Monica Loadholt on 09 Jun 11Museum Box is a great tool for Social Studies teachers and teachers of other content areas. A free tool, it allows teachers and students to create "boxes" of artifacts and information about a topic of their choosing. The focus is on cognitive activity on a student-focused level since users have to think through which artifacts and information would be most effective in terms of presenting the most valuable information about a topic of their own choosing. Even if the teacher assigns the topic to the student, it is still up to the student to choose which items to put in the box. I can see this tool working for Social Studies teachers as a way for their students to present what they have learned about a particular topic, but I can also see it being useful in my English Language Arts classroom as a way for my students to present information about the time period in which a novel occurs.

Smart Exchange is a place for teachers to locate notebook lessons that have been created by other teachers for all academic subjects. TeacherTube is a video sharing website with the same features as YouTube, but for educators. Unfortunately, in many school districts by content filtering systems, YouTube has been blocked due to some of the content that can be accessed on the site. TeacherTube allows educators and students the ability to access various educational videos, documents, blogs, groups, photos, and audio to utilize and share in the classroom while at school. Many of these educational resources can be used as pre-training materials to a workshop, such as with my workshop on storytelling; I would show a short video about what PBL means as a means to introduce participants to the concept and to explain that they will be using PBL to design their own storytelling lesson. TeacherTube is much easier to access while at school than YouTube, which is why I feel TeacherTube is a better working tool for educators to use rather than attempting to access YouTube videos.

Many teachers are not familiar with technology; therefore, they need extra support and help when incorporating new technology into the classroom. The video explains various aspects of using student response devises. The video is more technology centered than learner centered. The emphasis is placed on using technology to modify or enhance a lesson. Mayer, (2009) explains the technology centered approaches are not always the most effective. The learner needs to be the focus of the lesson not the technology. This instructional video focuses on the technology and not the learner. The video explains various aspects but many viewers might feel overwhelmed when listening because they do not understand the terminology.

An essential part to PD is establishing relevance to what happens in the classroom. For many teachers implementing additional strategies to struggling readers or ELLs may seem overwhelming. Many teachers may already be using ESOL strategies in the classroom and may not even know it! Using this list of reading activities as a primer for background knowledge for some and a pre-training activity for others will help teachers realize that many ESOL strategies are just good educational practice. The Reading Resource is a clearinghouse of effective strategies for reading and although it is a bit difficult to navigate, it has a lot of resources for teachers from all educational levels.

This website offers a variety of graphic organizers that can be implemented into the classroom. There are pre-made organizers and blank templates that can be used. These graphic organizers can be implemented in all content areas. -
Teacher Vision is a good site to print off graphic organizers that are already created. It allows teachers to focus the type of graphic organizer to the age level of their students. This will be helpful because I am dealing with teachers that teach grade levels K-5 and students' with special needs.
