So many ideas it is almost overwhelming:)

These are established Language Practice Hangouts for language. But, I thought this would be a great idea for an extension of speaking in class. It could be voluntary or mandatory. Would be neat, too, if kids who have moved on to upper levels moderated the Hangout from time to time.

The article describes how to engage students in classroom activities using Padlet App. This multimedia friendly tool encourages real time full class participation. Ooh, the internet tells me it's Free Voluntary Reading. This is an interesting article. I'm not sure it would be directly applicable to any of the classes I teach right now, but it's good food for thought.

Thanks! I used GS so much this past year, and yet did not use it deliberately to encourage collaboration and community-building. This gives me great ideas.

I found that Canva is a great tool to create a infographic. It sometimes took hours to find the infographic I wanted online, but now I can create the one in a way I want. I just tried to make one in Japanese:) . I would like to see other ways to use this tool.

I really enjoyed using Canva in my project this week. It's really nice and easy to use (and I like the app for my phone). I can imagine using the poster project and the student profile project in my classroom.

Since others posted tutorials, I chose an article from a teacher who shares its value.

I really like this instructor's take on communication in the classroom, and how to use FlipGrid to foster it.

I loved the story of Connie who was nervous to speak in class but felt comfortable and excelled in flipgrid! Her picture was Sully from Monsters inc which gave me the idea of having students use dolls or stuffed animals to present stories on flip grid in the voice of that character.

Helpful source for creative ideas to enliven the classroom.

The blog consists of three parts: Blog, Teaching Toolbox, and Workshops. We can read about issues, tips, comments that are pertinent to language instruction. Teachertoolbox provides new resources and activity ideas. We can find where and what kind of PDs are available in Workshops. The world language consultants, Kara Parker and Megan Smith are the authors of this bog. They understand the challenges language teachers are facing and believe it is very important to provide and share resources and support each other to stay being an effective language teacher.

How to use Glogster to make posters or for digital storytelling.

This could be really useful for study abroad reflection too!

I tried this one at the beginning of the week, but gave up after not being able to type accent marks in Spanish. I like the idea of creating posters or "one pager" presentations.

Good discussion of "authenticity" -- what makes a text authentic or not?

"Authentic" appears to mean: naturally produced by authentic source for communication in a native setting. What concerns me is that the call for "authentic" dates back to perhaps 20 years ago? We are still claiming it is important, yet we scaffold authentic text often to the point that they loose their intrinsic challenge.

Another FB idea, but this is not connected to the real facebook. I'm not sure classmates can interact with these "fake" profiles. Still, might be fun.

A little off-topic for Week 5 but overall relevant to this course.

"The use of technology is not a goal in and of itself; rather technology is one tool that supports language learners as they use the target language in culturally appropriate ways to accomplish authentic tasks." This quote stood out to me and it is so true. sometimes we feel pressured to use technology but we forgot the pedagogy purpose.

Thanks for sharing it. We are using technology for our language lessons. I agree what ACFLT says about having clear that tech is a tool not a goal since the most important aspect is the learning.
