Office in Education - Are your students getting it? Find out with Interactive Classroom - 37 views

  •
"In a nutshell, it works like this: You create presentations in PowerPoint, and \nInteractive Classroom helps you insert real time knowledge checks (called polls) \nalong the way. Polls can include multiple choice, yes/no, or true/false \nquestions, and they seamlessly integrate with the lesson you're teaching. \n\nStudents can connect to your presentation by joining an Interactive \nClassroom session that you create (note that your students will need a network \nconnection). After students join-and it's easy to do, so don't worry about \nspending half your class time setting it up-they see your presentation and the \npoll question(s) you've included in their own OneNote notebook. Students can \nanswer poll questions in OneNote, and you get real-time feedback in the charting \nformat you choose. You can add text or draw on your slides during the session, \nand your students will see the changes you've made in OneNote. They can also add \ntheir own comments and notes on the presentation."

7 Things You Should Know About Google Jockeying | EDUCAUSE CONNECT - 0 views

  •
A Google jockey is a participant in a presentation or class who surfs the Internet for terms, ideas, Web sites, or resources mentioned by the presenter or related to the topic. The jockey's searches are displayed simultaneously with the presentation, helping to clarify the main topic and extend learning opportunities. The "7 Things You Should Know About..." series from the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI) provides concise information on emerging learning practices and technologies. Each brief focuses on a single practice or technology and describes what it is, where it is going, and why it matters to teaching and learning. Use "7 Things You Should Know About..." briefs for a no-jargon, quick overview of a topic and share them with time-pressed colleagues. In addition to the "7 Things You Should Know About…" briefs, you may find other ELI resources useful in addressing teaching, learning, and technology issues at your institution. To learn more, please visit the ELI Resources page.

There has been a lot of buzz about Twitter and blogging during presentations and conferences lately. There seems to be two camps: those that advocate the use of Twitter and live-blogging and those that don't.

Cognitive Load Theory - UKEdChat - 0 views

  •
We all get overloaded from time to time, especially toward the end of a term when your todo list turns from being measured by points to metres. We all have our own capacity to deal with the issues at hand, and the ideas behind Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) attempt to maximise our bandwidth while streamlining the signals. The origins of the theory go back to the 1980s when a plethora of digital innovations changed how presentations were done in the business world. This trickled down in the following decades into how teachers presented ideas, moving away from blackboard and Over-Head Projectors to digitalised PowerPoint presentations. As with any new innovation, form overcame function, and for a period in the early noughties, I swear it must have been the law to cram as many animations and sound effects into every PowerPoint, and reading every word from the screen aloud was mandatory.
