Despite the widespread popularity of online social networking services such as Facebook and Twitter, many students exhibit a reluctance to include faculty in their social networks. Given these personal preferences, how do social networks and education intersect? A pilot using Twitter to communicate important information about lab hours and support services yielded minimal student response.

Blended learning course design entails more than simply converting content for online delivery or finding ways to supplement an existing face-to-face course. Ideally, designing a blended course would begin with identifying learning outcomes and topics, creating assignments and activities, determining how interaction will occur, and selecting the technologies to best achieve those learning outcomes.

While considering quality and blended learning, take a moment to review this expanded definition of hybridity. It goes beyond whether learning occurs in the classroom or online and assumes that we consider online learning in the class and physical presence online. This article includes many other ways we blend in education.

This isn't exactly a blended learning course but it includes a lot of resources if you are getting students to do self directed multimedia courses as part of blended learning design. I also really like the curriculum design/progression. It is an advanced composition course that engages students in a comprehensive exploration of contemporary rhetoric, creative inquiry, design thinking, media authorship, self-reflection, and social engagement. Directed writings in concert with video production projects allow students to experience an integrated process of thinking, creating, and problem-solving.

Most interesting strategies for archiving student work. Great learning objectives as well. Interesting way to present them. This is also an excellent example of how a tertiary educator can integrate information from the web straight into their course work. AND how universities can tap into the wonderful and expert learning tools created commercially (e.g. lynda.com) Thanks.

In the BlendKit2014 Week 01 Webinar, there was a reference to 'backwards planning'. This idea comes from Dee Fink. This article by Fink is a helpful primer on this work.

This presentation from Donna Ziegenfuss of the University of Utah's Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence demonstrates a model and process used in a graduate-level online course based on Dee Fink's approach to 'backwards planning".

This paper proposes a new model of blended learning in which physical teaching environments give way to time. Time and synchronicity become the primary elements of the learning environments. In addition, the authors suggest that the time-based model as an educational "new normal" results in technologies as enablers rather than disruptors of learning continuity.

This is quite informal and general, but the good thing is that they are only infographics and you can read the information quite quickly. I use it as a first contact or introduction to a point/a theme.

G. Conole, et al. (2004) provide an interesting perspective on how technology tools might be mapped against your learning intent. I recommend this strategy when deciding how to blend.
