Eveleen, check out the design of this app. It has similar but limited functions compared to MobileGeo. But its user interface looks promising!

As cool as Chirp is for fun, personal sharing, it's even better for mass communications. For example, TV shows constantly tell viewers to follow them on Twitter or go to some web site. What they're doing is giving the audience a homework assignment, making them type a code in order to receive some information. However, with Chirp, TV shows could just play the chirps. Viewers watching at home would passively receive all the content chirped by the show. TV shows could allow photo "uploads" by phone, too. You can imagine TV shows providing a number that has an answering machine. Users could snap a picture, then leave the chirp of the picture as a message on the machine. It works just as well on radio, on podcasts, in videos and any situation where sound is involved.

Another factor that is not as obvious but perhaps even more important is motivation. When you're working hard on something, without any guarantee of success, doubting yourself and losing motivation is easy, and this circumstance often leads people to abandon otherwise promising projects. Raising awareness and collecting email addresses long before launch does two things to combat this lack of motivation. First, by putting the project out there, you make it much harder for yourself to quit, because we all hate to let people down. Open source and Closed source mobile platform faces security issue. An open source platform may be more prone to malwares and viruses. Some factors we should consider in our context here in education to protecting confidential contents and issues while considering developing apps. for example we could risk all of our contacts information being stolen and end up being sold to some advertising spamming companies who spam you daily or watches your daily activities.

I used to think open source platform was very good for development but now you can have different view if you think like a hacker. It will take at least a year or more before mobile security catch up.

Harry Walker is the principal of Sandy Plains Elementary School in Baltimore County, Maryland. Fourth and fifth graders at the school are piloting one-to-one computing with iPod touches. In addition, Harry is a doctoral student at John Hopkins University. He's investigating the impact of iPod touch on student achievement. One of his challenges is wading through the huge number apps available. He's crafted a rubric to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of an app in terms of how it may impact student achievement. His criteria include curriculum connection, authenticity, feedback, differentiation, user friendliness, and student motivation.

This can be used as a guideline for the ETs when evaluating apps.
