  • Because starting now, YouTube is giving users a choice over how they want to license their content. There’s still the standard YouTube license, which is fairly restrictive, and now there’s a new option: Creative Commons (with attribution). In short, you can now give other people permission to use your footage however they’d like, provided to include a link back to the source.
  • So, what does this mean for users? You’ll now be able to use YouTube’s video editor to splice your own video with content that has been uploaded by other users under Creative Commons, and they’ll be able to use your videos if you let them.

  • ELearning animated assets, for example quick product demonstrations, are ideal for posting to a site such as YouTube or Vimeo. Not only do these sorts of demonstrations provide concise, targeted training but they can also be teasers to draw people to more formal learning, such as a full training course, of which the demonstration is just a part.
  • Another easy way to informalize formal learning content is to reposition it closer to a product rather than have it stand alone. It is possible to convert portions of a Web-based eLearning course to “digital cheat sheets” and to incorporate these in product documentation, or embed them into the product itself. These can also serve as teasers to draw people back for additional or advanced formal training.

    A research paper on how low-tech SMS can be highly effective for certain learning tasks such as teaching social English. And now, there's Whatsapp and other social-messaging platforms that can be an intermediate level between simple text messages that work on any basic phone, to sophisticated native apps that must be programmed for a specific operating system. "As SMS is technologically and functionally very simple, it can be considered to be a relatively primitive  technology. However, viewing it from another angle, we see that SMS ranks very highly in terms of user  convenience. Successful uptake of mobile learning strategy is more likely in the situation when "learning activities can integrate into our lives in an unobtrusive fashion". SMS can deliver information in this unobtrusive fashion more readily than other strategies. SMS, thus, can be regarded as a practical and realistic mLearning technology for use in natural settings at present."

  • social media is kind of a blurred line when it comes to whether a push or pull strategy is most effective and even more so when it comes to what tactics are TRULY push and TRULY pull. Social media is so interactive and has so many facets to it, that I think traditional push and pull strategies will be redefined to match our generation and the channels that we’re able to market on.

    I've checked it out. Actually, it's not Google code, but simply an open-source native app stored in Google Projects, an open-source code repository. Nevertheless, it's a good mind-mapping software. Only thing is that it doesn't use Google Drive and I'm not sure if it can be integrated easily into Google Sites (due to Google Sites having issues with iframe elements).

    I tried, cool! The map mind can be embedded in google site. Interface of mind map is easy to use, allow embed youtube link, images, and audio, attachment and links. Free for 3 mindmap and allow collaboration, invite is similar to Google for edit/read rights. There is also have icon, chat, comments and collaborative editing. Yeu Ann, we can include that as guide in student portfolio.

  • Designers love to hate skeuomorphism. It’s just decoration, they say. It’s completely useless. It will go out of style. Or as Mark Boulton, co-founder of Five Simple Steps, put it on twitter: I really wish everyone would stop making digital things look like real things. A screen is not a drop shadowed, bevelled, wooden plank. Yet Apple and many other software developers continue to use it heavily in some of their apps. Many hate without asking: Why? Why is Apple and so many others continuing down this path? They have all lost their sense of good design, surely. No?
  • Skeuomorphism is about communcating and reinforcing feelings – getting an application to become a memorable experience, not just a tool. It’s about communicating the purpose of a UI, not only the functions it enables.
  • An interface that is not only easy to use, but fun to use, engages the user and creates an experience where obstacles are easier to overcome, and thus an experience where the product is easier and more effortless to use. Done right, skeuomorphism can retain the simplicity and ease of use of an interface while empowering users to act.
