This is a very informative website. It explains what sustainability is, and what is being done to preserve it. Also, it explains what we can do to help.

This is great article to grasp what exactly sustainability is. I like how it really goes it to depth about what exactly it is instead of just giving a general defining statement, it helps with the comprehension of what it really means. It also shows what can be done to help this also helped with the comprehension because it gave examples so also an opportunity to reflect as well.

This article is about the sustainability need in the food waste area. This article explain that we should recycle our food by composting and also explain two types of ways to compost.

To achieve a sustainable society then food waste must be recycled as opposed to being sent to landfill sites around the country. We all know the problems that our planet is suffering through global warming that is partly aided by the greenhouse gasses that are produced when food waste is sent to landfill and the ensuing fluctuations in temperature that is suffered around the globe.

But then after reading about your going green comment i thought about how ironic it is that color is being considered a sustainability method. It is great when you can see something from someone else point of view and get more from something you already agreed with.

Start the pile with a layer of coarse material like branches and twigs to allow air flow to the pile. For a carbon source, add 6 inches of leaves and other woody materials. For a nitrogen source, add 2-3 inches of grass clippings, kitchen wastes and garden wastes. Mix these two layers to speed up decomposition and then cover with 2 inches of dirt to control odors. Dampen the pile with water as new layers are added or more frequently if the weather is dry. The pile should be concave in the center to prevent runoff of water. The moisture content is sufficient when the surface of the pile glistens. To speed up decomposition, mix/turn the pile once a week and periodically sprinkle it with water to keep it moist. When the interior of the pile is no longer hot and the material has broken down into dark, crumbly soil, the composting is finished. The process usually takes 3-6 months.

The number one thing that is thrown away is food scrapes, not plastic or paper. Those food scrapes we could be composting. She stated that wasting food is a cultural habit. We are use to doing it and it is culturally acceptable. Breaking this awful food waste habit then there is going to have to be an adjustment in our society. This article is how much produce the world waste. Often times produce is left to rot in the farm lands where it is being grown. You ask why? If the certain product isn't the right shape, color, size, or feel right it is left. This is because the consumers won't buy the product if it looks a little funny. If it makes it to the store the grocer does sales, promotions and other things to have consumers buy more. This then results in waste at home because often times consumers won't use all the product.
