience for the students.

I wonder what everyone else thinks of this type of criticism of education today. Are we watering-down the curriculum due to ideological pre-occupations?

A primary source archive based around the materials that were in a museum in New York that burnt down in the nineteenth century. That sounds really wrong but it's what I got from the site. Focussed on the nineteenth century.
