Mayo research study to determine if there are enough patients with hard to treat epilepsy that might qualify for a future study of a medical device that is being developed to treat epilepsy. Participants will not be testing the device during this study. The study doctor will be assessing seizure type(s) and determine how frequently they occur, and to verify if antiseizure medications can be held constant for a period of 12 weeks.

Hypothesis of study is that among women with twin or triplet pregnancies, weekly injections of 17-alpha-hydroxyprogesterone caproate (17OHP), started before 24 weeks of gestation, will reduce neonatal morbidity by reducing the rate of preterm delivery.This study involves two concurrent double-blinded randomized clinical trials of 17OHP versus placebo. Each trial will test the efficacy and safety of 17OHP in women with a specific risk factor for preterm birth. The two risk factors to be studied are: Twin pregnancy - Triplet pregnancy

Constraint-Induced Movement (CI) therapy has been found to be a promising treatment for substantially increasing the use of extremities affected by such neurologic injuries as stroke and traumatic brain injury in adults. The purpose of this study was to determine the applicability of this intervention to young children with cerebral palsy. Study concluded that Pediatric Constraint Induced Therapy produced major and sustained improvement in motoric function in the young children with hemiparesis in the study.

Duke University and Multicenter, Open-label Study to Investigate the Safety, Tolerability and Pharmacokinetics of Lacosamine (LCM) Oral Solution (syrup) as Adjunctive Therapy in Children with Partial Onset Seizures. This study is being done to test the safety of the study drug Lacosamide (LCM) syrup and how the body processes it.

The Metropolitan Atlanta Developmental Disabilities Study (MADDS) was the first U.S., population-based epidemiologic study of the prevalence of intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, hearing loss, vision impairment, and epilepsy in school-aged children. National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD) staff have written scientific papers using information from MADDS. These papers look at such topics as how common autism spectrum disorders are and what causes hearing loss in children. Objective of this study is to learn more about the disease chronic pancreatitis and thus contribute to better treatments. The investigators will gain this by studying the effects of vitamin D in the body immune system and bones. The investigators will also study the uptake of vitamin D through the intestine compared with the amount of vitamin D obtained through exposure to UVB rays.

Abstract - CONTEXT: Chorioamnionitis has been implicated in the pathogenesis of cerebral palsy, but most studies have not reported a significant association. Cystic periventricular leukomalacia (cPVL) is believed to be a precursor of cerebral palsy in preterm infants. OBJECTIVES of the study is to determine whether chorioamnionitis is associated with cerebral palsy or cPVL and to examine factors that may explain differences in study results.

Completed study. In this feasibility study, hyperoxemia, as proximated by transcutaneous hemoglobin saturation with oxygen (Sp02), at the time of birth will cause sustained pulmonary oxidative stress as demonstrated by elevation of ulmonary protein carbonyl. Furthermore, this oxidative stress will be directly proportional to the imposed oxygen-burden during resuscitation at the time of birth. This study will give us information regarding the magnitude of protein carbonyl elevation in the preterm infant. With these results we will be able to 1. establish the technique for the running or protein carbonyl assays and 2. calculate an appropriate sample size for a future randomized control trial.

Study being conducted to evaluate whether the use of bracing lowers the risk of curve progression in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). The study will compare changes in the spinal curve over time in participants who wear a brace and those who do not.

Proposed study is designed to evaluate patients at particular risk for preterm delivery; those with advanced cervical exam. In this randomized prospective controlled study, we intend to examine the influence of adjunctive antibiotic use in preterm labor complicated by a cervical exam of 4 cm or greater. The investigators in this study sponsored by the University of Michigan are working on a tool to help people who are severely paralyzed. This tool is called a brain-computer interface (BCI). BCIs can connect to computers or other electronic devices, such as a power wheelchair. In this study, patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) will be able to control the tilt feature of their power wheelchair using only brainwaves, allowing for independent control.

Sweden study to compare the efficacy in detecting signs of fetal hypoxia in labour of intermittent (I-group) versus continuous (C-group) electronic fetal monitoring in women with low or moderate risk factors for fetal distress. Study concluded that Intermittent use of electronic fetal monitoring at regular intervals (with stethoscopic auscultation in between) appears to be as safe as continuous electronic fetal monitoring in low risk labours. prospective, randomised study."
