This article has a real life perspective of people going through the motions of caring for and making decisions for their elderly parents. Times of caring for the parents were described in depth from the perspective of the adult caregiver. This article gives a great outlook on the emotional roller coaster that the adult caregiver goes on and how this affects her deeply. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article made me really think about how difficult it would be to care for an elderly adult that is affected by dementia or Alzheimer's disease. How This Influenced My Thinking: this made me realize that age is more than just a number to some people. there are many clinical trials where age is involved, such as surveys for a specific group. it also made me realize that people deal with age differently, some are sad and depressed, while others welcome it like an old friend. Bensing Date Published: Aug. 3, 2006 Why relevant and summary: This is a really great look into aging successfully and what that process entails. It delves into selective optimization with compensation. The authors argue that proactive coping - attempting to prevent potential stressors that are the cause of this decrease in resources - may be a valuable strategy for successful aging. The authors also present this theory as a method of postponing disengagement from daily activities. How this influenced my thinking: I have not given much thought to aging, although I know it is happening and will continue to happen. I've always just kind of viewed the elderly with a distant form of respect coupled with a bit of sorrow. Let's face it, who wants to get old? Yet, this will happen to all of us unless (god forbid) some unforseen tragedy strikes first. Reading about ways to gracefully and successfully age and avoid or postpone disengagement, will go a long way as people enter older adulthood. When I reach older adulthood, I hope to be as active as that 106 year old man who started running marathons in his 80s!

The Japanese see the elderly and ancestors as being wise. The elderly hold knowledge that is valuable for future generations. How this influenced my thinking:It's amazing to see how much the Japanese respect their elders and ancestors. They hold great knowledge which is necessary to pass on to the next generations. How this influenced my thinking:It's important to have a proper inkate of calcium and vitamin D, but also doing weight-bearing exercises for strong bones. Why Relevant and Summary: This goes over how to handle discussing divorce with children, what might be expected. and how to react to children's behaviour. Gives a list of what to try to do, and what to avoid. How this Influenced my Thinking: This showed me that there are multiple reasons for divorce, and how children usually feel fear when they dont know what will be happening to their family. this also showed me that family divorce counseling might not always be favorable. Credibility: Empowering Parents website that won an iParenting media award. ideas, not straight facts.

Title: Teen Pregnancy Statistics Author: No Author Date Published: 2013 Why relevant and summary: These statistics are very astonishing. It gives statistics of teenage pregnancies, sexual intercourse, marriage. How it affected my thinking: These statistics blew me away. I honestly though there were not that many teenagers having sex at an early age, I thought many teenagers had their first intercourse when they were at least 17 years old, but according to the statistics there are teenagers whom are having intercourse at the young age of 12 and 3. Credibility: seems credible since its from a teen website.

How this influenced my thinking: I have read through Chapman's book and found it quite helpful. I think this is a great resource for anyone in a relationship.
