ED in '08 Blogger Summit - 0 views

  •
Conference for educational bloggers -- too bad it is in the waning weeks of the school year.
  •
Join thought leaders in education policy and national politics to discuss how the Internet is changing the discourse of education reform, and how those changes are affecting the 2008 presidential election. ED in '08 welcomes ed-bloggers and political bloggers to take part in the discussion. I'm glad the "thought leaders" in American can come, however, the timing of this conference precludes most teachers I know from even considering coming we're all in the "home stretch" and rarely are we able to leave the classroom, especially this time of year. I would hope that one day the edublogosphere would truly level us so that teachers would be included in these discussions. For, until that happens, I doubt we'll find any truly relevant change for the classroom.. just more buzzwords and "programs" that don't suit today's student. Hint: If you want reform, ask some good teachers or at least include them in the discussion. There are some big picture thinkers out there that ARE teachers in the public classroom.

Tales of an Inner-City Teacher: Crunch Time.... - 0 views

  •
Exciting description of a wonderful individual research project at the elementary level with limited resources and a very hard working teacher.
  •
I love the pictures on this blog showing the students using the computer, on the floor... everywhere, working on individual research projects. (Got to this blog to see the final products.) At first I said, "display boards?" but then I realized the amount of computer work required to create these display boards and I saw the age of the students and the number of computers in this classroom. This is a tremendous amount of work. Applause here from me to Kristi, another teacher blogger who I "met" from yesterday's post (hey go back to yesterdays and leave yours!)

Group Linkrolls - educators | Diigo Groups - 1 views

  •
Group linkrolls for the diigo group that can be filtered by tag. This is very useful for pD.
  •
The educators group on Diigo now has a linkroll which will allow you to share things. The power of this is that if you are a science teacher, you can filter everything and only share science. Same for all subject areas. I've turned on preapproval for this group to keep the spam out because we are approaching 500 members in this group. Remember, when you bookmark to diigo, check share to a group and then pick educators and at least one standard tag (you can use more.)

Site Community for coolcatteacher.blogspot.com,Cool Cat Teacher Blog - 1 views

  •
This is the "site community" for my blog -- I'm learning a lot about what people have marked and the annotations feature is really cool. If you blog or have a website, you should look at the automatically created site community -- also check it out for those sites you really enjoy reading -- you may turn up some of their great old posts that you've not read!
  •
This is a sample of the "site community" that is created around every website-- all bloggers should take a look at the site community created around their own site. Cool!

Wandering Ink - 0 views

A great student blog for your feed reader. Kris is so insightful. Her 'How to Prevent another Da Vinci post was nominated in the edublogs as a 'most influential post'. She recently moved to her own server and lost a lot of readership.

Coffee-addicted, wanderlust-afflicted, existential teen writer/debater seeks an intellectual escape and the complete works of Voltaire. Static characters and stilted dialogue need not apply. Ratpack fan a plus.

Common Core - Working to Bring Exciting, Comprehensive, Content-Rich Instruction to Eve... - 2 views

  •
We believe that a child who graduates from high school without an understanding of culture, the arts, history, literature, civics, and language has in fact been left behind. So to improve education in America, we're promoting programs, policies, and initiatives at the local, state, and federal levels that provide students with challenging, rigorous instruction in the full range of liberal arts and sciences.
  •
Very heartening to see a growing movement advocating a knowledge-rich, intellectually rigorous curriculum for schools. They've got the funds to hire good photographers and models with nice skin, too.
