Title: Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development Author: Devan Udall Date Published: June 25, 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: The information provided in this video is a clear, factual presentation of Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development. In chapter eight of our Human Development textbook we will be discussing adolescence and will go over theories surrounding morality, Kohlberg's Theory of Moral Development is one of them. This video gives a brief introduction to Kohlberg's research and professional career. It presents The Stages of Moral Development as well as recorded interviews illustrating the Heinz Dilemma experiment. How This Influenced My Thinking: I found this reference video supporting some of my theories surrounding moral development. However, as I was doing more research I realized how many variables were not being considered in Kohlberg's Theory of Moral Development. As I challenged Kohlberg's theory on its broader application I thought about what research methods could be used to provide supportive evidence. Credibility of Source: I have found additional reference material that supports the information provided in this video.

Title: Identity Formation in Adolescence: Change or Stability? Author:Klimstra, Hale, Raaijmakers, Branje, and Meeus Date Published: February 27, 2009 Why Relevant and Summary: This is a relevant article because it shows research done on comparing weather identity formation is stable in adolescence or is it progressively changes. It refers to Erikson's theory as well as theorys from Waterman and Van Hoof. How This Influenced My Thinking: This has influenced my thinking by introducing me to new identity theories and exploring those theories and ideas more indepth. Credibility of Source: This is a credible source since it has many references to all the information provided and the article tells who the authors are and dates published.

Title: Ecological Systems Author: David Nollmeyer Date Published: n.d. Why Relevant and Summary: Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Theory is clearly stated and explained with examples. The analogies and summaries were helpful to understand the ecological systems better. How This Influenced My Thinking: This journal helped me understand everything a little bit better to where I can think more. I was able to actually think about what I wanted to say and how to say it without being blocked from the unknowns. Credibility of Source: This journal pulled information from other resources and cited them. So I believe it is credible.

Title: Ecological Systems Author: David Nollmeyer Date Published: N.D. Why Relevant; The reason why this is relevant is because it goes in depth of the five levels. It also uses examples to help understand. How this influenced my thinking: I was able to get more in depth with the theory. Credibility: seems credible there is a lot of information.

Title: What Influences Child Development? Author: Chaplinspeaks Date Published: March 24, 2012 Why relevant and Summary: While not necessarily referring to Bronfenbrenner's model specifically, she hit all of the same points as used in his model. She went into much more depth explaining not only the influences but also why it is likely to influence a child's development. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article didn't influence my thinking one way or another, because I found the same information in our textbook, but it did help me to understand the model in more depth because she thoroughly explained everything. Credibility of Source: I feel like this source is very credible. She has a MSW and seems to be very knowledgable and has done her research.

Title: Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems Theory Author: John Ryan Date Published: N.D. Why Relevant and Summary: Because it explains the Ecological system and it shows a nice picture of it. How This Influenced My Thinking: It gave a good definition of it and the picture if fun. Credibility of Source: It had resources from the book we are using.

Title: Genetic and Environmental  Influences  On Human Behavioral Differences Author: David Matt McGue and Thomas J. Bouchard Jr. Date Published:1998 Why Relevant and Summary: Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Theory is clearly stated and explained with examples. The analogies and summaries were helpful to understand the ecological systems better.  How This Influenced My Thinking: This discussed the differences between genetic and environmental factors affecting a persons behaviors. Credibility of Source: Very credible.  Lots of information and authors as well as dates

Title:Environmental Causes of Human Congenital Malformations: The Pediatrician's Role in Dealing With These Complex Clinical Problems Caused by a Multiplicity of Environmental and Genetic Factors Author:Robert L. Brent Date Published:April 1, 2004 Why Relevant and Summary: Contains information on teratogens from various kinds to what malformations they can cause in the body. This article starts off by describing the criteria to be classified as a teratogen. There are three categories of congenital malformations: unknown, genetic, and environmental. The severity of effects of teratogen are determined by time of exposure and amount of exposure or threshold dose. How This Influenced My Thinking: There are specific criteria in order to be classified as caused by teratogen. Credibility of Source: The source is highly credible. It comes from the Journal of American Academy of Pediatrics.

Title: Genes vs. Environment Author: University of Edinburgh Date Published: May 16, 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: This article provides information on over 800 sets of experiments that were done to prove how genes played a more important role in development than the environment. How This Influenced My Thinking: This made me want to conduct my own research or do my own study on twins who were separated at birth to see how identical their characteristics were after five or ten years of being apart. That would help me see for myself if genetics really do have a greater inpact than environment does on development. Credibility of Source: This source is credible because the information was derived from universities, journals, and other research organizations and they have references to all the information they used.

Title: Breastfeeding vs. Bottle feeding Author: American Pregnancy Association Date Published: Last Updated 01/13 Why Relevant and Summary: This website is very easy to understand. It briefly states the pros and cons of breastfeeding and bottle feeding. This site will be very helpful if one is doing their paper on Breastfeeding and culture. How This Influenced My Thinking: I took a child development class a few years ago, so this article definitely helped me remember the pros and cons of breastfeeding and bottle feeding. Credibility of Source: This website is from the American Pregnancy Association so I definitely think this page is credible due to the name of the site and because it is an organization.

