Interesting article from Britain regarding computational fluency. I don't disagree that being fluent with computation increases a students future capabilities, but there is not necessarily causal effect that 'traditional' approaches to teaching computation make stronger mathematics students. It's the rigorous approach that I think needs to be emphasized.

The Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) was developed to help guide the complex task of evaluating technology integration in the classroom. Nice description of one way of developing an online/blended course model. I applaud Stacey's choice to do it, tweak later, rather than postpone doing it because it's "not 100% ready".

Obviously,I'm not a writing expert, but I love how this post describes the writing process this teacher is using at Duke with her students. The peer editing process is tested and this approach uses a screencast (video that can include audio of what is happening on a computer- mouse movements, ability to highlight text while commenting, etc.) I think it's right up our alley and incorporates free technology.

Great file sharing option for those who like to have access to files on different computers or want to create backups. Also, great for collaborating with others.

OK, I'm not an artist but I SEE this as a tool for writing to learn and writing to publish. I think it would allow students to express their understandings in different ways and then be able to share to a wide audience. If you have a pentab computer this would be an awesome tool to use with kids, because it's easier to export than microsoft journal drawings.

Is this the direction textbooks will take in the near future? The content is important and is the center of this idea. It's also slightly portable (downloadable, accessible on up t o3 computers, and able to print 30%). This site makes annotations possible and more importantly sharable! The content is supported by learning communities! I like this idea; you even have the possibility of sharing beyond your classroom walls.
