This site allows instructors to create a variety of graphic organizers to fit their instructional goals. The task seems simple, but the variety may become overwhelming. However, a graphic organizer allows learners to organize more than just information on a sheet. It allows them to organize information in their mind.

Tips for Effectively Teaching with Your Multimedia Presentation - 0 views

This site provides tips on presenting information in multimedia format. The site narrows down presentation tools to what is considered three big ones and does not overwhelm the reader with all the available tools. I like how the tips represent the link examples placing a visual and audio representation of the presentation tool in the reader's mind.

Google + hangouts is a free Google live video chat service that was launched during 2013. This Google application allows up to 10 users to be engaged synchronously through instant messaging and video. The program also allows users to share each other's computer screens while engaged in live video conference. Google + drive allow users to store several gigabytes of information, and since hangouts has numerous features that can be used to suit a wide variety of learning situations, I will use this program as one of the three artifacts for my multimedia workshop on flipped classroom instruction.

* Mastery Connect allows teachers to assess any content and curriculum, monitor student achievement, and report student mastery to parents and administrators. It provides curriculum maps, multi-standard benchmark assessments, integrated standards-based resources and allows for remediation and re-teaching. * I found Mastery Connect to be better than other authentic assessment activity resources due to the ability to view current mastery status of all students aligned with state and Common Core Standards, and to have built in resources to assist struggling students.

TeacherTube is a video sharing website with the same features as YouTube, but for educators. Unfortunately, in many school districts by content filtering systems, YouTube has been blocked due to some of the content that can be accessed on the site. TeacherTube allows educators and students the ability to access various educational videos, documents, blogs, groups, photos, and audio to utilize and share in the classroom while at school. Many of these educational resources can be used as pre-training materials to a workshop, such as with my workshop on storytelling; I would show a short video about what PBL means as a means to introduce participants to the concept and to explain that they will be using PBL to design their own storytelling lesson. TeacherTube is much easier to access while at school than YouTube, which is why I feel TeacherTube is a better working tool for educators to use rather than attempting to access YouTube videos.

Prezi is an online presentation software tool that allows you to create wonderful presentations that will capture your audience's attention. It can be used in the classroom as a teaching tool or with the students. I think this site was good because Prezi gives you basic setup options and lessons to assist you in creating your presentation and learning how to use it.

Prezi allows a presenter to make an online presentation similar to the standard PowerPoint, but with much more interest and relationship. The movement of the presentation is within words and photos using a zoom in or fly-over effect. Effective presentations can be created to show relationship. Additionally, using the tool with students does not require that they have the software at home to work outside of class (just a side note).

Prezi is like a PowerPoint but is more interesting. Video and other links can be embedded.

What it is: YouTube provides millions of free videos on every topic imaginable. However, in addition to finding videos, YouTubes new video editor allows users to create their own videos as well. Why it's better: YouTube provides a user-friendly interface that most are familiar with. Videos, images, sounds, text, and photos can all be combined to create instant videos that provide prior knowledge to students. All videos under 15 minutes are free. Since YouTube is a part of Google, all items are synced with your Google account. While there are many other free video creation tools available, YouTube truly does provide an easier experience.

YouTube offers users the opportunity to compile their work in the form of a video. One feature of YouTube is the capability of adding closed caption. Videos can be used for essential and generative learning because it provides a platform for learners to authentically demonstrate their understanding of the content.
PowerPoint with a Learning Point - 1 views

The topic of my multimedia workshop is on How to Utilize Multimedia to Create Effective Instructions. I plan to use PowerPoint as my multimedia artifact. In Jones (2005) article she establishes the fact that the technology of choice for most projects was PowerPoint. The main reasons for selecting PowerPoint for my multimedia project coincided with what was discussed in this article. PowerPoint is accessible and familiar to most educators and students. It is simple to use, can be created on desktop, visually stimulating, sounds or auditory stimulation can be added and can be use for cognitive abilities. In addition, PowerPoint has presentation versatility because it can be used as an original file, PDF format, and html format. It can also run with videos and have narration added. Finally, the software allows for interactivity. The focus of the multimedia workshop is to create a learner-centered approach to learning instead of a technology approach to learning; the software is used to facilitate this process (Jones 2005, p. 1). Mayer's (2008) active processing is when meaningful learning occurs and learners are engaged in the active cognitive processing during learning and instructors must figure out ways to prime the learners to pay attention to relevant material, and mentally organize the information and integrate the information based on their prior knowledge. The ability to actively process information can be associated students dynamic, collaborative and synergistic construction of significant knowledge within a multi-learning environment. Jones, D. (2009.). PowerPoint with a learning point. This is an excellent collaborative brainstorming tool for creating a mind map. This could be excellent for PreTraining or for a graphic organizer. Imagine your class having this open while you present key information, and they create their mind map of your concepts.

Bubbl us is a graphic organizer used to organize ideas. As I viewed the site, I thought I could offer this to my students who might be intimidated by the use of graphic organizers on the web. Using this site might reduce the extraneous process because the goal is to organize thoughts not learn a new tool.

The is online mind mapping software whre participants can create a graphic organizer online. Graphic organizers can be shared with friends or saved as a jpeg.

What it does: There are 36 different graphic organizers that teachers and students can print and use. Why this one: This site has 36 different graphic organizers for which permission is granted for educators to reproduce and utilize. The variety of organizers covers a large realm of different possibilities for different project. Learning benefits: Teachers can use these for themselves as well as students and could generate a great deal of ideas on how to incorporate into a multimedia method. The conversion from paper to electronic would serve two purposes - generative learning of creating an electronic version and the graphic organization of the lesson.

I know we only needed two pre-training websites, but I just wanted to include this one so that I did not forget about it, as I find it to be a great resource. What it does: Generates a list of synonyms for a chosen word. Provides a "mind map" type of chart for the synonyms. Why this one: It is extremely simple and quick to use. Teaches are always short on time. This is a resource that requires no learning time. Results are immediate. Learning benefits: The mind map results chart is great for generative learning. It launches possibilities from which a learner can begin brainstorming.

The Visual Thesaurus is an interactive dictionary and thesaurus that encourages exploration and learning. This program is easy to use and creates word maps that blossom with meanings and branch to related words, helping to understand the concepts to engage in the learning process.

What it does: Capture your keystrokes, mouse movement, and screens to teach someone how to do a procedure. You can add voice to explain it. Why this one? It is free and very easy to use. Learning curve is quick. I have used it for my company many times. Learning benefit? For essential learning, learners can see exactly what they are supposed to do. When they trial and error it on their own, if they make a mistake, they can easily go back and watch the video again to discover their possible mis-path
