How Poverty Leads to Social Injustice - 0 views

  •
This article talks about how closely linked poverty and social justice are. Those living in poverty are in their situation because that have not had equal access and opportunity. The best way to alleviate poverty is to focus on providing equal opportunity to everyone.
  •
I agree with statements made in the article about the inequalities that people who live in poverty suffer. Much of this social issue has to do a lot with race and legal status which often times determines eligibility for many programs that should be helping those in need. There is an overwhelming population over looked and discriminated against, adding more fuel to the fire. The number of people affected by poverty is concerning as there should be no reason that they are not receiving the help they need. Very informative article about the subject.

I also agree how there are inequalities for people that are in poverty just because of their race and legal status also how it determines they are eligiliable for healthcare, and etc.

Equal Pay - 5 views

  •
Women deserve equal pay. On average, they are paid less than their male counterparts. It effects their spending power and what women receive in their social security.

This is a really good article because it also talks about how race affects the pay gap. Most articles I find on the topic ignore how non-white women are paid less than white women. The struggle for mothers attempting to reenter the workplace is horrible.
  •
A reality unfortunately, in our society. It is almost hilarious how you read on all papers when you are hired :"we are an equal opportunity employer, no discrimination of any kind..." and yet the first thing you notice is the pay you get in comparison with a man who is less qualified than you but...he is a man. And, as kat2222004 pointed, very hard for mothers to reenter the work field, the mother is not trusted anymore to be a reliable employee.
  •
Really good article. I saw this as I was choosing a topic to discuss in our discussion last week. I 100% agree that women should receive the same pay as men. Women are such hard workers whether it is in the work force, or for those who have to maintain a family as well.
  •
The 77 cent claim has been repeatedly refuted because it does not accommodate for the fact that women are more likely to choose lower paying jobs or jobs with benefits. Men on average work longer hours. Single, childless women in major cities earn more than men. Women obtain 58% of college degrees. Women are less likely to go into STEM jobs. Also statistics are easily manipulated. Watch TJ explain the wage gap https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWAlg48fNwE

I definitely agree with this article. Even if some people like to think this isn't a problem it definitely is. For men and women in the same field regardless of what that field is men often get the higher income than women do. My mother is a major example of this and often talks about how the men in the same department as her make more money even when they produce less work that generally isn't that good. On top of that my mother works the same amount of hours and even more than average in a given week yet still doesn't come close to the pay gap. Of course, there may be inconsistency in statistics but it is definitely still an issue to be aware of because it still exists.

Why Social Justice in School Matters | NEA - 0 views

  •
In school today there is not fair treatment across-the-board. There needs to be fair and equal treatment given to everyone despite race, age, sexuality, or ability.
  •
Social justice should be more awareness in every school. It seems that there is no respect no human treatment. Every one should be cautions in how treat people and not divided by race, age and more.
  •
Interesting article about how social justice can effect school outcomes.

I love how this website uses graphics to explain the ideas. I also think it has shocking statistics and information.

This article was extremely intriguing. It gives wonderful statistics between the gender equality differences of men and women. The hardest one I found to believe was the difference between pay of men and women in the medical profession of surgeons and physicians.

Community marches for social justice - 0 views

  •
About 700 to 1,000 activists came out to voice their opinion for change during the March for Social Justice and Equality in Murray, chanting and holding signs with ambitions to send a message to the new presidential administration on the first day of the term. This is widely known as the "Women's March." It was much more than the dislike of Donald Trump, or abortion, it was about other social justices such as defending people of different colors, races, and sexual origin.

The Gender Pay Gap in Nursing - 4 views

the gender pay gap in nursing. Men make more money than woman nurses

It bottles my mind of how women are still in equal to men. We are more advanced now than the 1900's. We should be able to treat women the same across all platforms especially healthcare.
  •
There definitely needs to be a change in this, gender inequality shouldn't be an issue anymore. Especially when the majority of nurses are women.
  •
This is so interesting I had no idea about this one reading the article is mind-boggling how can they justify paying someone less solely based on their gender. Amazing read!
  •
It really makes me angry that anyone could think that this is okay. Someone's pay should be dictated by the work they put in instead of their gender or race.
  •
The fact that this sort of inequality still exists just based on sex is crazy! And like your article states, gender is not the only affected area, but black, indigenous and people of color as well. Pay should vary on knowledge and performance, not ones ethnicity.
