The Effects of Immigration on the United States' Economy - Penn Wharton Budget Model - 2 views

  •
An article from a college about statistics and effects immigration has on our economy. Negative or positive you make up your mind on how immigration effects us.
  •
Definitely a topic I always find myself neutral. I try to have positive outlooks with the U.S. being the number 1 with the immigration. I get that most immigrants come here for the American dream (freedom) but then I think shouldn't they come here the right way by becoming a citizen first? Since we would have to as well if we were to go live in their countries. Then I see stuff on the news in the U.S. about shootings, bombs, etc caused by an immigrant. That would be my negative outlook.
  •
This article was very interesting. I have often wondered what the effects of immigration are, and if they affect the economy positively or negatively.

Chicago laying off 500 teachers - 1 views

  •
This article is about the layoff of 500 Chicago teachers. Budget cuts have been made over the years causing a lot of teachers to be laid off.
  • ...1 more comment...
  •
i believe this is wrong considering the fact that teachers have to pay to go to school to get this job and then they are receiving layoffs. that is not okay. this is why we need to recognize the importance of education.
  •
That is very crazy to hear. Of course budget cuts occur all the time at schools but something as grave as letting go over 500 teachers is quite absurd. I mean I guess if they felt that they had to do that then so be it but without teachers then who will be teaching the students of the future?
  •
It's crazy to hear about so many teachers getting laid off, I mean we need education for now and the future. It's mind blowing to know that we have such a poor system for teachers, I feel like they should get paid way more than what they get they spend more time with our children than we do.

The Wall and US economic impact - 0 views

  •
This web site shows the negative impact on building a border wall with Mexico. It shows the numbers of US workers and Mexican workers affected by this decision. It shows how much capitol could be lost each day once the wall is built.
  •
Great find! I think that there is no real thought being put into the whole wall situation. Both the U.S. and Mexico have benefited from the ability to import and export goods providing jobs for both sides. The relationship that our current president is establishing will definitely impact our economy in a negative way.
  •
Excellent article! I agree with dennibro about the thought process behind it. First they were going to pay for it, now we are. Then the whole subject of who was going to be paying for this wall started to be backtracked. I think not only is it going to cost an astronomical amount of money to build, it will also cost us a lot to maintain it. I think a better idea is needed.

Also shares how even though your work may pay for you healthcare, you're still the one getting gyped.

I actually wrote a presentation last semester on how the U.S. healthcare system is flawed. In my presentation, I outlined issues such as these. It's refreshing to see others share my views. Personally, this is an interesting read, as I intend on being a part of the healthcare industry. That being said, I believe future generations of healthcare workers need to be educated in matters such as these, so that one day, we may hopefully be able to "fix the system."
  •
America's healthcare is the most expensive amongst industrialized nations. But higher costs aren't leading to a healthier population or longer life expectancy. The high cost of healthcare negatively affects the American economy in many ways.
  •
I found this article to be very fascinating indeed. I hope that one day we will have a health care system that is excess-able to all Americans. Hopefully a solution will be properly found during our life time.
