It explain what to expect the question to be at certain stages and how much information to give and how to present it. how has this influenced my thinking: I have a 7 and a 9 year old and I am very interested to know as much as possible about this topic. I was very surprised to read how the professionals contributing to this article find it a OK to explain to an 8 year old the basic concept of conception. credibility of source: it was published on the "American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry" website.

Why Relevant and Summary: It's relevant because it discusses what the child feels and what things may change according to which age group he or she is in. How This Influenced My Thinking: It gave me more knowledge on how it is kids feel. This is beneficial to me because I want to work with children. Credibility of Source: Seems credible. It lists all the sources used.

Title: Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Author: Encyclopedia of Mental Disorders Why Relevant and Summary: This article is relevant to testing intelligence because the Wechsler Intelligence Scale is a method of measurement for testing intelligence in children. This scale offers subtests that measures intelligence by verbal and nonverbal performance. How This Influenced My Thinking: I was able to better understand the different subtests that makes up the Wechsler Intelligence scale. Credibility of Source: Found on the Encyclopedia for Mental Disorders.

Title: Formal Operational Stage Author: Saul McLeod Date Published: 2010 Why Relevant and Summary: This article discusses Piaget's concept of formal operational stage, which is the stage when adolescents gain the ability to think in an abstract manner around the age 11+. This article also provides definitions and examples for key terms like inferential reasoning, concrete operational stage, pendulum task. How This Influenced My Thinking: I was able to gasp the concept for pendulum task better than from reading the textbook. Credibility of Source: not sure how credible but found on simply psychology.

Title: Puberty Author: No Author Date Published: Last updated October 13, 2010 Why Relevant and Summary: This article is published on .gov website and provides, in depth information about the changes that specifically happen to girls. It talks about, changes in body shape, breasts, body hair and changes going on in the mind. It talks about menarche, getting enough sleep, sexuality, dealing with dating etc. Most importantly, the website talks about protecting yourself, if your sexually active and how important it is to seek medical care such as seeing a gynocologist. How This Influenced My Thinking: I think it is great that this information is presented appropriately for young girls to utilize and educate themselves on what is going on within their bodies as well as reassuring them that this is all normal and happens to all of us. I'm glad that this information is readily available to girls that perhaps do not have relationships with their parents to discuss these topics. Credibility of Source: Yes, this website is managed by : The Office of Woman's Health, Office of Assistant Secretary for Health and the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Title: How Does Religion Affect the Lives of Adolescents? Date: 11-30-2005 Author: Jennifer Elliot Summary and why important: This was an excellent article about religion and adolescence. It was well written, had great sources, it taped onto this issue from all the sides. It talked about the media's influence, how recent religious scandal might or have affected faith in our young generation and it explained that religion is one of the factors that influences adolescents to make the right choices and not the only one. How it has change my thinking: I liked this article because it seemed impartial, it did not glorify or vilify those who practice religion and those who do not. It was realistic, it explained some great concepts, and everything was backed by research. Credibility: the author has a BS in Mass Communication, a BS in Psychology and is a Certified Mental Health Technician. This article was published on yahoo! voices which is a great website with a good reputation.

Title: Kohlberg Author: Saul McLeod Date Published: 2011 Why relevant/summary: This goes over the different levels and stages of kohlberg's moral reasoning theory. Explains an exaple he used for determining moral reasoning (Heinz question). How this influenced my thinking: This further explained what each stage resembles morally. this showed me one of the examples from his research, and how each group resoinded to it. this gave me firther depth into the stages. (at least from another perspective) Credibility: Saul McLeod has written quite a bit of information around psychology and development. Simply Psychology website. has citations and references.

Title:Religious vs Secular Humanism Author: Austin Cline Date Published: n.d Why Relevant and Summary: It helps define what it is to be humanist, and discusses whether their is some sort of religion involved in everything, even within Atheism or Humanism. How This Influenced My Thinking: It got me wondering about all the different religious believes and how different everyone's mentality and beliefs are. Credibility of Source: Seems credible.

How this influenced my thinking:I'm coming to the realization that it is important to not only discuss with children about puberty but also discuss basic anatomy. This could really help them by building their knowledge and confidence for open communication. Credibility of source:Credible

It discusses why kids bully, signs of bullying, and strategies to stop bullying. How this influenced my thinking:I love that this article says to be brave and walk away. Never confront the bully. Sometimes, the bully is just looking to get a reaction out of you. Credibility of source:Credible

How This Influenced My Thinking: It made me realize popularity is actually a huge thing with fourth graders Credibility of Source: No way to tell but it seems like a very credible source!

Very useful information, background and other wise. How This Influenced My Thinking: Didn't, but it was very interesting to read some of the background information . Credibility of Source: Credible, based on common sense as well as references from history.

Kant believed that moral reasoning is not based on the idea that humans are a means to an end, but that were an end in ourselves. How This Influenced My Thinking: I have studied Kant in Philosophy classes in the past, and enjoyed having the chance here to cross previous learning into what I am learning now. It also helped me to understand Kohlberg's sixth stage more thoroughly. Credibility of Source: Great - Wikipedia is credible

How This Influenced My Thinking: This film bring puberty back to rememberance and makes it personal, again. Credibility of Source: 7- Discovery Channel endorsed.

How This Influenced My Thinking: I showed me how our problem of obesity cannot be limited to diet and exercise, but is the perfect storm of sendentary/obesity-promoting occurances within our culture. Credibility of Source: 6 - He has served on many board with education & influence in childhood obesity.

Author: Amy Desai Date Published: 2006-2007 Why Relevant and Summary: This article give the viewpoint from a Christian worldview, in which options other than divorce are evaluated. It warns of the long-lasting effects an emotional judgment may not take the time to contemplate. How This Influenced My Thinking: This whole Focus on the Family site has great resources and ideas for those in marital distress. Credibility of Source: 6- Expert in the field but not clear citing of resources.
