How Not to Steal People's Content on the Web - 0 views

  • How to Cite Content in Social Media When you're sharing someone else's content in social media, the approach you take to give proper credit changes depending on the social network.
  • To Cite Someone's Content on Twitter: Simply include a "via @username" somewhere in the tweet. If you're retweeting someone's content but you edit their original tweet, be sure to change "RT" to "MT," which stands for "modified tweet."
  • To Cite Someone's Content on Facebook: Facebook makes it pretty easy to give credit when you're sharing someone else's content right from their own timeline -- they have a 'Share' button ready and waiting for you! If you're citing content from elsewhere on the web, but want to give attribution to another person or company -- like we did to Marketing Land below for breaking a news story -- you can find that person/company on Facebook and link to their Facebook Timeline in the status update.

  • Finally, if you're sharing content from another source and they don't have a Facebook page (tsk tsk!), then the link to their piece of content will suffice.
  • To Cite Someone's Content on Google+: On Google+, it's customary to include the name of the person or company whose content you're citing in the text of your update, because you can then link to their Google+ profile, much like you would do on Facebook. Simply include a + or @ and their Google+ name -- they'll pre-populate just like they do on Facebook!

    Hi Ashley, I've been reading through this section for developers: http://tincanapi.com/page-developers/. From what I understand so far, an LRS should do at least one of the following: - Standardize and serialize the various types of data from different networks (e.g. Twitter, Facebook) into an LMS-friendly format - Act as a stand-alone enterprise-level web-service from which other web-services can extract the collated data for their own usage. The Tin Can APIs look useful so far for our own use (including mobile support), since they support Javascript, Objective C and Java. I believe these APIs can link up with Google Enterprise Apps for greater LRS functionality too.

    Ah, that's good news indeed if Google Enterprise Apps are friendly towards this strategy. Keep monitoring. Things tend to change rapidly with Google!

  • Above, you can see an image of my screen while reading a PDF titled The Internet of things: Networked objects and smart devices. I highlighted the name of a company quoted in the report and with two quick clicks I was watching a YouTube video of a product demo. I highlighted an expert's name and was able to learn all about their career and find them on Twitter - without leaving the page.

      I heart Edmodo coz it allows you to embed other web 2.0 tools like voicethread! I also find it user-friendly and a reasonable replacement for an LMS. Strangely because it's micro-blogging, ppl associate it with twitter but I agree, its very much like FB!

      I couldn't agree more with this final statement stating that social networking is vital to Gen Y workers. We communicate more openly and collaboratively through this medium. And it should be encouraged rather than being stopped.

To add on to your point, I think for the Gen-Yers, social media tools also facilitate on-going collaboration by engaging the emotive power of relational bonds to help bring everyone onto the same page. For instance, when: Setting up a wiki for those in a new-hire induction program to work together to edit a FAQs page for use by the next group coming to the program Having managers-in-training use a microblogging tool for a leadership book-club discussion Helping to support and participating in a community of the organization’s customer service reps, to give them a place to share war stories and strategies for dealing with challenges           So just using the online tools to deliver content doesn’t support “social learning;” that happens when you use the tools to invite interaction from and between the learners. It’s about social, not media, and it’s about shared learning, not just pushing content.
