Video: Check accessibility of a PowerPoint 2010 presentation - 0 views

  •
This presentation provides information for instructors wishing to incorporate presentations into their course material and still provide ADA compliance. The video provided instructions for checking presentations created in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 for accessibility and how to correct those issues. This again is an example of Mayer's dual channel learning.

This site is a complement to the first one as it contains a video tutorial for the visual learners. The narrator has a very casual tone of voice. He is calm and composed. He goes through the tutorial at a very comfortable pace which makes him easy to follow. The learner can pause the video at anytime to practice what they've learned

BrainPop - 5 views

  •
This site is a great icebreaker to a new topic. It provides easy to understand basics on any topic that you might teach. I would encourage teachers to use the quiz program to assess what students already know at the start of the lesson.

Voki Home - 0 views

  •
Voki can be used for pretraining. Students can create avartars and record their own voices delivering speeches. It promotes essential learning because it can be used to introduce important concepts before a lesson begins. I chose this site because it allowed users to overlay their voices, and it is a reputable site.
  •
Voki is a great website that allows users to create speaking avatars. It provides a variety of different avatars that can be selected, including historical figures. You can add speech using typed text, recorded voice or your cell phone. This would be great if you had limited access to a microphone or other recording hardware. Voki also provides users with the ability to change the voice that is speaking. For teachers, it provides lesson plan ideas incorporating Voki. Voki Classroom allows teachers to set up accounts for their student without requiring an email address, which is a great feature for elementary aged students.

Thinking Worlds - 0 views

  •
Thinking Worlds is a software application that makes the creation of virtual worlds relatively simple in comparison to other applications. Users can design and publish virtual worlds as simple or as complex as necessary for given projects. In circumstances where the training is geared around more "hands on" initiatives, or where participants will participate remotely, virtual worlds can provide more interaction and context for learning. This type of simulated environment is often very expensive to develop and very complicated to manage. As the technology improves, however, innovative applications such as Thinking Worlds make the process much more efficient and cost-effective.

Beautiful web-based timeline software - 2 views

  •
What it is: Tiki-Toki provides a free timeline creator that allows users to create original and creative timelines on any subject matter. Why it's better: Tiki-Toki is a web-based software that requires no prior downloading. With a premium subscription, users may collaborate on a single timeline. In addition, the software allows users to insert images, sounds, and/or videos into their timelines. Users can create multiple categories using different color schemes all within the same timeline. Timelines may also be embedded into individual websites for easy access.
  •
o Tiki-toki is a website where learners can create interactive timelines. Learners set timing, diving time into periods, and add events. Furthermore, they can embed graphics, videos, links, and information on each timeline item. Generative learning, or as Mayer (2009) described it, is cognitive processing to make sense of the material. This processing is supported by the site as learners can peruse through a time period to identify and demonstrate their understanding of major events. For English Language Learners, this tool allows learners to show what they understand even when they may not have all the language necessary to write an entire essay on a particular time period. o The site is relatively easy to use, but most importantly creates a superb final product. The timelines can be viewed in various ways including even a 3D view which can make history come alive for students.
