COVID-19 Impact on Arizona Students Education and Economically - 4 views

  •
Amidst the global pandemic, Arizona states students are failing statewide tests in both English and Math this spring with alarming numbers. Education officials had previously advised "extreme caution" in regards to making conclusions based on the number of cases. Disruptions to in-person learning during the pandemic due to the dramatic impact on student learning suggest "inferences may be invalid", according to the department. This years tests also painted a demographic split as White and Asian students passed these exams at twice as POC students. COVID-19 pandemic has had a disparate impact on communities of color, both economically and in loss of life.
  •
That's crazy to hear Covid has had such a negative impact on students performance in school, it's really disheartening. It is a rough transition going from learning in school, then trying to teach yourself through online school in quarantine, it's definitely not for everyone.

Raising the Minimum Wage Won't Reduce Inequality - 0 views

  •
Christos Makridis, the author of this article, through his research has discovered that raising the minimum wage does not improve the issue of inequality in America, but that it has a negative impact on the workers it attempts to help. The author explains this negative impact by giving examples such as employers reducing hours which causes a lack of skill development due to lack of hours, also employers will not be able to have many incentives for new employees. The author suggested ways for reducing inequality in the latter half of his article by giving business more freedom in determining the wages and that businesses would educate their employees in an effort to increase their profitability and thus raising the wages of their employees.

Making the Economic Case for More Than the Minimum Wage - 1 views

  •
In his January 2014 State of the Union address, President Obama called for a new federal minimum wage of $10.10 an hour. The year before, in the same speech, he proposed a $9 minimum wage. This article addresses the different reasons to increase and the issues with increasing the minimum wage. it discusses how it has changed over the years and states that the original minimum wage was 25 cents an hour back in 1938. There are quite a few interesting stats in this article.
  •
I definitely that Obamas move to raise the minimum wage has caused more problems than it has done good. It's only created a sense of working less, doing less for more pay. People don't want to work hard, get an education, or persue a career goal in order to make money. It's seems more common that people just want what's easy and what gives them the most for their own selfish desires.
