Based at the University of Victoria (UVic) and the Society for Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA), the UNESCO Chair in Community Based Research and Social Responsibility in Higher Education is co-directed by Dr. Budd L Hall and Dr. Rajesh Tandon. The UNESCO Chair supports North-South-South and South-South partnerships that build on and enhance the emerging consensus in knowledge democracy. It strengthens recent collaboration between the Higher Education section in UNESCO, the Global University Network for Innovation (GUNI), Global Alliance on Community University Engagement and other regional and global networks. "In the wake of the unrest in Baltimore this April, officials at Johns Hopkins University announced they would hire 300 Baltimore youth-up from 100 the previous year-for the city's annual summer jobs program. ­The youth, who range in age from 15 to 21, will work at the university, the university's hospital and the university's health system this summer."

"This paper examines the tensions, and paradoxes related to open innovation taking place in living labs. Although the open innovation model is spreading rapidly and living labs are an increasingly popular way to accelerate innovation processes, they are under researched. There is a substantial need for more research on innovation mechanism in living labs. This study focuses on three main classes of tensions that characterize open innovation in living labs: management, users, and the way of working. The suggested categorization of tensions into paradoxes is based on a theory review and an empirical analysis of 26 living labs in four countries. This paper proposes that living labs foster emergence of paradoxical tensions and act as a mechanism to reorganize paradoxical tensions. The paper concludes with theoretical and managerial implications and suggests directions for future research. "

Dans ce numéro 2015 de l'annuaire sur l'innovation ouverte de la Commission européenne, les thèmes vont de l'écosystème européen d'innovation et sa gouvernance jusqu'à plusieurs cas concrets portant sur la manière adoptée dans l'innovation ouverte pour améliorer la qualité de vie, les conditions d'emploi et la croissance économique. Par exemple, les universitaires devront repositionner leur travail en ce qui concerne les écosystèmes d'innovation ouverte. Leur nouveau rôle suppose également de nouvelles approches en matière de propriété intellectuelle et en matière de réseautage avec les autres acteurs du milieu. Les établissements universitaires devront mettre au point de nouveaux modes de fonctionnement qui devront aller au-delà des modes actuels qui consistent à être seulement des fournisseurs de connaissances scientifiques. Un autre article se penche sur les écosystèmes d'innovation ouverte des communautés de pratique. Les travaux se concentrent sur les nouveaux rôles du secteur public en suivant l'exemple du concept danois de MindLab. Ce lien mène à un site qui n'est peut-être pas soumis au standard gouvernemental sur l'accessibilité., c'est-à-dire des unités en matière d'innovation intergouvernementale, lequel concept nécessite la participation des citoyens et des entreprises pour relever les défis sociétaux. L'approche allemande qui consiste à entretenir des laboratoires d'innovation en dehors des structures gouvernementales ainsi que la notion de villes intelligentes font également l'objet de discussions. Finalement, l'ensemble des articles démontre l'importance de prendre une pause et d'avoir le courage de regarder de nouvelles approches disruptives, de les expérimenter, même de jouer avec elles. New courses on co-operatives at the University of Saskatchewan Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Saskatchewan will offer two courses focusing on co-operatives as part of its program leading to a Certificate in social economy and co-operatives. The courses are entitled Co-operatives in the New Economy: Institutions, Policy, and Sustainability which will be given by Professor Brett Fairbairn and Co-operative Governance and Leadership in Action will be available in the fall semester 2015. Les recommandations comprennent : la création d'un conseil de l'entrepreneuriat; l'ouverture d'un incubateur sur le campus; l'établissement d'un programme de certificat de premier cycle universitaire portant sur le domaine en question; la mise en valeur d'un écosystème entrepreneurial, notamment par la mise sur pied d'un programme de financement.
