This website utilizes pictures, video or any type of work that can be uploaded to the site by a teacher or a student. Participants are able to provide written, voice or video comments about the posted artifact. This is a collaborative, student-centered site that promotes cognitive processing of information. This artifact represents what Mayer (2009) calls dual coding, including both textual and visual components. The students have the opportunity to respond in a variety of ways to the instruction which promotes higher level thinking skills. I plan to create my own Voice Thread using our own student writing.

VoiceThread allows its users to create a slideshow presentation using images and/or video components. Once the presentation has been designed and ready to share, it can be embedded onto any webpage. This allows for easier access to its users and viewers. This particular online presentation program was much easier to use and access than many of the other programs that I viewed. It also allows for collaboration among classmates and instructors, by permitting others to comment on each photo through text, audio, or video.

VoiceThread is a collaborative tool that allows users to upload media and engage in dialogue. Users can provide commentary on the media that is presented through typing or voice recording. An additional feature of VoiceThread allows users to draw with a pen as a way of highlighting while they are talking. The administrator has options to block participants' responses from each other before revealing all the comments for viewing. This website supports essential and generative learning because participants are given the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to transfer knowledge gained.

Brief description of what it allows you to do and how it can be used for essential or generative learning: This site is awesome for creating mindmaps using a software that runs on multiple platforms and is adjustable when viewed. The most notable function is the collaboration function that allows the sharing or co-creating of a mindmap. This organizer can be completed by the audience member pertaining to the presentation material in a manner that makes sense to them. Brief explanation of why you found this site to be better than others you found (e.g., more effective, creates better products, easier to use, and so on): I have used this with my students and received positive feedback. I have even used it for some Walden assignments and feel it is user friendly and designed to promote collaboration.

A free, web-based graphic organizer. It is easy to use and share. I am using this as a way to organize the workshop and provide a visual for the teachers to have and understand the goals/timeline of the training.

Bubble.us is an online mind map that allows users to collaborate on brainstorming. Users can share their mindmap with others and provide access to read or edit. As content is added the mindmap takes on a new shape and cells can be color coded. Another feature of bubbl.us is for users to import work that has been saved on their computer or embed their mindmap. Bubbl.us can be used for pre-training which supports essential learning. I found this site to be more useful for collaborativebrainstorming .

Storybird is a website that consists of a collection of collaborative stories written by people all over the world. The website features pre-made user-friendly templates and layouts as well as graphics to use when creating your story.

Storybird is an online tool that allows its users to make, read, and share visual stories in just a matter of seconds. The idea is for authors to create a story using the artwork that has already been provided by artist around the world. This online program is learner-centered according to Mayer as "a learner-centered approach is designed to influence the learning process; you must adapt the technology to the way the human mind works" (Mayer, 2007).

Assignment, Module 3 - Yodio.com is a free, web-based recording service where users can record from any microphone or cell phone to create a visual and audio podcast experience.  Users can synchronize their voice commentaries with photos to create media presentations and responses.  They can be shared, streamed through the Internet, or embedded in other websites and blogs.  In essence, it is an audio postcard.  Another advantage the site offers for classroom presentations is it allows you to toggle back and forth to full-screen mode.  One interesting note:  the name, Yodio, is derived from YOur auDIO.

The topic of my multimedia Artifacts project is How to Utilize Multimedia to Create Effective Instructions. Robertson, et.al (2010) article on cognitive tools-emerging perspectives on learning and teaching, was definitively learner-centered approach to learning. Various multimedia artifacts such as PowerPoint Presentations, Notebook Online discussions, Teleconferences, Video streaming and Podcasting (LearnOutLoud.com) allow students to retrieve and identify information through learning situations that required the seeking of information. Information was presented in a meaningful and appropriate representation that supported the participants by allowing them to use technology tools to establish relationships among information by structuring or restructuring information and manipulating the information (p.1). Mayer's (2008) dual coding /dual channels is where participate take in information as visual (through the eyes) and the verbal channel which deals with processing sound,( spoken text ). For those of you familiar with the software Inspiration, this is a web version with some of the same options. This is a mind mapping tool that helps you "capture ideas, organize information, collaborate and share your work, and create diagrams.

Webspiration is a teacher friendly site that contains a vast array of graphic organizers, diagrams, writing organizers and many others. This site is typically used in grades 5-12. With many options, students and/or teacher are able to find an organizer that suits their project or essay. This site is easy to use and is effective in assisting students in independently developing their graphic organizer. 

Webspiration offers collaboration and graphic organizer software for classroom or professional use. Webspiration has free subscriptions available as well as subscriptions for purchase. I found it to be easy to use and share.

This site focuses specifically on how to use IPhoto as a classroom tool. This source seems to use a combination of cognitive and behavioral activities. I believe this site uses a more learner centered approach. It gives visuals as well as reading to help the learner to understand concepts. I believe they are meeting a goal of the learner centered approach, aiding in human cognition (Mayor, 2009).