Title:Childbirth Options: What's the Best? Author: Brenda Conway Date Published: N.D. Why Relevant and Summary: This is a great article explaining the many different birthing options. It also gives pros and cons of each. How this influenced my thinking: I didn't realize there were so many options available with a hospital birth. Credibility of Source: The article was from Web M.D. so i think it is very credible.

Title: Breastfeeding and Human Lactation Author: Jan Riordan Date Published: 1998 Why Relevant and Summary: This ebook is very relevant because it discusses how different culutres choose to breastfeed or not and how other cultures can determine if they will breastfeed or not. This ebook gets more in detail but from my reading (pgs. 716-719) it covers background information and provide examples on which culture breastfeed why or why not. How This Influenced My Thinking: This has influence my thinking because I subconsciously didn't realized why most people didn't breast feed besides it just being a trend. Credibility of Source: This is credible because it is a published book.

Title: Breast vs. Bottle for Feeding Your Baby Author: Roy Benaroch Date Published: Last revised July 2012 Why relevant and Summary: It is relevant because it discusses the difference between breastfeeding and bottle-feeding. It gives a detailed list of the advantages of breastfeeding. How This Influenced My Thinking: This influenced my thinking because now I fully know the advantages and disadvantages of breastfeeding and bottle feeding. Credibility of Source: It seems credible it was revised only a couple of months ago

Author: No Author Date Published: December 7, 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: This blog is very helpful because it explains the Bronfenbrenner's Theory in detail. It also gives examples of the five different concepts and applies it to adolescent's behavior. How This Influenced My Thinking: This blog helped me make the relationship between the five stages not only a child's perspective but in an adolescents perspective. Credibility of Source: I wouldn't call this blog very credible but it gives good examples of the five concepts of the theory.

Date published:2011 Why Relevant and Summary: This article describes how common co-sleeping is and how to decide if it is a good idea for your family. How this influenced my thinking: This really explained how important it is to make sure co-sleeping is right for both you and your significant other. Credibility of Source: From Babycenter, seems credible

Title:12 Ways to Give Birth Author:BabyZone Editors Date: nd Why relevant and summary: this website gives the reader 12 different ways of childbirth and briefly summarizes them. Although its helpful when deciding on what types of childbirths to use it does not go into too much detail about each of the methods.

Title: 12 ways to give birth Why relevant and summary: This website discusses 12 different way to give child birth and what is involved with each of these ways. It is relevant to "child birth and culture" because it goes over different methods of birth that not only American cultures use, but other cultures as well. There is a lot of interesting information that is provided in the website and it's also very insightful. author: Baby zone editors Date published: ND How this influenced my thinking: This article really opened my eyes to various types of child birth and the pros and cons that each one has. I had never really considered any other type of birth besides medicated birth in a hospital, but it was very interesting to read about the benefits of water birth. Credibility of source: The source seems to be credible. It was written by the editors of Disney.

Title: Methods of Childbirth Author: Web M.d Date Published:n.d Why Relevant and Summary: This website shows an overview of the most common form of labor and delivery. It gives examples of methods use to deliver a baby. How This Influenced My Thinking: Although i was aware of this form of childbirth method, I was not aware of the terminology that doctors use, and how complex childbirth actually is. It has open my eyes to the variety of methods. Credibility of Source: This source was somewhat credible. This website is useful if wanting to get an overview of the topic or if one is new to topic. This source is a good way to begin with research, however more extensive research should be done.

Title: Prenatal Massage - Many Benefits for Mom and Baby Author: Caroline Vigery, CMT Date Published: September 12, 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: This article explains the many benefits for both mother and baby from receiving Prenatal Massage. For mom it includes relaxation and stress reduction, reduction of pain and strains, improvement of blood circulation, preparation for labor, and improvement of respiratory and GI functions. Baby also receives improved blood circulation, healthy tissue, flexible joints and muscles during the pregnancy and labor. How This Influenced My Thinking: Prior to finding this article, I did not know that this was something that mothers did to improve health during pregnancy. I think that it is a great idea and I plan to receive massages too if and when I am pregnant. Credibility of Source: Pretty credible, it is a yoga business so they are more likely to point out the positive effects to make more business, but the article seems thorough and well written.

Title:The Preschool Years: Physical & Cognitive Development Author:Robert Feldman Date Published:n.d Why Relevant and Summary: This is relevant because it talks about the physical aspect of a toddlers early development. As well as their brain development, what you can and should not do. How This Influenced My Thinking: This made me realize that toddlers and infants are so complex because they can be affected really easy and it can transition into adulthood. Credibility of Source:Seems pretty credible, the author works for prentice hall. It is also based off of another resource.
