Title: Readings on the Development of Children Author: Mary Gauvain and Michael Cole Date Published: 2005 Why Relevant and Summary: This is relevant because it talks about the development of children and how Bronfenbrenner's theory applies to our lives. It goes through just like our human development book does and gives different examples so that you can better understand how each level applies to our life if we didn't understand it from our book. How This Influenced My Thinking: It doesn't influence my thinking because it gives the same information. What it does do is help me to understand the development in my own life and how I can better influence my children's development with this theory. Credibility of Source: Has some resources from Bronfenbrenner's books and articles. They are cited in this book.

Title: Bronfenbrenner Ecological Systems Model Author: Nicole Yingst Date Published: 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: This is relevant because it gives a clear and easy to understand definition of what the five environmental systems are and it connects it to how it relates adolescents. It gives an example of each system and it also talks about a personal experience of how a teacher relates the ecological system to her classroom How This Influenced My Thinking: It influenced my thinks by giving me a better understanding of the concept and it gives good examples Credibility of Source: Not too sure about the credibility because it doesn't say where its comes from

Title: Bronfenbrenner: Ecological Systems Model Author: Nicole Yingst Date Published: 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: Provides a detailed explanation of Bronfenbrenner's ecological theory and all the different components/levels in it. How This Influenced My Thinking: Encouraged a recognition of the presence of Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems in my own life and in my own experiences. Credibility of Source: BSU

Title: Urie Bronfenbrenner and Child Development Author: Angela Oswalt Date Published: Jan. 17, 2008 Why Relevant and Summary: This page is relevant because it speaks of Urie Bronfenbrenner's model of development. The main focus is on child and adolescent development. It compares Urie's model to other theoris of development. This is a great starting point if you want to learn about Freud, Erikson, Piaget, Kohlberg and Urie Bronfenbrenner. How This Influenced My Thinking: From this model I understood that how a child develops is influenced from the systems in the child's life. However, when taking microsystem into consideration and the important people in the child's life, the way the child acts towards the microsystem (people) also influences how those people will act towards the child. Credibility of Source: No citations or references. Came from a mental help site.

Title: Urie Brofenbrenner and Child Development Author: Angela Oswalt Date Published: updated 2008 Why Relevant and Summary: It covers the systems and what they are, and gives clear examples. How This Influenced My Thinking: This entry helped me understand the systems a bit better. Credibility of Source: its a 17 page document covring many ideas and theories, it has many links connected to it.

How This Influenced My Thinking: This article helped me better understand what happens in each level because Oswalt gave examples of things that occur in every level. Title: What Influences Child Development? Author: Chaplinspeaks Date Published: March 24, 2012 Why relevant and Summary: While not necessarily referring to Bronfenbrenner's model specifically, she hit all of the same points as used in his model. She went into much more depth explaining not only the influences but also why it is likely to influence a child's development. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article didn't influence my thinking one way or another, because I found the same information in our textbook, but it did help me to understand the model in more depth because she thoroughly explained everything. Credibility of Source: I feel like this source is very credible. She has a MSW and seems to be very knowledgable and has done her research.

Title: Ecological Systems Author: David Nollmeyer Date Published: n.d. Why Relevant and Summary: Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Theory is clearly stated and explained with examples. The analogies and summaries were helpful to understand the ecological systems better. How This Influenced My Thinking: This journal helped me understand everything a little bit better to where I can think more. I was able to actually think about what I wanted to say and how to say it without being blocked from the unknowns. Credibility of Source: This journal pulled information from other resources and cited them. So I believe it is credible.

It also uses examples to help understand. How this influenced my thinking: I was able to get more in depth with the theory. Credibility: seems credible there is a lot of information.

Date Published:7-31-2012 Why Relevant and Summary: It talks about puberty and how obesity can affect it, as well as possibly negative health correlations linked to early start of puberty. How This Influenced My Thinking: it simply coincided with what i already believed to be possibly true. Credibility of Source: from the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine in Oregon.

Title: Bronfenbrenner's Theory- youtube (video) Author: kleinen2012 Date Published: April 8, 2009 Why Relevant and Summary: This video was produced by a Human Development student, and gives a great summary of Brofenbrenner's model, along with sharing clear and relevant diagrams and definitions. For the audio-visual learner, this is a great resource for gaining basic understanding of Brofenbrenner's Ecological Model. How This Influenced My Thinking: It helped me, as an auditory learner to better absorb the information. Credibility of Source: 8; It lists her references at the end of the video.

How this influenced my thinking: I was able to get a more in depth understanding of Bronfenbrenners theory on influential factors that determines a child developmental outcomes. Credibility: it was a UW-Extension ABC project

Bouchard Jr. Date Published:1998 Why Relevant and Summary: Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Theory is clearly stated and explained with examples. The analogies and summaries were helpful to understand the ecological systems better.  How This Influenced My Thinking: This discussed the differences between genetic and environmental factors affecting a persons behaviors. Credibility of Source: Very credible.  Lots of information and authors as well as dates

Title: Nature vs. Nurture: Two Brothers With Schizophrenia Author: Norman, L., Keltner, C., James, R., Darling, L., Oliver, K. Date Published: 2001 Why Relevant and Summary: This article is very relevant because it discusses how nature and nurture can play a role in the human development. The authors do so by discussing how schizophrenia can be both due to nature and nurture by giving examples. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article showed me how both nature and nurture can effect the human development and we cat rule out one for the other. Credibility of Source: This source was found on ebscohost and is from the journal "Perspectives in Psychiatric."

Title: Habituation in infant cognition Author:Nicholas Turk-Browne, Brian Scholl, and Marvin Chun Date Published: Dec. 2, 2008 Why Relevant and Summary:This research article goes over the basic principles of habituation and dishabituation. It also covers experiments performed and breaks them down to show how infants react to stimuli for periods of time. How This Influenced My Thinking: This reinforced my beliefs on habituation and dishabituation and increased my knowledge on the subject. Credibility of Source:Uses references and research so it is pretty reliable

It also walks through the different stages of attachment and where children are at in different points in their lives How This Influenced My Thinking: I felt like it gave a little more information and helped to clear some things up that I was wondering about in the textbook. Credibility of Source: pretty good, well written and well cited information in the article.

Title: Attachment Theory Author: Saul McLeod Date published: 2009 Why Relevant and Summary: This article describes the theory of attachment well and the different stages of attachment. How this influenced my thinking: I found it very interesting that Bowlby thought that there is a link between separations with the mom at an early age and maladjustments later on. Credibility of Source: It is from the simply psychology website, seems credible.

Title: Social Development Author: Growing Miracles Date Published: 2010 Why Relevant and Summary: It's relevant because it talks about the social development and all the aspects of what a toddler learns in this stage of life. It talks about communicating, sharing, putting the child in home settings and setting limits for the child. How This Influenced My Thinking: It influences my thinking because it makes me want to go back to when my children were small so that I can teach them differently than how they were taught. Credibility of Source: I think it's credible because even though it was reprinted with permission, the information is similar to that of research.

How this influenced my thinking: This influenced my thinking because I hadn't realized how important attachment is to a child.

It gives several examples on how to make your child grateful for everything and in the process it also helps children to be more social and overcome shyness. How this influenced my thinking: This article was very helpful. I was aware of all of the examples but it definitely made me put in action the examples whenever I have a toddler, because I definitely want them to be well educated and respectful.
