It was a sweet resource to be able to use for my paper and was very relevant to it. How This Influenced My Thinking: The reason for why it should be done never even crossed my mind! Title: The signs of a heart attack in women over 50 date: 01/05/2010 author: Sherril Steel-Carlin Why relevant and summary: This was a short article articulating what women over 50 should know to prevent a heart attack or get help as soon as they feel the first signs. In the recent disease heart attack are the number one killer of women and most of them can be prevented if we recognize the early symptoms. how has this influenced my thinking: Even though I am not quite that old, I do have an aging mother and mother in law, this is something that they need to be aware and my husband and I as well. Credibility: the article is published in a health and wellness online magazine, and even though the author is not a doctor, I am pretty sure she got her information for credible sources.

A few of the benefits that many agreed on were that there was better one on one care and that they were able to become closer to their families. How this Influenced my Thinking: This was a very insightful article on why most elder people would rather be cared for in home versus in a facility. Credibility: This website conducted research on this topic.

How this influenced my thinking: Helped me to look at what I can do now for future benefits. Credibility: No credibility shown but good information.

Title: Caregiving Support & Help: Tips for Making Family Caregiving Easier Date: last update April 2013 Author: Melinda Smith, M.A. and Jeanne Segal, Ph.D. Why relevant and summary: This was a very interesting article that outlined some of the challenges of being a caregiver and how to handle the situation. Some of the tips where practical like, exercise, eat healthy or get enough sleep to more specific which had to do with how to handle the emotional burden of the situation. How has this influenced my thinking: This article was very interesting for me, because I currently support my parents, even though they are in good health and able to take care of themselves, still some of the issues outline in the article apply to my situation as well. Source credibility: The article was publish on a government website and the authors are medical professionals.

Its origins, its beliefs, its counterarguments, etc. How This Influenced My Thinking: It introduced into the world of successful aging and got me thinking about a theory I've never even heard of. Credibility of Source: Had many links to other articles that may not have been super credible, but this article seemed legit.

The elderly begin to withdraw from activities they love because of an illness, for example. Little by little, they lose their independence and remove themselves from social networks. How this influenced my thinking:It's is sad to think that some elderly will withdraw themselves from society when they lose independence. It is important that as family, we keep in touch with our elderly family members and keep them as close to society as possible. Whether it be taking them to the park, grocery store, or just talking to them on a daily basis. Credibility of source: Seems credible. It includes all its sources.

Title:Selective optimization with compensation Author: many Date published:1999 Why relevant and summary: This site is a wikipedia psychology site that provides the reader with an explanation of what SOC is. It also gives a great example of a 75 year man who tries to maximize his cognitive resources. Further more, it breaks down the word 'selective optimization with compensation' and tells you what each word implies on its own, and how all the words as a whole make up the meaning of the theory. How this influenced my thinking: This influenced my thinking by providing me with a great example of SOC in a way that really helped my understanding of it. The idea of SOC makes perfect sense and i can see why psychologists use it when they are talking about successful aging. Credibility of source: I feel like the site was pretty credible. There were references but it was a wiki page

Why Relevant and Summary: An extensive and thorough explanation of what ADHD is, what the symptoms are, the different variations of it, solutions with which to combat it, medications to take, parenting tips, ADHD through the ages, coexisting conditions, etc. Very useful. How This Influenced My Thinking: It enhanced my knowledge and perception of ADHD and those who have ADHD... allowed me to relate it to my experience of having a sister with ADHD. Title:  Identity Development Throughout the Lifetime: An Examination of Eriksonian Theory Author: Justin T. Sokol Date Published: March 1, 2009 Why Relevant and Summary: Erikson's theories are relevant to almost all types of research on identity development. Identity development is a life-span process, as Eriksonian theories suggest. This particular publication is an in depth examination of Erikson's theories on identity development: identification in early childhood, Identity formation in adolescence, identity development in adulthood. How This Influenced My Thinking: I agree with the research: Identity development is an ongoing process that continues through adulthood. I see examples of this looking over my childhood, adolescence and adulthood so far. At 32 years old, I can honestly agree with Erikson's theories on identity development - I feel as though my identity (though does not change drastically anymore) certainly continues to develop. Credibility of Source:  This publication is from Graduate Journal of Counseling Psychology at Marquette University, so is likely highly credible

Why Relevant and Summary: This article is very relevant because it discusses what learning takes place within the womb and actually gives a great example of what a mother can do while she is pregnant to help this learning. How This Influenced My Thinking: It really helped me understand how learning can take place within the womb. Credibility of Source: It seems credible!! Just a website, though.

Title: Importance of prenatal sound and music Author: Giselle E Whitwell Date Published: It doesn't say Why Relevant and Summary: This was an amazing article! It was talking about the sound decibel of conversations or music outside of the womb. She goes to talking about how a baby might respond when the mother is in a certain environment and sometimes, what the effects may be after birth. How This Influenced My Thinking: While some of this is common knowledge, I never really knew or understood the importance of sound and how detrimental it can be in later stages of childhood. I see it now in my own children. I played a lot of music when I was pregnant and my kids love listening to it and dancing to it. Sometimes, you just don't think about these things. Credibility of Source: It's posted on an Association of Prenatal and Health. I don't think they would give false information.

Title: Babies Seem to Pick Up Language in Utero Author: NICHOLAS BAKALAR Date Published: January 7, 2013 Why Relevant and Summary: This study took place in two different countries, and aim to gather information to prove the hypothesis that memory and language learning starts even during gestation. How This Influenced My Thinking: I already knew about it, but actually having a study to support this claim, made it even more reliable. I think studies like this influence future parents in their quest to stimulate their babies learning in the womb. Credibility of Source: It was publish in the health and science section of the New York Times, and the study is conducted by a University.

Title: Babies Seem to Pick Up Language in Utero Author: Nicholas Bakalar Date: 07 January 2013 Why Relevant and Summary: This article talks about the researches and experiments that are taking place to give people more information on how babies pick up language while still in the womb. Babies hear their mother's voice all the time after about 30 weeks. Once the baby is born he/she knows their mother's voice because it is so familiar. The babies that are involved in the studies have pacifiers that have tape recorders embedded in them to record the sucking noise. How This Influenced My Thinking: I have always heard that it is good for babies to listen to classical music because it increases their learning abilities, but to know that prenatal learning is important and has a positive effect blew my mind. Credibility of Source: Credible, it is from a newspaper, in which the article is peer reviewed and it talks about research.