I haven't built anything yet, but I will use it for a mind map of Web 2.0 functions.

I know we only needed two pre-training websites, but I just wanted to include this one so that I did not forget about it, as I find it to be a great resource. What it does: Generates a list of synonyms for a chosen word. Provides a "mind map" type of chart for the synonyms. Why this one: It is extremely simple and quick to use. Teaches are always short on time. This is a resource that requires no learning time. Results are immediate. Learning benefits: The mind map results chart is great for generative learning. It launches possibilities from which a learner can begin brainstorming.

The Visual Thesaurus is an interactive dictionary and thesaurus that encourages exploration and learning. This program is easy to use and creates word maps that blossom with meanings and branch to related words, helping to understand the concepts to engage in the learning process.

Although this website requires a subscription, I found it to be so easy to use that its well worth it. My participants can take any key word they want and instantly create a thinkmap with a few clicks!

The Windows Media Player 12 allows users to view and listen to videos, movies, and music. The Windows Media Player appeals to the visual and auditory learners. The program allows teachers to show video clips relating to instructional topics using the lecture and discussion presentation method. The program supports essential and generative learning methods using the multimedia format.

The Kidspiration brainstorming program allows teachers and learners in grades K-5 to create interactive graphic organizers in the core subject areas. The software program has preloaded templates in each core subject.\nWhy this one:Teachers have the program already loaded onto their school issued laptops. The program allows teachers to create a digital notebook. The digital notebook allows users to collaborate their notes, audio, and visual information in one location. The online notebook is a great instructional tool for generative learning.\n\n\n

OneNote is an excellent, easy to use tool for students, writers, people looking for a way to organize notes, or anyone who needs more flexibility beyond Word provides in the creation of documents.\nWhy this one: Teachers have the program already loaded onto their school issued laptops. The program allows teachers to create a digital notebook. The digital notebook allows users to collaborate their notes, audio, and visual information in one location. \n

The site offers teachers free organizers to help them brainstorm, organize, and visualize their instructional ideas. \nWhy this one: First, the user downloads the vocabulary organizer. Next, the user inputs the information onto the form and prints it out. In addition, the website has free teaching lesson plan notes accompanying each organizer. It is free and very easy to use. The graphic organizer is a great instructional tool for generative learning.

This is a great tutorial on basic computer skills for participants who are uncomfortable using the computer. In order to use clickers in the classroom, one must be familiar with the computer. Some individuals that may complete the workshop are still unsure on how to use a computer. The video provides visuals and screen shots for the viewer to see how easy tasks are on the computer. Mayer (2010) explains essential learning as of understanding due to not having a sound previous understanding of a concept. The website helps the user create a graphic organizer. There are step by step instructions to guide the user through. By completing the tutorial, the participant is being pre-taught and gaining the basic knowledge to help then continue through.

This is one of two sites that I will be using in my Graphic Organizer and Presentation. This site is a compilation of various astronomy resources, games, and presentations for kids. I love it because it has very bright graphics and is easy to navigate. This will be the introduction to the Solar System which will give the students information to use in their authentic assessment. They can view this via my laptop with the LCD Projector and a large screen. Although it will be a visual or graphic, it will also be part of the presentation. The graphic organizer will be the actual tabs that will show pictures of the different planets and then we will click on each planet to view more information which will be needed in the authentic assessment. Inspiration is an excelled software program that helps you create graphic organizers. I like this program more than the others because it allows the user to save the file as a PDF or JPEG file. Many of the other resources do not allow for specialized saving.

The program provides both text and visual elements to assist the learner. Purchase of the software is a condition of access to the teacher support and training areas.

Creating an online photobook is an excellent way to authentically assess your students. Mixbook is a free online resource that can be used to create this photobook. Students can import photos, decorate that pages, choose their own layout, and even order a hard copy. Parents and administrators love to see what the students are doing, and teachers can use the books to visually see what was accomplished and learned. I like Mixbook because it is easy to use, free, and creates great looking photobook "digital electronic portfolios".

This site allows the user to create online thinking tools such as visual ranking, seeing reason, and showing evidence. This site is useful, because it allows the user to show the relationships between key concepts of the workshop. The tools have tutorials, examples, and instructional strategies. This is a site that provides guidance and support for exploration with the tools.

iKnowthat.com has interactive, multimedia educational games and activities for kids in preschool through 6th grade in Math, Language Arts, Science, The Arts. and Social Studies. It also has thinking games and social learning. There is a progress tracker, activities are standards-based and it is a safe, social learning environment. The site is open to teacher, parents, and students. It is great visually and easy to navigate. The colors and graphics are bright, but no animated graphics. It is a free basic subscription and one can purchase a classroom subscription for $199 yearly. Parents can get an at home subscription for a monthly or yearly fee. Search can be done by grade level or subject.
