Title:Why I Love My 50-Year-Old Body Date Published: January 7, 2013 Author: Dr. Lisa Kaplin Why Relevant and Summary: this article is relevant because it talks about the body at age 50. it tell people to love their body and not to discourage or be ashamed of it. it explains how to maintain being healthy and hoe to eat right at 50. it is a useful article for those who have body image issues at an older age. How This Influenced My Thinking: this made me realize that people have major body image issues even after they are older. it makes me stop and think that even through all that these older folk have been through, somehow the image that is distilled on the younger generation caught up to the older generation and made them want to be in their 20's all over again when their bodies were at the peak of being viewed as beautiful. Credibility: it was published by a doctor who has study within this field. seem pretty credible to me.

How this Influenced my Thinking: This was a very insightful article on why most elder people would rather be cared for in home versus in a facility. Papalia Sally Wendkos Olds Ruth Duskin Feldman Date Published: 2004 Why relevant and summary: This is just a really great outline from a McGraw Hill Human Development Textbook. It is a free, online student resource. It touches on all aspects of life in middle adulthood, and provided a good reference point when interviewing my friend's 57 year old mother for the survey. How this influenced my thinking: No one likes to think about aging, let alone the fact that we will all eventually grow old. When we are in our 20s and 30s, reaching middle adulthood seems far off, but the truth is, time passes by quickly and aging is inevitable. This outline is a starting point for further research, and is good guidance for seeking information on what life in middle adulthood is like for the general population.

This article has a real life perspective of people going through the motions of caring for and making decisions for their elderly parents. Times of caring for the parents were described in depth from the perspective of the adult caregiver. This article gives a great outlook on the emotional roller coaster that the adult caregiver goes on and how this affects her deeply. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article made me really think about how difficult it would be to care for an elderly adult that is affected by dementia or Alzheimer's disease. Having to make the decision to put your parent in a home that offers better care than you can must be a devastating heart wrenching decision that must be made . Credibility of Source: no

Title:Selective optimization with compensation Author: many Date published:1999 Why relevant and summary: This site is a wikipedia psychology site that provides the reader with an explanation of what SOC is. It also gives a great example of a 75 year man who tries to maximize his cognitive resources. Further more, it breaks down the word 'selective optimization with compensation' and tells you what each word implies on its own, and how all the words as a whole make up the meaning of the theory. How this influenced my thinking: This influenced my thinking by providing me with a great example of SOC in a way that really helped my understanding of it. The idea of SOC makes perfect sense and i can see why psychologists use it when they are talking about successful aging. Credibility of source: I feel like the site was pretty credible. Along with the breakdown it gave clear examples of how someone in each of the different stages would react which helped me relate the stages to situations. This gave me a better understanding of each of the stages. It was helpful in writing my paper. How This Influenced My Thinking: The examples that are given are short statements that provide excellent examples of what they described in each stage explanation.
