Blog | Chikmeat - Indian vs American chicken fry traditional recipes - 0 views

  •
Fried chicken is a staple American food and is quickly gaining popularity around the world. These crispy yet succulent pieces of chicken are made in various countries with their own little twist added to them. The Indian version of chicken fry, for example, has India's signature spices added to the marinade and is spicier than its American counterpart. The style of cooking the chicken and the ingredients used also vary greatly between the two places. This gives the dishes, though same in name, distinctly different tastes. Check out the simple recipes for both the Indian and the American chicken fry below. Try the recipes from both the regions to try something new and find out which one is more to your taste. Indian Recipe The ingredients of the Indian version of fried chicken include: 1 kg chicken cut into pieces Oil for deep frying For the marinade: ½ a cup of mustard oil 2 tablespoons of gram flour 2 tablespoons of vinegar ½ a teaspoon each of ginger paste and garlic paste 2 teaspoons of chilli powder 1 teaspoon each of roasted and powdered cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds 5 powdered and roasted cloves and peppercorns 2 powdered and roasted black cardamoms Once you have all the ingredients we begin cooking the fried chicken: First, mix all the ingredients meant for the marinade in a big mixing bowl. Prick the pieces of the chicken in a few places and add them to the marinade. Turn the whole mixture with your hand to ensure that the marinade is coating all the pieces evenly. Leave the pieces to marinate for 3-4 hours. Once the chicken has marinated, heat the oil for frying in a pan and add the pieces of chicken to it. Deep fry them over a medium flame till they are a rich golden brown and the chicken feels tender. This should take 15-20 minutes. Turn off the heat and garnish with coriander. Your dish is ready to be served. American Recipe The traditional Southern fried chicken recipe has the following ingredients: 1 whole chicken that has

Modular kitchen is a popular trend of recent times. The "kitchen area" was between the entrance and the fireplace. The kitchens were divided based on the types of food prepared in them. This type of stove remained in use for centuries to come, with only minor modifications. Most of the new home buyers going for a modular kitchen. Tuscan Tomato, Cucumber & Bread Salad - 0 views

  • Tuscan Tomato, Cucumber & Bread Salad
  • “Panzanella, little swamp, is another tomato favorite, a salad of oil, vinegar, tomatoes, basil, cucumber, minced onion, and stale bread soaked in water and squeezed dry - a true invention from necessity. Since bread must be bought every day, Tuscan cooking makes good use of leftovers.” Nothing could be easier. I used 3 small tomatoes cut up in small bites, half a cucumber also cut up into small bites, minced onion, fresh local basil, 8 slices of leftover hard baguette seasoned with salt and pepper. Like many Tuscan cooks, I added the olive oil and vinegar by eye but you should know the typical ratio is 3 parts oil to 1 part vinegar. The bread was soaked in water and squeezed as dry as possible. At first I didn’t think it would taste very good but after dressing the salad and letting it sit for a while, the bread gave the salad a wonderful texture and absorbed some of the seasoning with the juices from the vegetables. It was amazing.  And it went great with a chilled bottle of Prosecco!

