It has a wide range of uses from interactive presentations to database applications but throughout its history it has been used regularly for training materials - especially simulations of everything from rig management software to artillery gunnery. It seems that the developers of Digital Workshop have worked closely with customers to understand their actual requirements and base the new features on making those easier to achieve. The result is a set of unusual features to provide everyday requirements automatically and yet offer the flexibility to make even sophisticated functions easy.

Trends in Learning Technologies to Watch in 2013 - 1 views

  •
Trends in Learning Technologies to Watch in 2013 Social/Informal Learning, Mobile Learning, Video - these three items have been "hot" for several years now, both in education and the corporate sector. Many are excited about them but the adoption of them has been slower than predicted. Barriers include cost, technology issues still not resolved, confusion about the differences between formal and informal learning, design factors, cultural factors, concerns about security, etc. http://elearningindustry.com/subjects/general/item/423-trends-learning-technologies-2013

eLeanring portfolio of confidential work samples - 2 views

  •
How would you put together an eLeanring portfolio of work samples when all your work has been proprietary/confidential? I need to create some materials in PowerPoint and Captivate to display my skills to potential clients, but it all has to be "fictional" as I can't use the work I've done previously. If you've been in the same boat, how do you pick your topics, based on the skills you want to highlight? Would you pick an existing program and create a tutorial for it? Work on a basic topic like choosing a car? What's worked best for you in impressing a potential client?

Deeper eLearning Design: Part 6 - Putting It All Together | Learnnovators - 0 views

  •
"This is the sixth and final post in a series of six that covers Deeper eLearning. The goal of this series is to build upon good implementations of instructional design, and go deeper into the nuances of what makes learning really work. It is particularly focused on eLearning, but much of what has been mentioned also applies to face-to-face or virtual instruction. We've covered objectives, practice, concepts, examples, and the emotional component. Here we're talking about putting it all together."

Test and Assess - be a curator! by William J. Ryan Paint cures but what's that to do with testing? Curation as a process has been going on a long time; you probably had teachers who shared reading lists, sites of interest, things to do on your next family vacation. http://elearningindustry.com/subjects/concepts/item/391-test-assess-curator

The TOP eLearning Companies based on LinkedIn Followers - 0 views

A lot have been written about the TOP companies in the eLearning Industry. In my opinion, the ultimate characteristic of a Top eLearning company is the number of eLearning professionals that keep track of these companies. I create the following list with The TOP eLearning Companies based on LinkedIn Followers. A simple explanation of why these companies are extremely popular across the eLearning professionals at LinkedIn is because... the professionals involved in the eLearning Industry want to know potential business and job opportunities, and new developments of these Top eLearning Companies

Learning from Harvard: MOOC story, pt4 - 0 views

Learning from Harvard: MOOC story, pt4 This latest installment of my quest to find online best practice from inside Harvard's CS50x MOOC took a slightly different direction than previous weeks. Now that I'm in the groove of the course, I have been able to reflect less on working with the content and more on working with my peers in the class. And I've realized that I'm not a very strong asset to them. http://elearningindustry.com/subjects/concepts/item/450-learning-from-harvard-mooc-story-pt4

Educational Pinball - Comparing eLearning to a Game of Pinball - 0 views

Educational Pinball - Comparing eLearning to a Game of Pinball Recently I had been trying to think of an effective way of visualising the e-learning process and the mechanics behind it, which would allow me to give a more considered approach for the courses on which I am working, and strengthen the effectiveness of the learning content. In addition this would help me improve my ability to clearly explain the reasoning behind my course material development. http://elearningindustry.com/educational-pinball-comparing-elearning-to-a-game-of-pinball

