Show What You Know Using Web & Mobile Apps - Version 4 - Learning in Hand - 2 views

  •
"Nowadays teachers and students have a variety of ways to show what they know and to express themselves. Take a look at some of the hottest online and mobile tools for showing, explaining, and retelling in my infographic, "Show What You Know Using Web & Mobile Apps." These web and iPad apps can turn students into teachers and teachers into super-teachers! Furthermore, most of the apps listed in the infographic are free of charge. Updated February 2015 with 11 of the 44 apps in "Show What You Know" replaced with even better apps! New additions include Chatterpix Kids, RecorderHQ, Vocaroo (to replace the defunct RecordMP3), Shadow Puppet Edu, Pixlr, TeleStory, Toontastic (now that it's 100% free), and Purpose Games. You can download the infographic as a PDF by clicking the image below. Web links and app names are hyperlinked within the PDF for one-click access to the apps and resources."

MapMap - open source video mapping software - 1 views

  •
"MapMap is a free, open source software for projection mapping aimed at artists and small teams. Its intuitive interface facilitates learning and promotes artistic expression. This software is available on Windows, OSX, and Linux. MapMap gives users the ability to projection map on any surface of choice. Mapmap takes media sources and gives users the ability to manipulate the media into different positions and shapes. Media sources can come from any various accepted media formats. With an easy to understand interface, new users can get started in minutes. Projection mapping, also known as video mapping and spatial augmented reality, is a projection technology used to turn objects, often irregularly shaped, into a display surface for video projection. These objects may be complex industrial landscapes, such as buildings. By using specialized software, a two or three dimensional object is spatially mapped on the virtual program which mimics the real environment it is to be projected on. The software can interact with a projector to fit any desired image onto the surface of that object. This technique is used by artists and advertisers alike who can add extra dimensions, optical illusions, and notions of movement onto previously static objects. The video is commonly combined with, or triggered by, audio to create an audio-visual narrative."

Educated Hope in Dark Times: The Challenge of the Educator-Artist as a Public Intellectual - 0 views

  •
"... Reclaiming pedagogy as a form of educated and militant hope begins with the crucial recognition that education is not solely about job training and the production of ethically challenged entrepreneurial subjects and that artistic production does not only have to serve market interests, but are also about matters of civic engagement and literacy, critical thinking, and the capacity for democratic agency, action, and change. It is also inextricably connected to the related issues of power, inclusion, and social responsibility.[2] If young people, artists, and other cultural workers are to develop a deep respect for others, a keen sense of the common good, as well as an informed notion of community engagement, pedagogy must be viewed as a cultural, political, and moral force that provides the knowledge, values, and social relations to make such democratic practices possible. In this instance, pedagogy needs to be rigorous, self-reflective, and committed not to the dead zone of instrumental rationality but to the practice of freedom and liberation for the most vulnerable and oppressed, to a critical sensibility capable of advancing the parameters of knowledge, addressing crucial social issues, and connecting private troubles into public issues. Any viable notion of critical pedagogy must overcome the image of education as purely instrumental, as dead zones of the imagination, and sites of oppressive discipline and imposed conformity. ..."