Chargrilled sweet and sour prawns - 0 views

  • 6 large prawns, butterflied, shells on, but heads removedpinch sea salt drizzle vegetable oillarge handful fresh coriander1 lime, juice onlyFor the sweet and sour sauce4-5 tbsp white wine vinegar3-4 tbsp caster sugar4cm/1in piece fresh ginger, unpeeled1 mild red chilli, finely choppedMethod1. To butterfly the prawns, first remove the head by twisting it off, then discard. Don't remove the shell. Place the prawn on its back on a cutting board. Using a small, sharp knife, cut through the centre of the body from below the head down to the tail. Don't cut all the way through the flesh. Repeat with the remaining prawns.2. For the sweet and sour sauce, pour the vinegar into a small pan (not aluminium) over a medium heat. Add the sugar and heat through.3. Slice the ginger into thick slices and add to the sauce in the pan.4. Slice the chilli and add to the pan. Simmer the sauce until the sugar is dissolved and the sauce is reduced and sticky - about five minutes. Taste and adjust flavour as needed by adding a touch more sugar or vinegar, as necessary.5. Meanwhile, heat a ridged grill pan until hot. Sprinkle the sea salt over the prepared prawns. Pour over the oil, then rub it into the prawns.6. Place the prawns on the hot grill pan and grill until cooked through and slightly charred (this will take about 2-3 minutes). Press down lightly with tongs to ensure even cooking. Turn the prawns over and cook for another 2-3 minutes on the other side.7. Chop the fresh coriander. When the prawns are cooked, transfer them into the pan with the reduced sauce.8. Add the coriander and a squeeze of fresh lime juice to the pan.9. Stir together until the prawns are coated in the sauce. Serve straightaway.

Today's Kool Idea: Fuller Brush Foaming Garbage Disposal Cleaner - 0 views

  •
Periodically, areas in The Daily Kool home fall victim to the chaos of a busy life filled with activity, children and pets. Okay, are you ready? We confess that sometimes, we are just too busy (or too tired) to clean. There, it's out. Whew! Don't get us wrong...it's not we spend our time living in squalor. But, at some point, just about every room of our house has seen a period of what we consider unmitigated disaster...except, the kitchen. We are absolutely fastidious when it comes to the appearance of our kitchen...this is our domain, the room held in highest regard. We keep every crevice absolutely pristine, so imagine our surprise, when we realized we were missing the boat with our garbage disposal. Our garbage disposal is like any other...it's a magnet for dirty, greasy build-up and offensive odor. Sure, we'd been using the Plink garbage disposal cleaner and deodorizer tablets every few days, but we really weren't getting down into the nitty gritty of our disposal's grossness. Plink smells great, but its effects are very short lived...plus, it seems to be more of a deodorizer than a cleaner. We've tried it all...baking soda w/vinegar, ice, even citrus peel...all okay, but not exceptional. We really use our garbage disposal a lot, so it was definitely time for a more effective solution. Enter the Fuller Brush foaming garbage disposal cleaner.

Grated Carrots and Beets - 0 views

  • Carottes et Betteraves Râpées - 450 grams (1 pound) carrots - 450 grams (1 pound) uncooked beetroots (get small, young ones, with smooth skin and firm flesh) - 2 cloves garlic, pressed or finely minced, or 1 teaspoon garlic paste - 1 tablespoon hazelnut oil (or walnut, or squash seed, or olive oil) - 1 tablespoon honey vinegar (or cider or balsamic vinegar) - 1 teaspoon strong Dijon mustard - Tabasco sauce or poblano pepper flakes, to taste - Smoked salt (or regular sea salt, or gomasio, or zaatar) - Freshly ground black pepper Optional add-ins: - Leafy fresh herbs (cilantro, chervil, flat-leaf parsley), chopped - Toasted nuts (almonds, pine nuts, cashews, peanuts) or seeds (sesame, sunflower seeds), or better yet, my new friend the dukkah - Shaved parmesan or cubed feta cheese or crumbled blue cheese - Mâche or baby spinach leaves - A grated apple or shallot - Any dried herb, spice, or spice mix you think might work (and you know there's only one way to find out) Serves 4 to 6. Trim, peel, and grate the carrots and beets. (If you own a food processor with a grater attachment, yay for you!) Place the rest of the main ingredients, from garlic to black pepper, in a large salad bowl, add the grated carrots and beets, and toss until well combined. Add any desired add-ins and toss again. Taste, adjust the seasoning, and let stand for 30 minutes, if you can, before serving: the beets and carrots will render juices that will make the salad moister. If you don't have that kind of time and the salad does not feel quite moist enough, add a dash of citrus juice, tomato juice, or any sort of juice that may currently reside in the refrigerator door.
