What some teachers are doing for earthday - April 22nd -- some good ideas.

Today on horizon, my students set up their PLN (personal learning network) in their RSS reader -- we use Netvibes although some switched to Google reader. Here is how I will assess this: I am assessing the students on this by having them print the page out and turn it in -- I'm also checking over their shoulders in lieu of printing -- but I may not get to everyone. -- In this blog post, I've REQUIRED 6 things on the page -- each is worth 10 points -- with 2 of those points being for a properly edited title in Netvibes (so that they may see what is what!) -- and then I have them find at least four additional sources of information for another 10 points each. Knowing how to set up a PLN for a topic of study is a VITAL skill for the 21st century researcher. I like Netvibes because it is very simple -- one page interface.

Wow -- this longitudinal study shows that all generations show "google generation" traits with over 65 year olds spending 4 more hours a week online than some of the younger ages. It argues that libraries must adapt to the digital mindset AND that young people are lacking in information skills! This is an important study for all educators, business leaders, AND students on the Horizon project. Another reason to remind ourselves that we base practice on RESEARCH not STEREOTYPES!

The common habits of successful adult learners guides their completion of continuing education programs through dedication and will power. Success or failure rests squarely on their shoulders, and no one else's. Their overall view is that any short-term sacrifice is well worth the effort, as long as long-term goals are met and success becomes a reality.

Based on the premise that formal education is confined to the first two decades or so of a person's life and cannot possibly prepare one for the constancy and rapidity of change, lifelong learning becomes an imperative if each person is to cope with the explosion of knowledge, understand societal differences as they evolve, and adapt to the aging process.

Lifelong learning is process that everyone is involved with in some manner and is referred to as continuing education. Learning requires effort on your part to achieve career goals or to satisfy a personal quest or goal in life.

Wow you can create huge range of vocal effects as well as instruments genres etc eventually UJAM will embed into any type of platform/ use. I'm imagining Twitter with optional sound? Or in games. Oh yeah how about a profile with a little acapella or guitar rift?

Survey results from students who have had access to shared iPads (2:1) in their high school classes for approximately four months.

Planning is imperative for any technology initiative - iPad or otherwise. You need to ensure that you clearly understand and communicate how the technology integrates with your overall pedagogical objectives. Too many institutions purchase technology and then search for ways to utilize it ... or leave it collecting dust on the shelf.
