Dell gives up on the smartphone dream - Cell Phones & Mobile Device Technology News & U... - 0 views

  •
This article explains how Dell, one of the largest and most successful PC makers in the world, has given up on a possible creation of their own smartphone. Dell expressed that they tried multiple times to produce a product that would be successful in the US smartphone market, but with a number of devices facing some serious bugs as well as a problem with slow speed, the company did not see positive results and they decided to trash the idea and process once and for all to focus on other opportunities. Dell is not getting out of the mobile device business altogether thanks to sales and success with devices sold in Asia and Japan, and the company will continue making low-cost phones and tablets for sale in emerging markets. With smartphones becoming a very successful and poplar device that many customers are increasingly taking an interest to, this setback has to worry or concern Dell because they are not able to compete will other huge named brands and companies in the mobile device bushiness. Dell has had it's highs and has had success over the years with products and devices, but maybe this is a wake up call that they don't have the money, resources, and high praise that more well-known companies do and this could be a huge factor to why the amount of success, more specifically in the phone industry, hasn't been enough to be a top contender in the mobile business altogether.

New Nike+ apps and shoes cater to basketball players and training athletes -- Engadget - 0 views

  •
Nike decided to come out with a new app that helps you exercise and get prepared for sports. This app connects with a pair of shoes they made and it is able to detect your speed, jump height etc. As well, this app has various techniques and warm ups you can do. This app is for i-phones and is available in the summer. I feel this new technology is good for everyone because it makes you want to become physically active and you can learn new techniques for sports that you never knew before. As well, this relates to the course because the app is a software and sensors in the shoes are the hardware. They had to program the app for it to work and sensor properly.

Tight on memory? SanDisk microSD cards hit 128GB | Mobile World Congress - CNET Reviews - 0 views

  •
This article tells us that people that have maxed out their memory from photos, videos and apps, are now able to purchase a 128GB microSD. SanDisk has said that the card will use faster read and write speed. they also said that they will be updating the memory on the Zone app for android, with adding an additional feature OptiMem, this will allow automatic transfers of older photos and videos to a microSD card. But OptiMem will monitor users. i think that the automatic transfer and monitoring is a good feature because it will save time transferring photos and videos to a SD card, because you will not have to transfer the photos to your computer than to the card. The monitoring is also good because it will inform whenever internal memory falls below predefined threshold, SanDisk said.

StoreDot's Bio-Organic Battery Tech Can Charge From Flat To Full In 30 Seconds | TechCr... - 0 views

  • StoreDot’s Bio-Organic Battery Tech Can Charge From Flat To Full In 30 Seconds
  •
This article is about a bio-organic battery by StoreDot, which uses quantum dot technology to charge a phone from flat to full in 30 seconds. There is currently only a prototype and the tech used has not yet been shrinked so that if is small enough to fit inside phones. The battery is famous for its amazing charging speed for a smartphone. The info of this technology is from research being done into Alzheimer's disease. The work is called peptides (amino acids), the company uses these molecules to create nano-crystals. The only disadvantage said by StoreDot is that the ecosystem is not ready because this is a brand new type of material. This creation is great but then it has some risks because of the new type of technology and it may affect the environment negatively.

Dash (Android) review - CNET - 0 views

  •
Do you ever want to know the way your cars works or how your driving habits affects your fuel economy? Then Dash is the app for you. However, it is only available for Android and in the US for now. For the app to work, Dash connects with an on board diagnostic that plugs to a dedicated port in your car and uses bluetooth to send data to your phone. Every car made after 1996 can use this app. The app requires an account and a diagnostics dongle. Once Dash is all set up, it will gather data about your car and your driving habits. Every time you start the car, drive around and turn off the car, it counts as a trip. For each trip, you will get a score which measures how safe you drive, and habits such as sticking to the speed limit. When you finish a trip, you get a breakdown of your starting and ending points, the total distance you drove, how long it took you, the amount of fuel used in dollars, and your average fuel economy. Dash also helps with repairs, and has many social features as added extras. New features that are on their way include a way to alert emergency crews that an accident has happened when the airbags are triggered. In my opinion, this app is a must have for drivers especially those who are still learning. With this app, your driving habits can improve a lot with its cool features.

Video: Japan's Defense Ministry Develops Awesome Ball-Shaped Drone | TechCrunch - 0 views

  •
The age of robots is coming near. Japan's Defense Ministry creates a ball shaped drone that can fly vertically and horizontally. It can also fly through narrow spaces. It goes at a max speed of 60km/h. If you throw a rock at it, don't think it will stop flying or go off balance because it won't thanks to three gyro sensors in its body. It even rolls on ground too. It only costed about $1400 US dollars in total because it was made from SPARE PARTS.

Government-Mandated Black Boxes In Your Cars - 0 views

  •
All airplanes are now fitted with "black boxes." These are basically boxes that record every movement in the airplanes altitude, pitch, speed and so on. well people are thinking of putting boxes such as these in cars so that it will be a lot easier to find out who was really at fault in accidents. I believe this will be a very useful tool as accident investigation is a big field and can become a much easier and make thins much faster.

Sharing-Friendly Shazam 5.0 Recognizes Music in a Second [VIDEO] - 0 views

  •
Shazam has come out with it's newest version, 5.0 for iPod and iPhone users. The changes to this new app is faster speed, better layout, and ability to connect to other social networks. Some people claim that it is THE fastest music app. Shazam claims that their app can identify a song in 1 second, and when tested it only took 3 seconds. This is a huge improvement to the older model which took 10 seconds. I remember having Shazam on my blackberry and having to sometimes wait for almost 30 seconds to get a song identified. This shows that Shazam has come a long way. People are also now allowed to comment on the music they found and share it with their friends on facebook and twitter. In addition, Shazam has added language support for over 30 different languages. making Shazam more universal. I'm sure that this new model will make Shazam a lot of money.

Lego robot crushes Rubik's Cube world record with superhuman speed | The Verge - 1 views

  •
In England, Two computer engineers were able to make a rubiks cube solving machine, out of legos. The machine does not just simply solve the rubiks cube, it is also able to solve it in under 3.253 seconds, making it the faster robot ever to solve a rubiks cube. The amazing thing is, is that this machine was built on these engineers free time. I believe what these two english engineers did was simply amazing. If someone has the free time to make a machine like this, these two powerful minds have the capability to make robots that could solve equations that are difficult, or things that make our every day life easier. Lego is truly a toy not just for kids, the motors and actuators are used from multiple Lego Windstorm sets and is being controlled by a Samsung galaxy s4 with a custom app.

Thunderbolt To Get Even Faster With New Cables - 0 views

  •
Even faster? Nien, nien, nien, nien that is not possible. But apparently it is with new fibre optic cables that transfer data even faster with the use of light pulses instead of electrical pulses. This is a pain free upgrade for thunderbolt users now because all you need to do is buy a new cable. Can it get any faster? Nothing goes faster then light, or does it? No it doesn't as outlined in the equation in e=mc2. But is that a lie? No, Einstein was right, he got everything else right. (Baby dont hurt me no more, da, da, da, da, da, da, da)
