Well, this is a strange and interesting place indeed. One that seems rich with possibilities, and, well, somewhat difficult to navigate. Dubbed as "a sea of inspirational and joyful learning", Atlantis rising is also :
"A virtual underwater campus was created in Second Life to engage educators in their own unique experiences with skills, topics, group tools and virtual worlds that are capturing the imaginations of our students."

One thing I enjoyed: sitting in a gazebo listening to a version of the "Ave Maria" that might have been sung by Frank Sinatra (though I don't think he ever did that one).

Another exhibit I liked was an interactive haiku museum, featuring various art and haiku poetry pieces. Interesting to browse here, and I spent a bit of time wandering. A few of the other exhibits were a bit strange; I think I will need to spend some more time here to really get a feel. I hear there is a Dante's inferno somewhere in this location, but I haven't found it yet.

This is a really exciting use of this technology - a theater troupe that produces full-length Shakespearean plays live in SL. Currently, they're doing Twelfth Night, Sundays at 1pm and Tuesdays at 6pm, SL time. They're also holding auditions for future plays. This seems like a great opportunity for students to experience theater without the expense. I look forward to checking out an upcoming production.
