"Twiplomacy is the first-ever global study of world leaders on Twitter. The governments of almost two-thirds of the 193 UN member countries have a presence on Twitter: 45% of the 264 accounts analysed are personal accounts of heads of state and government, but just 30 world leaders tweet themselves and very few on a regular basis."

Why schools must move beyond 'one-to-one computing'
Ed-tech consultant Alan November recommends using perspective and a new term instead: One to the World"
This is a great looking picture survey creator that can be embedded on to a site. Add a question, choose your images and share the link. The free account allows up to 100 responses.
Facebook, like many communication services and social media sites, uses its Terms of Service (ToS) to forbid children under the age of 13 from creating an account. Such prohibitions are not uncommon in response to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which seeks to empower parents by requiring commercial Web site operators to obtain parental consent before collecting data from children under 13.
This is a MUST TRY site. It's not often that I'm amazed be an educational resource, but I am with this one. Pora Ora is a stunning educational virtual world for Primary school aged students. Play truely fun educational games which practise skills in English, maths and many other subjects. The graphics and useably is superb. Online safety is at the heart of this site. The parential admin account can set the student's account to free chat with everyone to completely locked down where they have the world to themselves and everything in between. The site has a language filter and users can report any incidents of trouble. Also, the first task requires the user to complete an online safety task. The site is free with a few premium features coming out later. You have got to try this one! http://ictmagic.wikispaces.com/ICT+%26+Web+Tools
"Microsoft SkyDrive has been around for a while, but was recently given a fairly significant update. We took some time to talk to Microsoft about the new features and play with it all, so here's a breakdown of what you can expect.
You'll need a Windows Live account to start making full use of SkyDrive. For those too lazy to read - there's 25gb of storage, web-based versions of popular Office apps; collaborative editing that doesn't require everyone to login; and an iPhone app you should probably avoid for now."
"Pinterest's members are solely responsible for what they pin and repin. They must have explicit permission from the owner to post everything."
What's more, Pinterest places all blame and potential legal fees on its users. It writes:
"You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold Cold Brew Labs, its officers, directors, employees and agents, harmless from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including, without limitation, reasonable legal and accounting fees, arising out of or in any way connected with (i) your access to or use of the Site, Application, Services or Site Content, (ii) your Member Content, or (iii) your violation of these Terms."
Basically, if a photographer sues you for pinning an image illegally on Pinterest, the user must not only pay for his or her lawyer, they must also pay for Pinterest's lawyer. In addition, the defendant must pay all charges against him or herself, along with all of Pinterest's charges.
Kirsten likens Pinterest to Napster as an enabler of illegal activity. It wasn't just Napster that went down -- 12 year old girls who downloaded music were sued too.

Socrative makes a web, iPhone and Android app that functions as a clicker system. After a teacher sets up an account, he or she receives a classroom number to give students. They simply enter the number in their phones or on a laptop and are ready to answer multiple choice questions, write short answers and compete in team challenges.
"They don't have to create a user name and a password, it doesn't have to be approved by an administrator, it doesn't have to go through the school, we didn't have to spend 45 minutes setting it up. … I get an excel sheet that I know what to do with," she says.

"Keep that status update to yourself.
That's the advice teachers are being given as the education system grapples with the expanding use of social media by students.
Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation has been conducting workshops with high school teachers in Algoma in recent months after the Ontario College of Teachers issued an advisory that teachers should keep their distance from students when it comes to Facebook, Twitter and other electronic communication."
With twitter it would be worth encouraging teachers wanting to use it with students to keep one that is private/professional pln related and create different accounts for their classrooms using alternative emails.
I don't disagree when it comes to Facebook pages and accounts made with school in mind but there should be a line between personal Facebook use and public. Facebook lists could be a way of getting around this or even Google Plus circles.
