The average household wastes about 14 percent of their food. The NIDDK researched that in 2009 a quarter of our water consumption and over 300 million barrels of oil go into producing and distribution and ends up in landfills. Now that's a waste.

  •
This is great article to grasp what exactly sustainability is. I like how it really goes it to depth about what exactly it is instead of just giving a general defining statement, it helps with the comprehension of what it really means. It also shows what can be done to help this also helped with the comprehension because it gave examples so also an opportunity to reflect as well.

I really enjoyed reading this article because it ties in with food waste what we have been taking about. For an instance I thought they were the same back to going "green" it is good to learn the difference to comprehend both. This is also very helpful for those of us who would like to help but do not know how.
  •
To achieve a sustainable society then food waste must be recycled as opposed to being sent to landfill sites around the country. We all know the problems that our planet is suffering through global warming that is partly aided by the greenhouse gasses that are produced when food waste is sent to landfill and the ensuing fluctuations in temperature that is suffered around the globe.
  •
I really like your comment Norma i Read the same thing but saw it in a different light. But then after reading about your going green comment i thought about how ironic it is that color is being considered a sustainability method. It is great when you can see something from someone else point of view and get more from something you already agreed with.

We use energy for everything. We use energy to treat our water , grow our food, produces and to go to place to place. In general we want our community to develop more diverse, reliable, and cleaner sources of energy; to reduce energy usage; and to improve efficiency.

As you said and the article says energy is so important to us to keep life going. Creating a better source of energy would be a big advancement to help this cause. It is great that other cities are taking action to make a change.
  •
This article explains the importance of energy greatly, and the fact there is more to energy than "keeping the lights on". Energy needs to be sustainable for the future generations needs of energy, the need for energy won't go away.
  •
I tried to see what was important on this article but it wasn't very easy for me personally to grasp. I see that you 3 did find the point of the sustainability with electricity. I find it funny that we are always leaving lights on when we leave a room and think nothing of it until we are told it will save us money or that we are wasting something we really take for granted.
  •
This article states that sustainability and energy interconnect in many ways. I agree with Dominique we use energy for everything we do, but hopefully we don't take advantage of the resources we have now and end up leaving are future heirs high and dry.

Food Waste Along Supply Chain - 0 views

  •
The number of food wasted worldwide is huge. Our uneaten fruits and vegetables add to the total amount of food waste. Another, factor that adds to food waste is edible food being thrown out because of the self-life date. If there was a way for packaging to extend the life of opened food it would help cut down or food waste. Reports show financial, managerial and technical restrictions in harvesting, and the different climates in facilities have more to do with food waste.

Years ago, we chose the word sustainability to describe societies goals and the belief that its possible. The most common way sustainability has been defined is "the ability to sustain" or "the capacity to endure." It is about our society and its future and the lives we live and everything in it.Sustainability is about being eco-friendly and eco-effective. Society needs to change its marketing strategies.
