Information on ongoing study being sponsored by Shriners Hospitals for Children. Study is currently recruiting participants to develop an analysis method for the use of Wavelet Analysis of Electromyography (EMG) in Cerebral Palsy to evaluate motor function in children with cerebral palsy

Study will examine how the brain controls speech in patients with spasmodic dysphonia, a voice disorder that involves involuntary spasms of muscles in the larynx (voice box), causing breaks in speech. Although the causes of spasmodic dysphonia are unknown, recent studies found changes in brain function in patients with the disorder that may play a role in its development.

Clinical trial being sponsored by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development NICHD to evaluate whether induced whole-body hypothermia initiated between 6-24 hours of age and continued for 96 hours in infants ≥ 36 weeks gestational age with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy will reduce the incidence of death or disability at 18-24 months of age.

Study will collect information on the different ways people control limb and body movements. This information will be used to develop a database on normal movements and adaptive movements of people who have diseases that affect the way they move. Cincinnati Children's is conducting a research project to study the white matter of the brain in children with hydrocephalus (white matter connects areas in the brain responsible for normal function). Assessments will be done through MRIs and neuropsychological tests of behavior and development.

The relation between eye movement and brain function is a subject of interest to the National Eye Institute. By comparing eye movement in healthy volunteers to research conducted on patients who have difficulty moving their eyes, the National Eye Institute hopes to develop and improve diagnostic procedures for people with eye diseases. The congressional legislation that created the National Eye Institute (NEI) mandates research on amelioration of the impact of impaired vision and blindness on health and well- being. The current NEI research program on visual impairment and its rehabilitation can be divided into six areas. Laboratory research is a fundamental yet often underappreciated pillar of research on visual impairment and blindness.