Instructional Design Strategy for Achieving Alignment - 2 views

  •
Instructional Design Strategy for Achieving Alignment Which Comes First, Activities or Assessments? We have been told all our lives to put things in order. Keep your tax files in order. Keep your house in order. Alphabetize your index. Number your chapters. Write the introduction before the conclusion. Yet, sometimes actually doing things in the order in which they appear as a final product is not the most effective approach. Take course design for example. When we see the finished product of an online course, we see the objectives followed by activities and resources, and finally the assessment. While this sequence may be the logical order for the published course, it is not necessarily the most effective approach for the design process, especially when alignment is a critical focus. http://elearningindustry.com/instructional-design-strategy-for-achieving-alignment

A View into the Future of eLearning As more organizations are discovering the advantages of eLearning, there is a greater push to take instructor-led courses online. The challenge of course, is how to do this effectively. Fortunately, we have arrived at a point in time where technology now supports the promise of the virtual classroom. From the time personal computers entered the workplace, this has been a goal of training developers. The future is now here. http://elearningindustry.com/subjects/companies/item/459-a-view-into-the-future-of-elearning

Learning Technology is Grossly Overrated - 0 views

  •
In a world where technology rules the day, the question should not be whether or not it is necessary, but if it is effective. In a world where technology rules the day, the question should not be whether or not it is necessary, but if it is effective. I am, and always have been, a harbinger of utilizing technology for learning initiatives. However, I am also wary of how quickly new technology is deemed the "best thing ever", particularly when it comes to training programs.

Pile on the learning, easy on the technology - 1 views

  •
Are your employees actually learning from technology-based training programs? Much has been written about the technology of training. The story-line is often the same: companies are champing at the bit for the opportunity to exercise the latest training technologies in an effort to reach employees effectively while reducing costs. This trend is understandable. Technology has made training much more convenient, an essential factor for global enterprises that need to train employees across the world. Instead of supersizing the travel budget to bring employees to the home office or other training center, technology can help trim their bottom line by pushing training out into the regional offices. But are their employees better trained as a result of this technological boom? With companies fast abandoning traditional instructor-lead training in favor of tech-based training, it is increasingly important to ensure that technology remains the training messenger rather than becoming the message.

Using Elearning for Technology and Healthcare Education - 0 views

  •
Elearning makes sense economically and logistically It is the cheapest way to get a clear, consistent message to the most people in the least amount of time. For those of us working with clients in IT or healthcare, what better way to educate workers on the use of technology than to use technology to do the job? We've been using elearning to train workers across all industries in some skills, particularly manufacturing line workers in processes or transactional workers in soft skills. But this trend is accelerating and spreading beyond line workers and manufacturing workers on the floor, and now reaches to the upper echelons of the corporate hierarchy. Today, we are using many elearning modalities to educate, inform and transform at all levels of the organization - webinars, online courses, videos, e-modules, pdfs, list servs - the list goes on and on and on. Any type of computer-based learning from your laptop, your iPad or your smart phone, anything you can grab from the web, download, participate in virtually, log onto or phone into, is elearning. As one particular case in point, healthcare workers in all phases of the industry from surgeons to receptionists are being asked to change their work processes to seamlessly incorporate the use of information technology to provide better patient care. It only makes sense that one of the ways to migrate these workers to the effective use of technology is to also educate them using those same tools.

Camtasia Studio for E-learning: Common Myths Exposed - 0 views

  •
One of the greatest struggles I see with Instructional Designers is trying decide which rapid authoring tool to purchase and spend their limited time learning. Generally, it's a choice between Articulate, Captivate and Camtasia Studio with Camtasia running a distant third (unless software demos make up the bulk of the training). In the past I would have agreed that Camtasia would not have been my first choice for true e-learning but with the two most recent releases of this software I've found it to be the perfect tool for not just software demos but also soft skills and compliance training. If you'd like to see some of the e-learning I've developed with Camtasia Studio over the past couple of years Please join me, Camtasia specialist Lon Naylor and Elearningindustry.com/ site founder Christopher Pappas on Sept 25th for a free Webinar called "Camtasia Studio 8 E-learning Case Studies".
