ScienceOnline2012 Sci-Art Show: The Winners | Symbiartic, Scientific American Blog Network - 3 views

Great post about ScienceOnline2012 Sci-Art Show. I love the combination of art and science. The ability to tell a scientific story through art, metaphor, and imagery is a skill that I think we need to develop. This is a great example of why STEM needs to be STEAM. Not only does it allow us to tell the scientific story but it allows us to tell the story to mass audiences to at least get people involved in the process.

If anyone is looking to have students create digital products, this is a great site to consider as an option for students. Create 3D popup books that students can use to tell their story and share.

Magnoto is a little like glogster. It's a nice little project tool. It is in beta and may not be stable enough for mass use, but it is pretty user friendly and can allow 5 people to work together on the same project. Each person can have their own page or can work together to create one page.

My StoryMaker : Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh - 3 views

  • My StoryMaker lets you control characters and objects - and creates sentences for you! Once you are done with your story, you can print it out. You cannot go back and edit a story once you have ended it but, if you click "yes" when asked to share it with others, you can print it out again by entering the magic number it gives you in the box on the right. Since lack of space forces us to delete story files older than 1 month, please save the .pdf file that prints to your own computer.

Reflections of a High School Math Teacher: Using Flip Videos in High School Math Class - 3 views

  •
Interesting approach to using flip in a mathematics classroom. I love having students create product rather than just solving problems. I would even like to see students create their own problems in the future.

paper.li - read Twitter and Facebook as a daily newspaper - 0 views

  •
Use your twitter or facebook feeds to create a newspaper to really maximize your PLN. Paper.li links to posted links, and puts them into categories.  Similar to PostPost for Facebook. Check out this great example: http://paper.li/ITLynda If you have a classroom twitter account this would be a great way of organizing all of the classes  tweets into publishable 'paper'

Web 2.0 Storytelling: Emergence of a New Genre | EDUCAUSE CONNECT - 0 views

"A story is told by one person or by a creative team to an audience that is usually quiet, even receptive. Or at least that's what a story used to be, and that's how a story used to be told. Today, with digital networks and social media, this pattern is changing. Stories now are open-ended, branching, hyperlinked, cross-media, participatory, exploratory, and unpredictable. And they are told in new ways: Web 2.0 storytelling picks up these new types of stories and runs with them, accelerating the pace of creation and participation while revealing new directions for narratives to flow." Storytelling is changing how are you going to let your students tell stories? Great article, especially if you've never thought about digital storytelling before. I like the idea that storytelling is no longer a passive reception, but an inclusive/participatory activity when expanded into remixing or open-ended. Presents lots of different possible modes, so you can pick one and go with it, open it up for students, and expand your horizons as students use tools differently than you to achieve their story.
