A cornerstone of the project will be the SIIL map, an interactive virtual space geographically displaying qualitative and quantitative information about social economy, social entrepreneurship and social innovation initiatives. "Social enterprises, also known as social ventures, are businesses with an innovative model that is changing the nature of enterprise. They can take a variety of structures, including non-profits, for-profits, co-ops, partnerships and more. Like other businesses, social enterprises aim to be economically self-sustainable. They earn enough money to pay employees a fair wage, cover all of their expenses, and support the business' growth. But unlike other businesses, social enterprises have incorporated improving social, cultural, community or environmental outcomes into their business model. As their enterprises grow - so too do the benefits to society."

"Le Mouvement Desjardins a confirmé aujourd'hui un don de 200 000 $ à l'Université Saint-Paul (USP). Ce don contribuera à l'aménagement de la salle Desjardins située dans l'Atelier d'innovation sociale Mauril-Bélanger, en construction depuis l'été 2017, et à l'octroi de dix bourses d'études de 10 000 $ en innovation sociale. Ces bourses seront destinées aux étudiants autochtones, aux étudiants de première génération ou provenant de pays en voie de développement. Elles seront les plus généreuses de l'histoire de l'USP. "

La Chaire de recherche du Canada en innovation sociale et développement des territoires misera sur la concertation des acteurs socioéconomiques dans le cadre de ses travaux. « L'idée est de développer une méthodologie fondée sur la recherche partenariale et la mobilisation de connaissances et d'évaluer les opportunités et les contraintes liées à l'innovation sociale », explique le professeur Alberio.

"Ce sera la première école d'innovation sociale au Canada qui s'engage à s'attaquer à la question de la réduction de la pauvreté sous toutes ses formes : la pauvreté en lien avec la santé physique et mentale, la pauvreté dans la participation civique, la pauvreté intellectuelle en raison du manque d'éducation, la pauvreté situationnelle causée par les catastrophes naturelles et la pauvreté spirituelle, pour n'en nommer que quelques-unes. Ce don nous permettra d'avoir une incidence sur les communautés marginalisées, tout en facilitant le lancement d'entreprises sociales commercialement viables », a déclaré Chantal Beauvais, rectrice de l'Université Saint-Paul. "L'Atelier d'innovation sociale Mauril-Bélanger ouvrira ses portes le 6 avril prochain à Ottawa. Cet espace de travail collaboratif poursuivra la mission de soutenir les initiatives, organisations et entreprises d'innovation sociale, plus particulièrement celles qui répondent aux enjeux de la communauté franco-ontarienne, des nouveaux arrivants et des Premières Nations. "

"L'université s'est aussi récemment dotée d'un centre d'apprentissage expérientiel. « Par souci de rendre nos formations plus pratiques, nous avons mis en place un mécanisme qui permet aux étudiants de se trouver des stages », explique Chantal Beauvais. Des coachs y accompagnent également les étudiants dans leur savoir-être. « Ce n'est pas tout de mettre la théorie en pratique, il faut aussi savoir comment s'adapter à un environnement de travail et à une culture organisationnelle », fait valoir la rectrice. Quelques nouveautés s'ajouteront bientôt à l'offre de programmes, dont une école d'innovation sociale."

Nous (le TIESS) seront en contact avec les nouveaux professeurs chargés de mettre en place cette école d'innovation sociale afin (notamment) d'y intégrer des notions propres à l'économie sociale.

Based at the University of Victoria (UVic) and the Society for Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA), the UNESCO Chair in Community Based Research and Social Responsibility in Higher Education is co-directed by Dr. Budd L Hall and Dr. Rajesh Tandon. The UNESCO Chair supports North-South-South and South-South partnerships that build on and enhance the emerging consensus in knowledge democracy. It strengthens recent collaboration between the Higher Education section in UNESCO, the Global University Network for Innovation (GUNI), Global Alliance on Community University Engagement and other regional and global networks. Hall and Tandon recently published a report about the last four very productive years (2012-2016) of UNESCO Chair activities in knowledge production and mobilization, policy advocacy and training in CBR. Four social enterprises are also present, such as Timsel, which developed an app to assist people with mental health issues, and the Campfire Project, which is creating narratives for Canada's 150th birthday in 2017."
