Info Island, Community Virtual Library - 1 views

  •
The volunteer librarians of Info Island provide actual reference service for people's questions both inside and beyond Second Life. "Ask the Librarian" is a virtual reference service where you can chat with a librarian to get assistance. The multi-lingual service is international in scope. There is a very useful library of free Second Life scripts and educational tools. This is a great resource for educators.

This SLURL includes a library of archives about aeronautics. It is overwhelmed with information. The ones I would choose to use for my students (primary children K-6) would be the Women in flight, the reference desk, pictures/gallery of astronauts (which includes pictures of astronauts landing on the moon), and gallery of African American pilots.

Virtual Community Landmarks - 1 views

This is an incredible location- a collection of intriguing landmarks from a variety of subjects. You really need to stop by here and pick up some good ideas about places to visit in SL and the internet. From one location you can view displays on many topics complete with links to webpages and notecards containing additional references. Some ideas: DaVinci's Observatory, A Cooking Center, Hyperhistory -http://www.hyperhistory.com/online_n2/History_n2/a.html Spectrum School Network- http://www.incwell.com/Biographies/ History of Computing and Learning in Education Open Library: directory-style search http://openlibrary.org/search/subjects?q=educational+technology

I agree with you Cathy. You raise great questions. I think banning second life would not be a solution, but a detrimental quick fix, to a potentially effective form of teaching. The issue of glob...

Just Genealogy (Wollah) - 0 views

Again, I was alone here, but I found a helpful old-fashioned British phone box with information, including a calendar of events that take place here. I also noticed that genealogy publishers, such as Heritage Books, have a presence here, so that might make it easier for folks to find specific resources to buy or look for at their local libraries.

Their calendar is tied into Google Calendar, so if you want, you can add an event to your own Google Calendar(s) and get reminders. Nice feature.

Diane, have you checked out the Mormon island? I did, and you can access old censuses (sp?) and stuff. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Adam%20ondi%20Ahman/183/51/25
